with Tara Maher
Tara Maher is a senior
swimmer and water polo
player for Sandburg. She
plans on continuing her
academic career at Moraine
Valley Community College
in the fall.
How did you get
involved in water polo?
After swimming season
freshman year, I got involved
with preseason water
polo.
What is your proudest
moment in the sport?
My proudest moment is
beating Lincoln Way Central
(in March after trailing by
four goals). I felt my team
come together when we really
needed to and help each
other win the game.
Are there any
embarrassing moments
you had in the sport?
At practice one time, I was
cleaning up and there was a
ball on deck. I was trying
to throw the ball across the
pool to my teammate but I
hit a light on the ceiling and
broke the light. I thought my
coach was going to yell at
me but everyone ended up
just laughing.
So, what goes on that
people don’t see in the
water during a game?
During games, there is a
lot of grabbing, shoving, and
elbowing. A lot of it is on accident.
I don’t like to do it
intentionally unless my opponent
does it first.
Do you have a favorite
pump-up song?
“No Problem” by Chance
the Rapper
Do you have a hero, or
someone you look up
to?
Sarah Dolitsky, she was a
senior when I was a freshman
and taught me so much
about the sport. She is one
of the strongest people that I
know and I think about her
every day.
Is there a movie you
could watch over and
over without getting
bored with it?
“Miracle”. It’s a hockey
movie about the men’s 1980

reminds me that with hard
work, your team can really
achieve anything together
How about a TV show
that you could watch
over and over?
I love “Friends”. I love
everything about it and it always
makes me laugh
