The story goes that it was late in the Christmas season and The Salvation Army’s William Booth was running out of time to distribute a holiday greeting that would inspire and refresh his troops stationed literally around the world. Time was short. Resources were thin. Telegraph messages were charged by the letter. But Booth was brilliant. The Founder and first General of The Salvation Army telegraphed a single word to officers scattered far and wide: Others. @SalArmyTulsa
A MESSAGE FROM OUR LEADERSHIP Captains Ken and Jessie Chapman Dear Friends and Supporters, Almost two years ago we moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to begin our appointment as Area Commanders of the Tulsa Area Command. It has been a rewarding time of faith, humility, inspiration and gratefulness in this amazing community of friendly and generous people. The Salvation Army has been serving Tulsa since 1906. Over the past 112 years, tens of thousands of lives have been touched, transformed, and renewed by the mission of this glorious Army. The Salvation Army is the largest army in the world, with 1.5 million soldiers serving in 128 countries. And, Tulsa is a thriving community for mission! We are in the process of bringing great improvements to the Captains Ken and Jessie Chapman programs of our six Boys & Girls Clubs. Over 18,000 people are affected by the work of these clubs each year and you will see some remarkable developments taking place in the coming months. Our Center of Hope is built for 160 beds, yet between 300-325 people are housed each night of the year, of which, 50 to 60 are children. That Center never closes and basic human needs are met daily. Our Pathway of Hope social services initiative will break generational cycles of poverty and restore dignity and hope to many who cannot do it by themselves. When natural disasters strike, you can count on us to be one of the first on the scene to bring relief and spiritual and emotional care. We are passionate about bringing hope to the hopeless, a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves, and direction to those who have lost their way. We are compelled by the love of Christ and want to demonstrate His love, mercy, and compassion in practical ways. We thank God for this incredible opportunity to serve in this unique community called TULSA. Exciting things are happening and the days ahead are full of promise. We ask you to consider sharing your time, talent, and treasure as you are able to make a positive difference in this community we now call home.
