Dear Minister,
I am pleased to present the Film Finance Corporation Australia Limited
(FFC) Annual Report for 2007/08, concluding the corporation’s
20-year establishment.
The FFC finished its 20 years of operation with a record year of
investment from market partners. It invested in 23 feature films, three
telemovies, 15 adult and children’s mini-series, and 45 documentaries,
with a total production value of $291.46 million. Just 29.31% of this
total was contributed by the FFC, with the other 70.69% coming from
film distributors, sales agents, broadcasters, equity investors and other
financing partners. This is the highest gearing ratio achieved by the FFC
in its 20-year history. I am also pleased that the FFC in its final year
showed a profit of $2.2 million.
It was pleasing to note that the FFC’s contributions to captioning, through
its production investment guidelines for 2007, resulted in the organisation
being awarded ‘highly commended’ in the 2008 Best New Captioning
Initiative Award sponsored by Captioning and Subtitling International.
As we approach the end of an era, we at the FFC look back with pride on
the many memorable film, television and documentaries we have invested
in. Projects that have enriched the lives of Australians, as well as
showcasing our rich and diversified creative talents to the world.
I congratulate all our filmmakers on their achievements and thank all FFC
employees and board members, past and present, for their dedication
and hard work.
We look forward with great confidence to the Australian film industry’s
future success under the new assistance arrangements that will be
administered by Screen Australia from 1 July.
