LONEHILL
Once upon a time, long, looonnggg ago, it was 1999. On the
banks of the Jukskei River, a golf course was being converted to a
majestic building. First one building, then two and then more! And
finally, rising from the earth, Crawford Preparatory Lonehill school
emerged, and stood tall!
Our campus boasts a top-notch 25-metre swimming pool that was
added to the facilities in 2002. It is hard to believe that this too was
once just a hole in the ground.
One of the last buildings to be completed on the campus was the
school hall. Pupils and staff would sit outside on the grass and
assemblies were held in the open air.
It must be something
in the Lonehill water –
time hasn’t changed
for these lovely ladies!

Our buildings have been designed in a
classical and timeless fashion which means that
from 1999 until today, the look of our campus
has stayed relevant and up to date. One of
the most interesting things to note is how the
natural elements, especially the trees, have
grown and flourished on our campus. (Much
like our pupils!)

Our very first principal on
the new, alone-standing
campus, was Mr. Neville
Swain. Neville was at
the helm of our school
from 2000 to 2013
when he retired and
moved to the UK, where
he now teaches a few
classes from time to time
because being a teacher
is not a profession, but a
calling that doesn’t seem
to adhere to the rules of
retirement!
Do you recognise this
young superstar? Tony de
Zorzi is a South African
cricketer. He was included
in the Northerns squad for
the 2016 Africa T20 Cup.
He made his Twenty20
debut for Northerns against
Kenya on 16 September
2016. And yes, he was the
1st Team Cricket captain at
our school in 2010! Tony
showed great potential
from a very young age
and we are proud of the
fact that we had a hand
in developing his talents.
