Jeong H. Kim is the 11th president of Bell Labs, the <strong>com</strong>munication industry’s<br />
most heralded research organization. His background ranges from being a CEO<br />
of a high technology start-up to senior executive of a Fortune 500 corporation.<br />
Kim’s early career en<strong>com</strong>passed <strong>com</strong>puter design, satellite systems design and<br />
data <strong>com</strong>munications and included seven years as a nuclear submarine officer<br />
in the U.S. Navy.<br />
Kim holds a Ph.D. in Reliability Engineering from the University of Maryland, a<br />
Master’s degree in Technical Management and Bachelor’s degree in Electrical<br />
Engineering and Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University. Kim<br />
currently serves on the boards of the Johns Hopkins University, Stanford<br />
University’s Freeman Spogli Institute of International Studies, and Global<br />
Internet Ventures. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and<br />
the NASDAQ Listing and Hearing Review Council, and was named one of the<br />
10 most influential Asian Americans in business for 2005 by the U.S. Pan Asian<br />
American Chamber.<br />
Mark D. Lerner, representing members of the Lerner, Cohen, Tanenbaum<br />
family, is a principal owner of the <strong>Washington</strong> Nationals Baseball Club and a<br />
principal of Lerner Enterprises, a Rockville, Md., based real estate development,<br />
management and investment <strong>com</strong>pany founded in 1952 by his father, Ted<br />
Lerner. Lerner Enterprises development activity is mainly concentrated in the<br />
<strong>Washington</strong>, D.C., metropolitan area. Some of the <strong>com</strong>pany’s major projects<br />
include White Flint, White Flint North, <strong>Washington</strong> Square at 1050 Connecticut<br />
Avenue, NW, 20 M Street, SE, 2000 Tower Oaks Boulevard, The Corporate<br />
Office Centre at Tysons II, Dulles Town Center, Fallsgrove Village Center and<br />
the Greenbelt Marriott Hotel, among many others. Lerner also has developed<br />
and manages many residential <strong>com</strong>munities in the <strong>Washington</strong>, D.C., area. In<br />
addition, Lerner Enterprises is a partner in Chelsea Piers, a 30-acre sports and<br />
entertainment <strong>com</strong>plex located on the Hudson River in New York City.<br />
Lerner and his family have been involved in many worthwhile causes including<br />
the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, The<br />
George <strong>Washington</strong> University, Georgetown Day School, The Scleroderma<br />
Foundation of Greater <strong>Washington</strong>, Jewish Community Centers of Greater<br />
<strong>Washington</strong> and the District of Columbia, JCC Maccabi Games, The United<br />
States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Imagination Stage, ADL In Concert<br />
against Hate, YouthAids, Juvenile Diabetes, Junior Achievement, Food and<br />
Friends and the <strong>Washington</strong> Nationals Dream Foundation, among many others.<br />
He currently serves as a trustee of the Jewish Community Center of Greater<br />
<strong>Washington</strong>, a member of the board of Hillel at The George <strong>Washington</strong><br />
University and the advisory board of Israel Bonds.<br />
Roger Mody is the founder and chairman of The Mody Foundation, whose<br />
goal is to provide higher education, health-based and athletics funding for<br />
economically disadvantaged inner-city children. Mody also is an associate<br />
publisher of Inc. Magazine and has been featured on CNN. He is the former<br />
chairman and CEO of SIGNAL Corporation, an information technology services<br />
<strong>com</strong>pany supporting the Federal Government. SIGNAL achieved revenue of<br />
$300 million in 2002 with 2,200 employees. Mody sold the <strong>com</strong>pany to Veridian<br />
Corporation for $227 million in 2002.<br />
Mody and SIGNAL were the recipients of multiple industry and growth awards,<br />
including Ernst & Young High Technology Entrepreneur of the Year, KPMG<br />
Peat Marwick High Technology Entrepreneur of the Year, Small Business<br />
Administration (SBA) Entrepreneur and Business of the Year, <strong>Washington</strong><br />
Technology Fast 50 growth award, Arthur Andersen’s Best Practices Award for<br />
Exceeding Customer Expectations, Deloitte & Touches Fast 500 and Inc. 500,<br />

