Fall speaker series open to the public at
Lake Forest Country Day School
On Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 10
a.m., LFCDS welcomes New
York Times best-selling author
Dr. Tina Payne Bryson, Founder
and Executive Director of
The Center for Connection in
Pasadena, CA. Dr. Bryson is a
psychotherapist who specializes
in children and adolescent
behavior. Dr. Bryson’s talk is
entitled, “The Yes Brain: Cultivating
Emotional Regulation,
Resilience, Personal Insight, and
Empathy in Children.”
On Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 10 a.m.,
LFCDS will host Dr. Eboo Patel,
a leading voice in the movement
for interfaith cooperation and
the Founder and President of
Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC), a
national nonprofit organization
dedicated to making interfaith
cooperation a social norm. He
is the author of the best-selling
books “Acts of Faith,” “Sacred
Ground” and “Interfaith Leadership.”
Lake Forest Country Day
School places an emphasis on
rigorous academics as well as
social and emotional learning
and responsible citizenship. According
to Head of School Joy
Hurd, “A student’s social and
emotional well-being is a direct
contributor to academic success.”
He notes that achievement test
scores for students with social
and emotional instruction are
eleven percent higher than those
of students without this training.
“In addition, developing
awareness, appreciation, and
empathy ultimately leads our
students to understand that they
have the capacity to shape and
direct their paths,” Hurd said.
Through its annual Special
Speaker Series, LFCDS is committed
to bringing parenting and
child-development experts to the
North Shore communities. These
expert-led events, which are
free and open to the public, take
place at Lake Forest Country
