Smart sensors are the answer here. Industry 4.0-compatible sensors also have afurther interface in addition to outputs for the system control. This allows them to be linked up to Cloud services. Machines and process that are equipped with artificial intelligence create the prerequisite for more flexibility in the production. The visitors will be able to see how real the smart factory is and which challenges are involved in implementing the vision at the world's most important supplier trade fair of the food and beverage industry. The analysis shows the main broiler categories, regional distribution of broiler production, processing status, consumption characteristics, and problems existing in the development of broiler industry in China. The results indicate that chicken becomes more and more popular. The Eastern Region and high income people consume more chicken than others. The problems in the development of the broiler industry in China include disease prevention and control, scale farming, environmental pollution, and consumers’ confidence on the quality of chicken. By LimingZhao, Siya Guo,Yin Zhang, Hu Xia, WeiXiong andTingZhang China is the largest developing country in the world. Livestock and poultry industry directly relates to food supplication and nutrition balance of 1.4bn. people. Therefore, the Chinese government pays great importance to the development of animal husbandry. Chicken (Fig. 1) as one of the major raw meat material, it characterizes with high protein content, low fat content, and vitamin rich meat. It’s widely favored by Chinese consumers, especially the aged. Since the 21 st century,there are more and more old people in China. This population structure change makes the broiler industry see agood market potential in China. Nowadays, there are more than 40 mill. farms engaging in broiler breeding, and attracting more than 70 mill. people in employment in China. The broiler industry has experienced 30 years’ development, and gradually formed the pattern of variety optimized, feed priced, large-scale breeding and industrialized production. It has become the fastest, most typical and market-oriented industry in China. However,comparing with the developed countries, there is abig gap. In order to let more people understand the potential market opportunity of the broiler industry in China, the present production situation and consumption characteristics of broiler in China has to be presented. Broiler production According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture statistics, the world's chicken production is maintaining in asteady growth from 2010 to 2016 (Fig. 2).The world's broiler production increased from 78.2 mill. tin2010,to 89.3 mill. tin2016, with an average annual growth rate of 3.55%. The broiler production in China increased from 2010 to 2012,but a catastrophic blow happened in 2013 due to the outbreak of H7N9 avian influenza. The broiler production dropped from 13.7 mill. tin2012 to about 13.35 mill. tin2013,and then it kept in aflat development in 2014 and 2015 at over 13 mill. t. The broiler production fell to about 12.45 mill. tin2016 due to the outbreak of avian flu in the United States. The main broiler categories in China There are mainly two kinds of broiler in China. One is white-feather broiler (WB, Fig. 3, left), the other is yellow-feather broiler (YB, Fig. 3, right). Comparing to WB, the YB is easy to breed and its meat flavor is favorable, so it is widely welcomed by farmers and consumers in China, especially in the South of China. Regional distribution of broiler production in China The regional distribution of broiler production in China is shown in Figure 4. The main broiler breeding areas are Shandong, Jilin, Liaoning, Henan and Jiangsu provinces. The amount of broiler breeding in these areas accounts for 46.88% of the total amount in China. Among them, Shandong province accounts for 23.56% of the total broiler breeding, Jilin and Liaoning account for 9.75%,
