Winnetka named
Tree City USA

For the 25th year, the
Forestry Division of the
Winnetka Public Works
Department is proud to announce
that Winnetka has
been named a 2017 Tree
City USA by the Arbor
Day Foundation, for the
Village’s commitment to
effective urban forest management.
Tree City USA communities
are recognized for
meeting four requirements
set by the Arbor Day Foundation
that reflect a strong
commitment to maintaining
the urban tree-scape,
including having a tree
board or department, a treecare
ordinance, a minimum
$2 per capita annual community
forestry budget, and
an Arbor Day observance
and proclamation.
“Tree City USA communities
see the impact an
urban forest has in a community
first hand,” said
Dan Lambe, president of
the Arbor Day Foundation.
“Additionally, recognition
brings residents together
and creates a sense of community
pride, whether it’s
through volunteer engagement
or public education.”
The Village of Winnetka
takes pride in this recognition
of their forestry efforts.

The Winnetka Club names new executive director

Last month, the Board
of Directors of The Winnetka
Club announced
that longtime Winnetka
resident and civic leader
Patti Van Cleave has been
appointed as the organization’s
newest executive
director.
Van Cleave, who has
been an active volunteer
in Winnetka for more than
30 years, retired last year
as the executive director
of the Winnetka Historical
Society.
“I am pleased to have
the opportunity to lead
an organization that has
been an integral part of
our community for 110
years,” she said. “The
Winnetka Club is poised
to grow with its new home
in the Winnetka Community
House. It’s an exciting
time to join their committed
members.”
Meg Graham, president
of The Winnetka
Club, said the organization
is excited to have Van
Cleave on board.
“We are thrilled to have
Patti’s experience, expertise,
charisma and connections
to help us fulfill
our service-focused mission
and vision,” Graham
said. “We serve the greater
North Shore by creating
civic opportunities in
our neighborhoods, improving
our community,
honoring our local heroes
and donating proceeds to
charitable organizations
in the greater North Shore
area.”
