Ratchaburi / Suan Phueng<br />
This bordering district <strong>of</strong> Ratchaburi would have fallen<br />
<strong>of</strong>f the travellers’ radar had it not been for a string <strong>of</strong><br />
Mediterranean-themed resorts dotting its mountainous<br />
landscape.<br />
Most are destinations in themselves, complete with a horse<br />
ranch, sheep farm, trickling streams and European gardens.<br />
But securing a room at one <strong>of</strong> these resort farms requires<br />
advance planning, as each has only a limited number <strong>of</strong><br />
rooms and, believe it or not, they fill in very fast.<br />
Ayutthaya<br />
Just a quick train ride or drive from Bangkok Ayutthaya is a<br />
must see Unesco World Heritage site, dotting the landscape<br />
with centuries old temples.<br />
Reminiscent <strong>of</strong> times past, Ayutthaya was once home to the<br />
capitol <strong>of</strong> the ancient Siam kingdom that existed from 1351 to<br />
1767. Try to visit 9 temples in one day for an added boost <strong>of</strong><br />
luck and good fortune.<br />
Kanchanaburi<br />
Kanchanaburi province, located a few hours from Bangkok<br />
<strong>of</strong>fers a plethora <strong>of</strong> activities for Travelers.<br />
Some include a visit to the infamous River Kwai, The World<br />
War memorial museum and cemetery, as well as Hellfire Pass<br />
are major draws for day activities. Be sure to see Erawan falls,<br />
one <strong>of</strong> the largest and most beautiful waterfalls in Thailand. This<br />
province burgeons more and more each year, popular with<br />
local and foreign tourist for its renowned riverside weekends in<br />
floating hotels.<br />
Amphawa Floating Market<br />
An afternoon floating market by the canal near Wat Amphawan<br />
Chetiyaram (parking is available).<br />
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 12am – 8pm, the Amphawa<br />
Canal is occupied by vendors who pack their boats with<br />
food and drinks, such as fried sea mussels, noodles, c<strong>of</strong>fee,<br />
O-liang (iced black c<strong>of</strong>fee) and sweets.<br />
