Stand in awe in Yangon
A lively city full of tropical vegetation,
Yangon is known as the Garden City of the
East. As well as the traditional markets and
tea shops, Yangon is home to the striking
Shwedagon Pagoda, a huge golden structure
that will set the imagination running wild.
See the Irrawaddy by sailboat
This famed river runs through Myanmar’s
most magical landscapes, and the Sanctuary
Ananda’s custom-built shallow draught means
it can navigate even the most unexplored parts
in the upper and lower sections of the river.
Experience local life
Inle Lake is one of the most picturesque
sights in Myanmar. The villages are full of
stilted houses and, relatively free of tourists,
a traditional way of life still holds sway here.
Cruise the calm waters, see the many green
islands and shoreside pagodas, and meet the
local fishermen.
Find your bliss at a monastery
Take a scenic walk through the hills to Htut
Ni, one of the villages of the Danu tribe.
Witness the local traditions practised here
before heading to some of the other tribal
villages in the area, and eventually to Yasakyi
Monastery where you’ll spend the night.
Balloon over Bagan
Within the region of Bagan there are over
2,000 pagodas, temples and monasteries to be
seen, and nothing beats seeing them with a
bird’s-eye view. Soar through the Golden Land
in a hot-air balloon to fully appreciate the
majesty of this region.
Float away to lunch
As you wait in anticipation for the delightful
meal being prepared, feel yourself drift over
the surface of Inle Lake as the local fishermen
head this way and that in search of their catch.
Few experiences compare with a meal on
board a floating restaurant here.
Sanctuary Ananda
Enjoy an exciting river cruise in unsurpassed
luxury. Each of the 21 beautiful suites has a
private balcony looking over the enchanting
river, and there’s also a plunge pool and
Thambyadine Spa by L’Occitane on board.
Belmond Governor’s Residence
This 1920s-built hotel was once the home of
the ruler of Burma’s southern states. Located
in the Embassy Quarter of Yangon, it’s a
beautiful example of the city’s colonial-era
architecture. Evening is the perfect time to
enjoy the sumptuous garden’s lotus pools.
Villa Inle Resort and Spa
True relaxation awaits – whether enjoying
the spa or exploring the eight-hectare private
grounds, there’s plenty of peaceful activities.
Discover the lake too, which showcases the
Myanmarese traditions of old, both in the
local lifestyles and the many historic pagodas
to be seen.
