RBL (Women’s Section, Swaffham)
I and the members of The Royal British Legion
(Women’s Section) would like to thank The Royal
British Legion together with the Town councillors for
all their hard work organising such a great event in
Swaffham on the 21st June with the Grenadier Guards
Beating the Retreat. It was a lovely day enjoyed by
all, especially by the children, I wonder how many
little boys and girls went home saying they would like
to be a Guardsman/woman when they grow up.
The concert in the church afterwards was a great
success and enjoyed by all if the response by the
audience was anything to go by so a big thank you to
the Grenadiers.
What a nice way to remember all our service men/
women who gave their lives for us in the first World
War 100 years ago, we were proud of them then,
I think they would be proud of us today. We have
remembered them.

West Acre Village Hall Committee
The West Acre Village fete held on 23rd June was the
best to date, with additional stalls selling arts and
crafts from local people to add to the entertainment.
Starting an hour earlier proved to be very popular
allowing people to enjoy a delicious lunch of trout,
game, something from the BBQ or just tea and cakes
for those with a sweet tooth. It was a lovely sunny
day with children playing in the river, cheering on
their duck to try and win the well sought after West
Acre Duck Race badges.
We would like to thank all of the local businesses who
generously donated raffle prizes and to everyone who
contributed towards the tombola, cake stall, books
and bric-a-brac which,
along with all the games,
play an important part of
the day. Most of all a big
thank you to Garlinda for
allowing us to use her
garden again and all the
volunteers who gave up
their own time to make
the day happen and help
raise £3580 for the West
Acre Village Hall.

Extended Opening Hours
Along with other libraries across Norfolk, Swaffham
Library will be offering longer opening hours with
an extended Open Libraries service from the end of
June. This widens access to library materials, public
computers and quiet, creative spaces to meet or
study even while the building is unstaffed, making
your library available at times that are convenient
for you.With an Open Libraries registration you will
be able to visit and use the library:
Monday to Friday 8am-7pm
Saturday 8am-4pm
Sunday 10am-4pm
These times contain both staffed and unstaffed
hours, and you will need to register for our Open
Libraries service to access the library during
unstaffed times.

For a week in July we had a lovely student from
Hamonds Academy join us on work experience.
Sandra M is in year 10 and preparing for her GCSE’s
next year. She was a great asset to the office and we
wish her all the best for the future.
