Putting Down Roots
An enthusiastic group of youngsters turned
out one day last month to plant some trees
in Bridge of Weir. They were the winners
of the ‘Easter Stone Hunt, in which several
brightly painted stones were hidden around
the village prior to Brighter Bridge of Weir’s
Easter Pop-Up Shop fund-raiser. As well
as winning a prize on the day they were
each given the chance to plant a tree. So
there are now four young trees in the open
ground at The Grove, opposite Gibb Stuart’s,
something for those children to remember.
By now, Brighter Bridge of Weir’s summer
plants should
have arrived
and the
Group will
be spending
much of June refreshing the barrier baskets
and planters throughout the village, so it’s
going to be a busy time for the Group’s
volunteers.
After a slow, faltering start to the growing
season everything now seems to have
come at once. And in spite of the poor
weather earlier on, the Group were able to
ensure that the plants stayed healthy and
it looks as if this summer should see as
spectacular a display as ever.
Our two events in May - the Royal Afternoon Tea Party, and the annual
Summer Outing, were enjoyed in a great spirit of friendship. We now look
forward to welcoming you to the annual Kilmacolm Flower and Produce
Show, to be held in the New Community Centre, Kilmacolm, on Saturday
8th September. Exhibitors are encouraged to enter the Flower, Vegetable,
Pot Plant and Hanging Basket section, plus there is a special section
for Novices interested in exhibiting for the first time. Always an attractive
feature is the Floral Art. For a Show Schedule containing all the Classes
information, please contact Jill Russell on 01505 872393.
The Garden at the Cross in Kilmacolm has undergone a clean-up as phase
1 of Inverclyde Council’s improvement
scheme for towns and villages
within Inverclyde. The wall and
commemorative fountain have been
cleaned and strengthened, new shrubs
have been planted which will take a
little time to develop into a mature
garden. Lets hope for a summer of
good weather to encourage growth.
Happy gardening everyone!
