DAY 3: COLOMBO – SIGIRIYA<br />
Drive to the ‘Lion Rock’. This UNESCO World<br />
Heritage Site is a rocky outcrop, topped with<br />
King Kassapa I’s fifth-century palace.<br />
DAY 4: SIGIRIYA – POLONNARUWA –<br />
SIGIRIYA<br />
Head to the ruined city of Polonnaruwa, the<br />
island’s medieval capital between the 11th and<br />
13th centuries, for a sightseeing cycle.<br />
DAY 5: SIGIRIYA – DAMBULLA – KANDY<br />
Dambulla is Sri Lanka’s greatest cave-temple<br />
complex, resplendent with frescoes and<br />
religious statues.<br />
DAY 6: KANDY<br />
See the city’s architecture and street food,<br />
kottu, being <strong>made</strong>; visit temples; take a tuktuk;<br />
and finish at the ‘Temple of the Tooth’.<br />
DAY 7: KANDY<br />
Tea-time: Hike around the Ceylon Tea House<br />
in the Hanthana mountain range before<br />
returning to your hotel.<br />

DAY 8: KANDY - NUWARE ELIYA<br />
Soak up tea-estate-dotted scenery on a train<br />
journey to Nanuoya.<br />

An early start takes you for a hike to World’s<br />
End, to see many species of plants, animals<br />
and birds. Spot sambar deer and purple-faced<br />

you transfer to Bentota, then relax in style.<br />

Enjoy water sports, see the mangroves, visit<br />
the local turtle hatchery or chill on the beach.<br />
DAY 13: BENTOTA - COLOMBO - UK<br />
