Autumn Leaves Autumn Leaves ist der englische Titel des von Johnny Mercer aus dem Französischen übertragenen Chansons Les Feuilles Mortes. Durch die Interpretation von Cannonball Adderley (1958 auf seinem Album Somethin’ Else) mit Miles Davis als Sideman, der „mit seinem legendären melancholischen Sound und seinen bedächtig gewählten, einsam verhangenen Tönen genau den Nerv des Songs trifft“, wurde das Potenzial des Stücks als Jazztitel deutlich. Mit dem Plakat visualisierte ich einen schönen Herbsttag. Der Rhythmus der Farben blau, grün und orange fängt die Klangfarbe der Musik ein, die klar und prägnant ist. Auch wird die Natur, die bis vor kurzem voller Leben war, angedeutet. Lediglich die orange Verfärbung der Blätter weist auf den Umbruch hin, verstärkt noch durch das Herabfallen der Blätter vom Baum. Die brüchige Typografie „Autumn Leaves“ unterstreicht den Eindruck des Wechsels der Natur vom Sommer zum Herbst/Winter zusätzlich. Autumn Leaves Autumn Leaves is the title of the originally French song Les Feuilles Mortes, with English lyrics written by Johnny Mercer. The piece’s potential as a jazz title was made clear by Cannonball Adderley’s performance (on his 1958 album Somethin’ Else) with Miles Davis as a sideman, whose “melancholy sound and carefully chosen, lonesomely cloudy tones perfectly hit the song’s nerve”. The poster visualizes a beautiful autumn day. The rhythm of the colours blue, green and orange matches the clear and distinct sound of the music, and hints at nature until recently full of life. The leaves’ colour changing to orange is the only indication of decline, intensified by the falling leaves. The fragile typography of “Autumn Leaves” adds to the impression of changes taking place in nature, as summer turns into autumn/winter.
