GBN senior passes away after brief illness

After my much loved lab, Buster,
passed away in May 2016, I
swore I’d never get another dog.
But, In July 2016, I adopted a
bonded pair of senior black labs, Sasha 13 years
young, and Sadie, 12 1/2 years young. (Sadly, Sadie
died from mast cell cancer three months later).
Sasha, now 14 1/2 years young, has all the energy of
a puppy! She is my little shadow and loves to follow
me around. She also loves being outside and going
for walks! Sasha has been a great addition to the
family. We recently fostered another senior dog (Lily)
and Sasha was a wonderful ‘big sister.’ My hope is
that others consider local shelters and rescue organizations
as they have some really great dogs!

Michelle Math, a senior
at GBN, passed away
May 8, following a brief
and unexpected illness,
according to a letter
signed by GBN Principal
Dr. John Finan and sent to
Glenbrook students and
parents.
“This is an extremely
difficult time for the entire
Spartan community,”
Finan said in the letter.
“In support of our students
and staff, counselors
and social workers will be
available tomorrow and in
the days following to provide
assistance as needed.
“We ask that you please
keep the Math family in
your thoughts and prayers
during this difficult
time.”
Glenbrook North educator
Bonnie Foster, who
is also a close friend
of the Math family, described
Math as “a ray of
sunshine” and “a phenomenal,
hard-working student,”
who had a passion
for dance and fashion.
According to District
225 officials, Math’s memorial
service was held on
Wednesday, May 16 at St.
Norbert Catholic Church,
1809 Walters Ave., in
Northbrook.

Group of four nabs merchandise from Lord & Taylor
Two male and two female
subjects took clothing
from the Lord &Taylor
store, located in the 1400
block of Lake Cook Road,
without paying for the
merchandise at 8:55 p.m.
on May 8.
The group of subjects
left the scene in a vehicle.
At the time of press, police
were not able to determine
an exact value on the
merchandise taken.

driving with a suspended
license, driving with no insurance
and driving with a
loud muffler at 2:37 a.m. in
the intersection of Dundee
and Lee.
• Israel Guzman, 35, of
Chicago, was charged with
driving with a suspended
license and expired registration
at 2:02 a.m. in the
intersection of Dundee and
Ash.
May 8
Devrup Dey, 38, of Saint
Francis, Wis., was charged
with driving with a suspended
license, driving
without lights when required
and speeding at
11:24 p.m. in the intersection
of Dundee and Shermer.
• Juan Alcantara-Reyes,
27, of Des Plaines, was
charged with an outstanding
warrant from Cook
County at 10:59 p.m. Officers
observed a driver using
their cell phone while
driving. Officer stopped
the vehicle and found the
driver had an outstanding
warrant from Cook County
for their arrest.
• Adalid Vargas, 38, of
Highwood, was charged
with driving wit a revoked
license, no valid proof of
insurance and failure to
stop before entering crosswalk
at 10:04 p.m. in the
intersection of Lake Cook
and Skokie.
• Danika Mason, 23, of
Chicago, was charged
with possession of a controlled
substance (less
than 30 grams), defective
windshield and improper
rear registration lighting
at 12:10 a.m. in the intersection
of Skokie and
Dundee. During a search
of the vehicle, illegal controlled
substances were
located.
May 7
• Eric Alvarado, 28, of
Chicago, was charged with
driving with a suspended
license and disobeying
traffic control signals at
8:55 p.m. in the intersection
of Skokie and Sunset
Ridge.
• Eggs were thrown at a
parked vehicle in the 4000
block of Picardy at 10:03
a.m.
May 6
• Angelica Tenika Wade,
35, of Des Plaines, was
charged with bond forfeiture
warrant at 7:27 p.m. in
the intersection of Skokie
and Lake Cook. Officers
on patrol were checking
a suspicious vehicle complaint
when they learned
the owner of the vehicle
had an outstanding arrest
warrant.
May 5
• A resident of the 900
block of Dorset was approached
at 12:30 p.m.
while outside doing yard

Highwood, was charged
with driving with a suspended
license and failure
to stop before entering a
crosswalk at 7:01 p.m. in
the intersection of Cherry
and Meadow.
