The Houston-based company had so much interest in opening a shop in Lockport that it took a somewhat unusual approach to its expansion. “We’re doing this with a little bit more risk on our part, because we don’t currently have our franchise owner in tow,” said Josh Wall, chief development officer at Christian Brothers Automotive. “We liked Lockport so much, certainly how it’s been developing economically over the last five to six years... We really felt like we had to find the best place in Lockport to come to the market.” Christian Brothers, which provides a variety of professional auto-care services, including upkeep, maintenance, and repair, is in the process of breaking into the Chicagoland market by opening six stores in the area. The plan is for the Lockport store, which is to be located on E. 159th Street, to be the southernmost location in the Chicago area. “As we dug deeper and deeper, Lockport quickly made a short list of markets that we wanted to bring Christian Brothers to,” Wall said. The Lockport store, which Wall hopes will be open sometime in early to mid- 2019, does not currently have a franchisee, which is a relatively new approach for the company, according to Wall. “It is a little rarer,” he said. “We’ve been franchising for 22 years and most of that time we’ve always gone into a market with a franchisee already selected and already committed to that city.” The search for a franchisee for the Lockport location is ongoing, and anyone interested in applying can do so at www.christianbrothers franchise.com. The process to become a Christian Brothers Automotive franchisee involves a multi-step interview which includes the candidate traveling to Houston and spending a few days operating one of the stores there. It’s an in-depth process that takes about three months altogether, Wall said. “We get to know their strengths, their weaknesses, their goals, their ambitions, their heart for people, how well they want to really serve people, which is a tremendous requirement of our franchising process,” he said. Getting to know the true personal values of potential franchisees is crucial for Christian Brothers, because the brand relies heavily on its motto of “Love your neighbor as yourself.” And as the 35-year-old brand has grown and expanded to 170 locations in 25 states, it has been vital that every store reflects that motto of faith and honesty. “Throughout that entire time we’ve been growing, it’s been incredibly important that we don’t get away from our core values,” Wall said. “We want to ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’ We believe regardless of someone’s background — their race, color or creed — that’s a unifying concept that people want to love their neighbor as themself.” The company hopes to find a franchisee for the Lockport location sometime in the next six months or so, according to Wall, who predicts Lockport residents will appreciate the integrity of Christian Brothers. “I would anticipate this store right there on that center corridor on 159th [Street] being a great place where customers know they’re going to be treated exceptionally well and they’re going to know that we’re only going to recommend services that the car actually needs,” he said.
