Bird-a-thon is Mass Audubon’s biggest<br />

making sure that everyone can see the<br />

only during the height of migration<br />

in spring (April and May) and fall<br />

over a sand spit to Crowninshield<br />

– to hunt for maritime edibles,<br />

then head back to the mainland to<br />

explore another conservation area for<br />

woodland and wetland edibles. Russ<br />

will share tips on edibility, seasonal<br />

availability, preparation methods, and<br />

guidelines for safe and environmentally<br />

BIRDS AT COGSWELL’S GRANT<br />

The beautiful 165-acre Cogswell’s<br />

Grant offers a variety of habitats that<br />

attract a treasure trove of birds, such<br />

as bobolinks and Baltimore orioles,<br />

which nest in local fields and forests .<br />

Walking through the Grant, we’ll listen<br />

and watch for nesting and migrating<br />

birds. The historic house on the<br />

property will be open to participants<br />

for a brief tour. The member price<br />

applies to members of Mass Audubon<br />

Mass Audubon’s Ipswich River Wildlife<br />

Sanctuary is offering a free bird walk<br />

at Mill Pond Recreation Area in West<br />

Newbury on Tuesday, May 15 from<br />

9:00-11:00 a.m. Join Ipswich River<br />

Wildlife Sanctuary Naturalist Scott<br />

Santino for a walk that will traverse<br />

beautiful wetland, field, and forest<br />

habitats. We’ll search for migrating<br />

birds such as wood-warblers and vireos<br />

in the woodlands, and for nesting birds<br />

such as bobolinks and meadowlarks in<br />

the fields. We’ll also pay close attention<br />

to birdsong as we spend a slow-paced<br />

morning enjoying the nature of<br />

Massachusetts. Bring binoculars if you<br />

have them, or let us know when you<br />

register if you need to borrow a pair.<br />
