New Life of Currituck
by Pastor Dan Bergey
As I was developing thoughts for this article my mind goes back to a
recent speaking engagement. During a question and answer session
someone asked what are some important community things that we can
participate in? I responded with a question. Are you thinking of growing
your Church or serving your community? The room came to a complete silence.
At some point and time, we need to search for our motives as people
of faith and hope in Jesus Christ I said. We here in the news about the
opioid crisis, people hurting and killing others and so often we can either
get on the bad news band wagon of what all is wrong with the world, or
we can bury ourselves in the everything is okay in my community mindset.
I don’t pretend to have the answers, but I do know we need to ask the
tough questions as the Church. My greatest joy is serving the community
Church. Small Churches across America in my mind have some of the
most beautiful people in them, and some of the most wonderful leaders
and Pastors. But I do see a disconnect often between the Church and the
community. What am I getting at here? I am glad you asked. The Church
coming together in unity for a common purpose. It is my sense that we
are losing what it means to be in common unity (community) Please bear
with me because this is not a complaint but a call. A call for the Church to
wake up and begin to be the Church. In the book of Jude there are some
great words that go like this “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on
your most holy faith; praying in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves in the love
of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal
life. And have mercy on some, who are doubting; save others, snatching
them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the
garment polluted by the fl esh. Now to Him who is able to keep you from
stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless
with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord,
be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and
forever. Amen. Jude 20-25
Is there a person who is hurting? Life has got them down? Are you willing
to walk beside them and help them? I want to encourage the Church
in this article to wake up and show the love of Christ in the Church. It will
then be able to be seen by the community around it. Thank you Church for
beginning to serve one another for the world to see Jesus.
To forget one’s purpose is the
commonest form of stupidity.
Only You
It’s your grace, it’s your grace,
That saved my soul, saved my soul,
Your sacrifi ce, it’s your sacrifi ce,
That saved my life, saved my life
It’s your love, yes, it’s your love, that I live for
Without you, I would die, yes, I would die,
By your stripes, Yes, by your stripes
I am healed, I am healed
And it’s by your blood, by your blood,
That I am made, clean again
By your mercy, yes, your mercy, that I still live,
It’s only you, only you, that sustains me
Triple Fed
By Ron Ben-Dov
A Sunday morning festival
To celebrate the Lord
We gather all, to start in prayer
And break our fast with zeal
Pastor shared the anointed Word
Of Jesus and disciples
Communion shared and partaken
Both the body and the blood
We closed in prayer and blessings too
Proceeded out for lunch
Gathered in the fellowship hall
Both the meek and the bold
Once more we thanked the Lord
As were fed once again
In fellowship and friendship
Jesus Christ and us.
