Eagles juniors in national title win
Two Highfields Eagles junior rugby league players
were in the under 15s championship winning
Queensland team at the National Secondary School
Championships earlier this month.
Blake Cesari, left, and Xavier Va’a had an outstanding
carnival and topped off their solid performances with a
grand final win over NSW in Mackay.
Va’a captained the winning Queensland team and
was unlucky to miss out on making the Australian merit
team, an achievement earned by his team mate Cesari.
Both boys play for the under 15s Eagles team after
Va’a recently joined the club moving from Dalby.
Cesari has been playing with the Eagles since under
8s. - Jack Waters.
FISHING
Low hauls at Chinchilla Weir
CABARLAH: The June trip
was to Chinchilla Weir with this
being the annual competition between
Cabarlah, Chinchilla and
Taroom.
All members who attended
put in a solid effort on the water.
Saturday saw beautiful weather
in comparison, to previous
years quite mild. One club member
did, however, help the local
economy by ducking in to town
and buying himself an electric
blanket.
The sausage sizzle was well
attended with the Chinchilla ladies
generously supplying desserts
and potato bake.
Gary also supplied a trailer
full of firewood for us throughout
the weekend which, along
with the use of the ski club
grounds, is greatly appreciated.
Plenty of carp removed for
the weekend but the Yellowbelly
were harder to find.
Those that did were all good
size though.
Chinchilla won the shield
against Cabarlah and we retained
the shield against Taroom.
With the low numbers caught,
the scores were close across the
board.
The club’s July trip was to
Boondooma Dam last weekend.
