4 East Bay Claims Association News Network • April 2018 Bingo Bonding & Moving Forward! April, 2018 President’s Message By Jennifer Pinney, 2018 EBCA President Well, it’s back to reality. I just got back from the most amazing 10 day vacation with my mom. Hawaii could not have been any better to us. Between the Polynesian dinner cruise with fireworks, snorkeling with the turtles, visiting the dole plantation and Mighty Mo (battleship Missouri at Pearl Harbor), and having 2018 EBCA President Jennifer Pinney a full spa day, we spent our time shopping, going to the beach, and enjoyed the local cuisine. Only downfall is I’m pretty sure my sunburn got a sunburn lol. Sad to be back, but so happy to see my babies. Who needs a B2? I don’t know about you, but I had an absolute blast at our 1st annual bingo extravaganza last month. Thank you to all who came out and made even more fun! It’s nice to sometimes have a low key fun filled luncheon. If there are other fun things and or events you would like to see EBCA do, please feel free to reach out to me with your ideas. Our golf committee it hitting the pavement planning our golf tournament. Who doesn’t love the 80’s?! That is our theme this year so make sure you come dressed to impress! Our next luncheon is Wednesday April 11th at 11:30. Vinh Pham with Envirocheck will be speaking on Asbestos Contamination. East Bay Claims Association News Network • April 2018 5 Getting To Know Your EBCA Leaders Gemma was born and raised, along with her younger sister, in England. Her father's job moved them to the United States, landing in San Ramon, California when she was twelve years old. She adapted quickly, and went on to graduate from California High School in San Ramon, and attended Las Positas Jr College, in Livermore. Gemma developed some great skills and knowledge working for a Title Company for about eight years before the great recession hit. In 2008, she took a job with Paul Davis Restoration of the East Bay that same year. She has grown with the company, now Paul Davis Restoration & Remodeling of East Bay & Greater Sacramento, serving the company in Business Development. Gemma married her best friend, Justin, that same year. They met in High School, and have now been together for 17 years. Paul Davis Restoration is a Property Mitigation and Claims Restoration firm. Gemma's territory includes clients throughout the East Bay, San Francisco as well as the Sacramento area. The company, now headquartered at 2200 Central Street, Richmond, CA 94801, recently moved from their previous location in Rodeo. Gemma first became involved in a big way with East Bay Claims Association when she joined the board of directors in 2011, under the presidency of now retired JoAnn Dean. Gemma’s impact on the organization grew the following year, as she took on an Officer’s Role for EBCA, becoming Secretary, serving Gemma Houser - Setting a new standard for EBCA Leadership Leadership Profile by Lynna Harrison, with Bryan Harrison Organizational leaders come in many stripes. Some leaders manage to change the course or direction for a particular group. Gemma Houser, your East Bay Claims Association Immediate Past President, definitely set a new standard in that regard. during the two-year presidency of previous Association Secretary, Jodi DeVillier, now also retired. Ms. Houser stepped to the role of Vice President for 2014 and 2015, before taking what she expressed as a huge leap for her, becoming President in 2016. As President, she was able to move the association in positive directions, bringing a bit of a new spirit to the position. By 2017, EBCA began seeing a resurgence of activity, with new and younger members becoming involved, and a new wave of claims professionals turning out for regular meetings. “I consider having been President of East Bay Claims Association for the years 2016 and 2017 one of my biggest life accomplishments to date,” she said. “She did a great job of setting the table for me,” stated 2018 incoming President, Jennifer Pinney. Ms. Pinney went on to explain that she would not have felt at all comfortable taking on what may be seen as a daunting responsibility had Gemma not made it look so natural, even fun. Gemma continues her committed involvement with East Bay Claims and, as Immediate Past President, is enjoying being back amongst the crowd for meetings. She remains active on the board, and as well as a dedicated member. Justin and Gemma are the proud parents of two wonderful little girls; Jordyn - age 8, and Taylor - age five.
