EDITOR’S NOTE
We All
Love
Winners
There’s something undeniably
attractive about success that
it’s part of our subconscious
behaviour, wired into our
DNA and selected for through
evolution. Because in doing so,
the strong survive to perpetuate
the gene pool.
Not all winners are
championed equally. There is
such a thing as winning with
humility and grace. In sports,
this is called sportsmanship. It’s
why we don’t tolerate winning
through cheating. It’s why we
cheer loudest, not always for the
guy we expect to win, but for the
one who works the hardest and
gives it their best. That’s why
an underdog can be a winner,
even if at the end of the match or
competition they walk away with
a silver and not a gold.
Tropicana Magazine cover
personalities Nick Fong, Alex Lee and Leslie Cheng are certainly a winning combination who have successfully
recognised each other’s strengths to create a successful interior design business. Their company, Nu Infinity, has
been instrumental in the design of many residential and commercial projects in the country; read about how the
trio make it work on page 22.
Speaking of sportsmanship, in this issue’s Swing (page 62) we tip our cap at the global tournaments that
truly discern champions from an already stellar list of elite players. From the Augusta Masters to the PGA
Championship, this is where champions are made.
Like stopping to smell the roses, success should be celebrated, and driving a Maserati is one of many ways to
enjoy the spoils of your toil. We take a closer look at the all new Ghibli on page 120.
Of course, what is wealth without good health? Tropicana’s resident health and nutrition expert Shereen Khoo
shares tips on maintaining the health of your heart for increased longevity and a better quality of life.
Last but not least, a resource we use widely here at Tropicana Magazine – Wikipedia. You may be surprised
to hear that Wikipedia, unlike other tech related entities such as Google and Facebook, is not for profit. For that
reason, it has not generated for Jimmy Wales the billions that Google has done for Larry Page and Sergey Brin, or
Facebook has for Mark Zuckerberg.
Yet if our interview on page 112 with Jimmy Wales is anything to go by, you couldn’t meet a more deserving
winner. Conceived because of a firm belief in truth and freedom of information, Jimmy Wales created Wikipedia
for the greater good; and as Mark Zuckerberg and the Cambridge Analytica revelations have helped to underline,
winners should be good guys.
So whatever you’re striving for, remember there are many paths you can take. Do the right thing, serve a
higher purpose and stick to the one that you can live with and which lets you sleep at night.
