Sun Flyer 2 Made Maiden Flight<br />
On April 10th, Sun Flyer2 two-seat electric airplane, developed<br />
by the American company Aerospace since 2<strong>01</strong>4, successfully<br />
took off for the first time in Colorado. The planes<br />
energy storage system was provided by California-based<br />
Energy Power Systems, and includes battery modules, a<br />
battery management unit, and power distribution unit. The<br />
battery cells are LG Chem “MJ1” lithium-ion battery cells<br />
with a 260-watt-hour-per-kilogram energy density. The company<br />
is undergoing the FAA certification of Sun Flyer 2<br />
which is aimed at the <strong>flight</strong> training market. Another prototype<br />
the four-seat Sun Flyer 4 is also under development targeting<br />
the pilot-owner market segment.<br />
Eviation Selected Kokam For Battery Supply<br />
In February the Israeli electric airplane<br />
startup Eviation signed a contract<br />
worth of one millions USD with British<br />
company Kokam for battery supply for<br />
Eviation’s commuter prototype. The<br />
prototype will have one propeller on<br />
each wingtip and one thrust propeller<br />
at the tail for the best efficiency. The<br />
prototype is designed for commuting<br />
purpose to accommodate 9 passengers,<br />
to cruise at 240 knots and to fly<br />
1000km on one charge. Eviation plans<br />
to complete the prototype by the end<br />
of 2<strong>01</strong>8.<br />
