<strong>April</strong> 7 th -8 th - The McDonald’s Houston Children’s Festival is the largest<br />

children’s festival in the United States. Two days of games, circus acts, rides,<br />

food, beverages and entertainment for all ages centered in Downtown<br />

Houston. Created 29 years ago by Child Advocates as an avenue to create<br />

awareness and funding to help the neglected and abused children of<br />

Houston. Over 5.4 million dollars have been raised for the organization<br />

through the annual two days of children activities. Come celebrate, enjoy,<br />

laugh and play at the 30 th Annual McDonald’s Houston Children’s Festival<br />

in-water Boat Show in the Southwest and the premier Sail and Power<br />

<strong>April</strong> 14 th - It’s that time again! Don’t miss the Annual Art Car Parade.<br />

Downtown Houston will come to life when more than 250 “motoriffic”<br />

mobile masterpieces hit the pavement. The Houston Art Car Parade is a free<br />

BYOG (bring your own goodies - lawn chairs, water, treats, no dogs please)<br />

event. The Parade has become a nationwide phenomenon and continues<br />

to bring out the artist in everyone. This year’s spectacle is expected to draw<br />

a crowd of 250,000 fans from across the map and approximately 250 local,<br />

national and international artists will transform everyday automobiles into<br />

one-of-a-kind creations meant to amuse, inspire, enlighten and entertain.<br />

<strong>April</strong> 14 th -15 th - Japan Festival Houston celebrates the rich cultural<br />

heritage of Japan with traditional and contemporary performances<br />

food, as well as demonstrations and displays of Ikebana flower<br />

arrangement, tea ceremony, origami, etegami, bonsai and more. The<br />

<strong>April</strong> 15 th - Houston Barbecue Festival. The venue has changed but<br />

the game’s the same, smoked meat until you drop. After several years at<br />

NRG Park, the Houston Barbecue Festival is moving its <strong>2018</strong> smoke-out<br />

to Humble. According to the organizers, the new location, 20 minutes<br />

north of downtown on U.S. 59, offers additional amenities including<br />

free parking, restrooms, covered areas in case of inclement weather and<br />

more affordable drinks. The Houston Barbecue Festival partners are Saint<br />

Arnold Brewing Company and Pitts & Spitts. The festival also will feature<br />

live music and a bar with craft beer. The festival sells out each year and<br />

ticket sales are limited. No tickets will be sold at the gate. The Humble<br />

<strong>April</strong> 21 st -22 nd - The Houston Texans and Texas Children’s Hospital, in<br />

partnership with the nonprofit organization Kids Triathlon, Inc., have<br />

partnered to bring you the <strong>2018</strong> Houston Texans Kids Triathlon presented by<br />

Texas Children’s Hospital. This sixth annual event will be held at NRG Stadium<br />

and is expected to be the largest USATriathlon sanctioned kid’s triathlon in the<br />

world. Thousands of families will gather for the interactive triathlon expo and<br />

Preparedness Kit Chef’s Challenge. Celebrity chefs will compete on-site<br />

to create the best dish from non-perishable food items typically found in<br />

a disaster preparedness kit. Each chef will choose from a list of canned<br />

and shelf-stable ingredients. Media judges will select and award one<br />

winner based on taste, creativity and presentation. In addition to the<br />

cook-off, there will be emergency response equipment on display, disaster<br />
