ITEM #11 APPROVED GRANT AWARDS Transmitting a Communication, dated July 16, 2001 from HENRY A. BUDZINSKI, Interim Chief Judge, Circuit Court of Cook County requesting authorization to accept a grant in the amount of $250,000.00 from the State of Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS). This grant will fund an expansion of the court’s award winning continuum of juvenile detention alternatives and dispositional programs. These diversionary programs are used by judges in the court’s Juvenile Justice Division to address the needs of minors in both the preadjudication and post-dispositional stages of cases. These programs have been directly responsible for reducing overcrowding at the Juvenile Temporary Detention Center over the past five years.
ITEM #11 cont'd GRANT AWARDS continued Page 9 POST BOARD ACTION AGENDA Meeting of August 9, 2001 The grant will fund a community-based evening reporting center for girls in the City of Chicago, the first such alternative detention program for girls in the State of Illinois. The Juvenile Probation and Court Services Department is in the planning stages for this reporting center and will come before the Board when a suitable site and service provider have been identified. Estimated Fiscal Impact: None. Grant Award: $250,000.00. Funding period: July 1, 2001 through June 30, 2002. ITEM #12 APPROVED * * * * * Transmitting a Communication, dated July 23, 2001 from J. ROBERT CASH, Chief Administrative Officer, Office of the Public Defender requesting authorization to accept a grant award in the amount $77,500.00 from the Bureau of Justice Assistance of the U.S. Department of Justice for a program entitled Representing Noncitizen Criminal Defendants in the State of Illinois. The goal of this program is to enhance the level of legal representation rendered in Illinois to indigent noncitizen defendants facing immigration consequences as a result of state criminal proceedings. This goal will be accomplished through the dual objectives of: 1) providing public defenders and appointed counsel with a resource (i.e., a reference manual) and training for assessing the potential immigration consequences of state criminal proceedings, and 2) improving judicial economy by reducing the court time devoted to post-dispositional motions dealing with unanticipated immigration consequences. Estimated Fiscal Impact: None. Grant Award: $77,500.00. Funding period: June 1, 2001 through November 30, 2002. ITEM #13 APPROVED * * * * * Transmitting a Communication, dated July 13, 2001 from DENNIS MANZKE, Chief of the Administrative Services Bureau, State’s Attorney’s Office requesting authorization to accept a grant award in the amount of $40,000.00 from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. This grant will contribute funds for the salary for the Child Sexual Abuse Specialist funded under the Child Sexual Abuse Specialist program. This is a new grant that continues services previously provided under the Victim Sensitive Interview program. The grant works in conjunction with a grant from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office. Together, the two grants fully fund the Child Sexual Abuse Specialist program. Estimated Fiscal Impact: $2,024.00. Grant Award: $40,000.00. Funding period: July 1, 2001 through June 30, 2002. (250-818 Account). ITEM #14 APPROVED * * * * * Transmitting a Communication, dated July 13, 2001 from DENNIS MANZKE, Chief of the Administrative Services Bureau, State’s Attorney’s Office requesting authorization to accept a grant award in the amount of $25,531.00 from the Attorney General of Illinois. This grant will contribute funds for the salary and benefits for the Child Sexual Abuse Specialist funded under the Child Sexual Abuse Specialist program.
