Summer Camp Week 5: July 16-20 (5 day camps) #322 The Illustrated Adventure (AOY) Open with limited space 07/16/2018 - 07/20/2018 $195.00 Description Ages 6 - 8, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, Teaching Artist: Virginia Manning In "The Illustrated Adventure," we'll start camp each day with an interactive group story time, with a book selected for the days theme. From there, we will move on to an art project, song or game inspired by the story. Campers will perform with puppets and create fabric sculptures and edible art. We will explore the components of the physical book, as well as different types of picture books, including wordless, concept, narratives and those told in verse, rhyme or prose. We will end each day with quiet time--a chance for campers to read a book they have chosen from the class library. The week's five themes are: Incredible Critters, Impossible Pets, Cook Books and Books with Cooks, Amazing Artists, and Camp Favorites. We will learn how to express ourselves with our art, like the great French impressionists Monet, Degas, and Pissarro. Each day the children will explore their techniques, materials and ideas and be inspired to make beautiful masterpieces of their own. Come make your first decorated cake!!! Students will learn how to mix their icing, fill their pastry bags and learn and practice how to use decorating tips for different designs. Students will learn how to prepare and design a small cake for decorating and leave class on their last day with a beautifully decorated cake of their own. We will work with wire, clay, cast plaster, Paris Craft and Sculpey Clay to create numerous sculptural forms. We will explore bas-relief, 3-D modeling, plaster carving, and wire forms with and without plaster craft coverings. Most pieces will be white when finished, but the relief carving is meant to be Full Color! Campers will have fun while increasing their sculpting skills!
