Annual Report for the year of our Lord 2017 Luncheon Club Luncheon Club continues to meet every Wednesday morning. We now have 36 members and a waiting list of 8. We had a few people stop coming owing to illness but have returned which put our numbers over the 30 limit. We have had some lovely meetings during the year starting with St David's Day when we decorated the tables with daffs., leeks, flags and little Welsh dolls. We have also had lots of "special" birthdays when the members brought in some lovely cakes and wine. We have had two coffee mornings one in May and the other in November. Both were very well attended and also supported by members of the Church. During June we had our first trip to Pembrokeshire where we had a carvery meal at the Bush Inn and then a trip on the Gwilli Steam Railway. Our second trip was to Barry Island where we had a meal at a local restaurant and then a visit to a garden centre. We finished the year with our annual Christmas meal where the Dunvant Rugby Club Male Voice Choir waited at the tables and then sang carols which everybody enjoyed. We are also grateful to the Community Association and the Choir for their donations towards the Christmas Lunch. Teressa Garner, Secretary Evening Bowls Club We meet most Friday evenings in the year, between 7-10pm in the Parish Centre, and at the present time we have a full membership, ( March 2018 ). This is due to the constraints of having only two 'short mat' bowls mats. Since the birth of our club in the mid nineties we have enjoyed a good social life and trips to local eating places, and summer barbecues at Cos and Gill's home in Three Crosses, and a party every time a member celebrates a birthday / anniversary ......... as well as finding some time to bowl! Indeed, in between taking turns at bowling, lots of conversations take place ....... we may change our name to:- .......... Bowls and debating Society!! Annual Report for the year of our Lord 2017 Music Society The activities for 2017 began in January with the Annual Dinner at the Toby Restaurant when twenty-plus members enjoyed the usual "Toby" Fayre followed by a Music Quiz arranged by our chairperson Barbara. In February we held our A.G.M. when the programme for the year was distributed, officers were elected and the Balance Sheet for year ending 31.12. 16 was presented which showed a healthy balance. In February we were entertained by Anthony Hughes. This talented gentleman sang and also played the guitar and the ukelele, as well as regaling us with musical anecdotes of his life. The April meeting was cancelled as it clashed with Holy Week! The May meeting was a complete change from our usual programme when the Proudfoots, Jan and Jim, brought along their Scottish Country Dancing Troupe, and as well as entertaining show-dancing, members were invited to join in a few of the dances - a very entertaining and fulfilling evening. Mr Howard Mortimaire joined us for his annual appearance in June and this year spoke about the famous Welsh Musician and composer Dr. Joseph Parry. This was a fascinating evening as hardly anyone was aware of what this extraordinary musician had accomplished in his life!! After the usual August break we welcomed the Rev. Clive Williams for his annual visit. He gave an interesting and fascinating talk about Guissepe Verdi, which he illustrated by playing some of the composer‘s works on the piano. The "Ariosa Singers", a group of comparatively younger musicians, with their conductor, Mrs Penny Ryan, and husband Mr Les Ryan as accompanist, gave us some beautiful compositions as choir and soloists. One of the young female soloists, Erin Jones, who greatly impressed the members, has since been awarded a scholarship to study music!! The November programme was entitled, 'The Williams Family Entertains". What an evening!! Mum and Dad - Jane and Adrian; and offspring Bethan and Rhys, accompanied by Mrs Hazel Tomalin, gave us a wonderful evening of singing and violin playing by this musical family!! We thought the November meeting would not be equalled but we didn’t know what talent we were going to witness from the private pupils of our two church organists -Lynne Novis and Chris Samuel. The large assortment of wind instruments played by the young people was amazing! Even the audience took part when Lynne, a school teacher, had brought along enough percussion instruments for us all to join in! Our December meeting was A FESTIVE OCCASION HEARTILY ENJOYED BY ALL!!!