The Mody Foundation has been actively involved in the <strong>Washington</strong>-area<br />
philanthropic <strong>com</strong>munity with participation in numerous organizations,<br />
including; Inova Fairfax Hospital pediatric heart program, St. Jude’s Children’s<br />
Research Hospital, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, The Orphan<br />
Network, National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Easter Seals. The Mody<br />
Foundation also has supported Cardinals AAU Basketball, Alexandria Rising<br />
Stars Basketball, Joe Gibbs’ Youth For Tomorrow and The Good Samaritan<br />
Foundation. He was a charter member of the <strong>Washington</strong> Redskins Leadership<br />
Council and served as chairman of <strong>Washington</strong>’s 2003 Fight Night, which raised<br />
a then record $2 million for the Fight for Children organization.<br />
Anthony Nader is president and chief executive officer of NEW Customer<br />
Service Companies, a unit of NEW Asurion Corporation. Under his leadership,<br />
NEW has grown to be the leading global provider of extended service plans for<br />
the consumer electronics and appliance industries. NEW was the first <strong>com</strong>pany<br />
of its type to receive a JD Power Certification; it was recently recognized by the<br />
<strong>Washington</strong> Business Journal as one of the top 50 places to work.<br />
Nader is involved in a number of philanthropic, business and <strong>com</strong>munity<br />
organizations, including the Inova Health System Foundation Board, where<br />
he is past chairman, and the Inova Health System Board of Trustees. He is a<br />
member of Venture Philanthropy Partners, The Economic Club of <strong>Washington</strong>,<br />
D.C., and the Young Presidents Organization, a Partner in the <strong>Washington</strong><br />
Nationals Baseball Club and a principal in SWaN Investors. He is a graduate<br />
of John Carroll University and holds an MBA in finance from the Weatherhead<br />
School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. Nader, his wife,<br />
Annette, and their three children live in Northern Virginia.<br />
Fredrick D. Schaufeld is managing director of SWaN Investors. SWaN<br />
has 20 widely diversified investments, including growth oriented <strong>com</strong>panies,<br />
domestic and international real estate ventures and the <strong>Washington</strong> Nationals<br />
Baseball Club. Schaufeld is also founder and chairman of NEW Customer<br />
Service Companies and vice chairman of its parent <strong>com</strong>pany, NEW Asurion<br />
Corporation, the world’s leading consumer product protection administrator.<br />
Schaufeld was a founder of the Service Contract Industry Council (SCIC) and<br />
with his wife, Karen Schaufeld, authored its first model law, a derivation of<br />
which was adopted by most states. Prior to founding NEW, Schaufeld worked<br />
in the live talent industry.<br />
Schaufeld is active on a number of corporate and philanthropic boards,<br />
including CustomInk.<strong>com</strong>; Loudoun Country Day School, where he is currently<br />
board chairman; Fight For Children; One Voice Movement; and the <strong>Washington</strong><br />
Nationals Youth Baseball Academy. He is a member of Venture Philanthropy<br />
Partners and the Young Presidents’ Organization. Schaufeld is a graduate of<br />
Lehigh University and has three children.<br />
Earl Stafford is the chairman and CEO of The Stafford Foundation and The<br />
Stafford Foundation is a faith-based, nonprofit organization that supports more<br />
than 30 nonprofits that provide services to the disadvantaged and underserved<br />
and help them to improve their lives and be<strong>com</strong>e self-reliant. The foundation<br />
created and funded The People’s Inaugural Project, which brought hundreds of<br />
disadvantaged Americans from across the country to witness and participate<br />
in the inauguration of President Obama. The foundation also established the<br />
Doing Good campaign with Dr. Bill Cosby’s endorsement. The campaign is<br />
designed for people who are seeking ways to help others be<strong>com</strong>e self-sufficient<br />
so that they may in turn help others who are underserved. Stafford is the<br />
former chairman and CEO of UNITECH, a technology solutions <strong>com</strong>pany that<br />
developed advance distributed training programs, training simulation systems<br />
and homeland security solutions for the Federal Government.
