In 1983 in Lawndale, North Carolina, Dennis and Suzy Bridges were starting a commercial nursery specializing in miniature roses. The initial introductions were mainly the outcome of using well established seed and pollen parents like ‘Sheri Anne’, ‘Watercolor’ and ‘Rise ‘n’ Shine’. By the late 1980s this dynamic duo was introducing some of the most desirable miniature roses on the market, varieties like pink blend ‘Kitty Hawk’, ‘Queen City’, ‘Cape Hatteras’, ‘Pinehurst’, all named with a regional flavor honoring the State of North Carolina. An outstanding variety, a cross of ‘Party Girl’ with a seedling produced an AOE winner which Dennis named for his wife. ‘Suzy’. Dennis has continued his successes with such prize winners as the mauve ‘Incognito’ and ‘Moonlight and Roses’ rounding off the century with another AOE winner named for a close friend, ‘Doris Morgan’.
