Celebrating
New Life
GIVING
'…God has made this Jesus, whom
you crucified, both Lord and
Messiah.’ When the people heard
this they were cut to the heart and
said to Peter and the other
apostles, 'Brothers, what shall we
do?'
Peter replied, 'Repent and be
baptised, everyone one of you, in
the name of Jesus Christ for the
forgiveness of your sins.'
(Acts 2:36-38)
In his first great sermon, Peter
tells those cut to the heart by the
message of the risen Jesus Christ
to repent and be baptised. On that
day about 3,000 people became
Christians and were baptised. This
was the start of church as we
know it - God taking broken
people and making them new,
in the name of Jesus. This is still
happening today. Every Christian
here at Lansdowne is as much a
miracle as each one of those 3,000
people who surrendered their lives
to Jesus for the forgiveness of sins
that amazing day.
This summer we are celebrating
more new life! On the evening of
the 17 June we'll be joining
together down on the beach to
celebrate the baptisms of a
number of people who have
become Christians recently. Ever
since the first Christians we hear
of from the book of Acts, baptism
has been a sign for Christians that
we have been given new life in
Christ. The water isn't anything
special (other than being nice
warm English Channel salt water
on this occasion!), but the act of
baptism symbolises the burying of
our old lives and our rising to new
life in Christ. What a great reason
to celebrate together! More details
of time and location are available
on our website.
