Roughly 1,000 attend
Village’s Earth and Arbor
Day celebration
The Village, Park District
and Northfield Township
Road District held
the annual Earth & Arbor
Day Celebration from 8:30
a.m. to noon on April 21 in
and around Village Green
Park and the West Commuter
Parking Lot. As in
prior years, the event featured
a recycling center,
exhibition, child-friendly
activities, and volunteering.
In total, over 553 vehicles
dropped off items
to be recycled and roughly
1,000 people visited the
exhibition and Go Green
Northbrook’s “Earth Day 4
Kids” event. Additionally,
a number of individuals
and groups, volunteered to
clean up in the community.

The Community Relations
Commission (CRC)
invites all to the 2018 Celebration
of Cultures on Sunday,
May 6, from noon to
4 p.m. at the North Suburban
YMCA (2705 Techny
Road).
This annual event showcases
the diversity of cultures
represented in the
North Shore. The schedule
for this year’s expanded
event includes: Food
Trucks 5411 (Argentinian
empanadas) and Bombay
Wraps (Indian wraps)
opening at noon and serving
food for sale throughout
the event. A special
Korean book faire opening
at noon with a Korean
story time at 12:30 p.m. A
demonstration of the game
of Cricket by the Greater
Chicago Cricket Association
at 1 p.m. A clinic will
also be held for any interested
players. Stations from
across the world offering

Choir, Indian dancer Rucha
Deshpande, and the Bulta
Traditional Korean Ensemble
will start at 1:15 p.m.
A two-hour, free concert
by the Chicago Folklore
Ensemble entitled “Follow
the Butterfly” will begin at
2 p.m.
This concert features
music and storytelling from
nations and regions across
the world including Nigeria,
Thailand, Rajasthan
(India), Appalachia and the
Amazon Rainforest.

K-9 Reading Buddies of the North Shore is a 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization that supplements literacy programs using reading
teams consisting of registered therapy dogs and qualified handlers
to strengthen reading skills while boosting confidence.
