Additional Kurveleshi Belt hydrocarbon accumulations that occur in the southern part of Albania include Delvina (condensate) and Finiq-Krane (gas and oil). Commercial oil fields have been discovered in the Pre-Adriatic Depression. Oil fields include the Patos/Marinza/Bubullima/Kolonje complex, the Pekisht/Rasa/Murizi complex- and Kuçova. PETROLEUM GEOCHEMETRY RESULTS and DISCUSSION Many crude oils, oil show extracted liquids, and oil seep samples representative of all major Albanian oils have been selected for geochemical characterization. The samples are identified by their respective well (or outcrop location), field, producing interval, reservoir lithology, geographic/geologic zone and zone belt. Geochemical results will be discussed in the following order: oil characterizations and oil grouping. CRUDE OIL PROPERTIES Bulk crude oil properties, chemical compositions, stable carbon isotopic compositions, and selected isoprenoid and n-paraffin parameters (e.g., Pristane/Phytane, Pristane/nC17, Phytane/nC 18) from whole oil gas chromatograms (GC). Oil characteristics vary broadly for Albania's production oils. API gravities range from 57° API to 10° API (densities from 0.75 to 1.0 g/mL). The current properties reflect the combined effects of the respective source rock kerogen characteristics, source rock thermal maturities at the time of hydrocarbon expulsion, and local bacterial degradation/water washing. BlODEGRADATION The heavy oils and moderately heavy oils from Kreshpani-3 (10.7°API; S=4.9%), Bubullima-42 (12.5°API; S=5.6%), Ferma-30 (18.5°API; S=4.3%), and Rasa-8 (21.1°API; S=3.8%) show no sign of biodegradation, and their moderately high benzene and toluene contents indicate water washing effects are minimal, (whole oil gas chromatograms). A number of oils in Albania contain moderately high concentrations of sulfur. A correlation exists between higher sulfur concentrations and lower API gravities and Figure 3 illustrates Albanian oil data. Biodegradation has affected several oil accumulations in Albania (e.g., from wells Drashovica- 33, Vlora-10 oil show, Ballshi-55, Gorisht-77, Marinza-1850, Vurgu-7, Arza-16, Patos -1449, Kozare-568, Kreshpani-4, Panaja-10, Povelca-lB, and the Kuçova seep) and has probably lowered the API gravities from their intrinsic values; but the respective kerogen chemical compositions remain the principal control of final oil gravities. For heavy, high sulfur, biodegradation causes minimal changes in API gravities and total sulfur contents because the original n-paraffin contents are a low percentage of the crude oil. 140
GROUPING of ALBANIAN OILS Oils from Albanides are grouped on the basis of the geochemical properties, geographical and geological location. According to their properties are divided six families oils and subgroups within them: 1. First family met in the gas fields, appears in the form of condensates, and is immature. Their origin is related to the resinites derived from terrestrial plants. 2. The second family includes oils from Tirana- Ishmi depression, are met from shallow wells. Isotopic ratio is higher and his value fluctuates around -22 0 / 000. 3. The third family, represented by the oil meeting in the southern Ionian area. In this family includes oils from wells; Prishta-14, Vurgu-7 and condensates from Delvina. Characterized by the stable carbon isotopic ratio that fluctuates around -26 0 / 000 and predominate diasterane to sterane (Delvina, Vurgu-7).
