These garments had a wonderful property. He who wore <strong>the</strong>m was both <strong>in</strong>v<strong>in</strong>cible and irresistible.<br />

The beasts and birds of <strong>the</strong> woods fell down before Nimrod as soon as <strong>the</strong>y caught sight of him<br />

arrayed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>m, and he was equally victorious <strong>in</strong> his combats with men. The source of his<br />

unconquerable strength was not known to <strong>the</strong>m. They attributed it to his personal prowess, and<br />

<strong>the</strong>refore <strong>the</strong>y appo<strong>in</strong>ted him k<strong>in</strong>g over <strong>the</strong>mselves"<br />

It was <strong>in</strong> this area that Nimrod was born, and would eventually depart from <strong>the</strong>re to Sh<strong>in</strong>ar to establish<br />

<strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g important “Middle Eastern” Biblical cities (Genesis 10:10): Babel, Erech, Accad, Calneh<br />

These places were located <strong>in</strong> Sh<strong>in</strong>ar, <strong>the</strong> area currently known as Iraq.<br />

Nimrod was often depicted as a mighty warrior, giant and possibly a hunter and subduer of giants as<br />

well. In fact, giants are even said to have helped him build <strong>the</strong> Tower of Babel. An Arabic manuscript<br />

found at Baalbek says:<br />

"After <strong>the</strong> flood, when Nimrod reigned over Lebanon, he sent giants to rebuild <strong>the</strong> fortress of Baalbek,<br />

which was so named <strong>in</strong> honour of Baal, <strong>the</strong> god of <strong>the</strong> Moabites and worshippers of <strong>the</strong> Sun."<br />

Josephus says Nimrod tried to ascribe success not by <strong>the</strong> power of God but my <strong>the</strong> power of human<br />

<strong>in</strong>genuity. In this he was defy<strong>in</strong>g God.<br />

“Now it was Nimrod who excited <strong>the</strong>m to such an affront and contempt of God. He was <strong>the</strong><br />

grandson of Ham, <strong>the</strong> son of Noah, a bold man, and of great strength of hand. He persuaded <strong>the</strong>m not<br />
