MYCOTOXINS
Critical points in
Mycotoxin production
In India, there are two
major seasons of
maize harvest
1. March to May- Bihar
2. October to
January- Karnataka
Generally maize
is harvested
at 20-25% moisture
It is then dried
for 1 week to bring down
moisture to 10-12%
In monsoons,
harvest is not able to
dry properly
Because of this inadequate
loss of moisture, it remains
at 15-17%. This invites
high fungus growth
and subsequent
mycotoxin production
