MAILBOX TAMPERING<br />

When a mailbox is put into use for the purposes of sending and receiving<br />

mail, it becomes federal property.<br />

Mailbox tampering is considered any act that interferes with another<br />

person’s letter box or other receptacle. This can include:<br />

• destruction of the mailbox itself<br />

• theft of mailbox contents<br />

• the placement of items in a mail receptacle by persons<br />

other than postal employees<br />

• any action intended to obstruct or damage mail or mailbox property<br />

In short, anyone, other than mail recipients and postal employees,<br />

should NOT touch a mailbox or its contents.<br />

RECREATION CARDS<br />

Bear Creek Plantation residents will now be able to apply for a recreation<br />

card online at www.bcpcai.com through the community website.<br />

Our new application can be found, once logged in, under eforms. We<br />

will still accept applications which are emailed, mailed or faxed; they<br />

can be found on the website under documents.<br />

ATTENTION RESIDENT-BUSINESS OWNERS<br />

Do you have a professional service or product that the Homeowners’<br />

Association can utilize for community improvements? If so, please let<br />

us know what you have to offer and we will do our best to use your<br />

business for future improvements to our neighborhood when needed.<br />

We would rather the money from the annual dues go to benefit our<br />

own neighbors when possible, rather than using an outside business<br />

or vendor. We’ll also be happy to publicize your business on our community<br />

Facebook page.<br />

BE AWARE OF THEFT POTENTIAL<br />

Many of us have a habit of leaving the garage door open when we are<br />

working or relaxing in the backyard. Unfortunately, people in virtually<br />

every neighborhood lose property to opportunistic thieves this way<br />

every year. Bicycles and power tools are just a few of the commonly<br />

stolen things and keep in mind that it only takes a matter of seconds<br />

for something of significant value to “walk away.” Please keep those<br />

doors down when you are not in eyesight of the garage.<br />

BARKING DOGS<br />

While it is true that dogs are born to bark, they were not born to bark<br />

all day and night, driving your neighbors crazy. If you have a dog that<br />

must stay outside, please do what you can to limit the disturbance to<br />

your neighbors. You can find loads of information about how to control<br />

it at www.barkingdogs.net.<br />

If you are one of the neighbors suffering from the seemingly endless<br />

noise of a neighbor’s barking dog, we hope that you will be able to<br />

speak with the owner about it. In many cases, the neighbor is unaware<br />

of the situation because, for one reason, they are away during the day.<br />

If the owner is unwilling or unable to do anything about it, you can call<br />

animal control at 281-999-3191 and have them do a check on the dog<br />

for possible neglect and abuse. (They won’t always come out for the<br />

barking alone.) The Sheriff’s Dept generally cannot do anything about<br />

it and they encourage you to call animal control as well. You can also<br />

find more information about the situation by looking on the website<br />

listed above.<br />

Ideally, the neighbors will be able to work out something mutually<br />

agreeable for everyone and every dog.<br />

SCOOP YOUR PET’S POOP<br />

Please remember to be respectful of your neighbors’ yards and<br />

the community grounds. When you take your pet for a walk,<br />

come prepared with a scooper and a recycled grocery bag or<br />

anything else. If your pet poops during your walk, please scoop<br />

and trash. It may not be the most fabulous way to walk your pet,<br />

but it does show that you respect your fellow neighbors’ and our<br />

beautiful community.<br />

HARRIS COUNTY LEASH LAW<br />

Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all<br />

our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an<br />

animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for<br />

that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become<br />

frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to<br />

avoid the animal.<br />

Harris County Animal Control advises, “All dogs and cats must be<br />

kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris<br />

County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized<br />

to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat, nor to allow<br />

any dog or cat to become a stray.”<br />
