Learning, faith at the forefront
at St. Jude Parish School
St. Jude Parish School
in New Lenox has entered
a new phase in its 60-plus
year journey in guiding the
spiritual, academic, emotional
and social growth
and development of our
next generation of students
in grades preschool
through eighth-grade.
St. Jude’s mission continues
to be to provide a
superior Catholic education
based on the teachings
of Jesus Christ to help the
students acquire strong academic
skills and become
spiritual leaders. We provide
rigorous instruction to
meet the needs of our 21st
Century learners.
Instructional methods
are updated continuously
based on the latest academic
research. Curriculum is
implemented to address the
needs of all the students in a
differentiated learning environment,
all while adhering
to the Catholic and Illinois
State Learning Standards.
The success of our students
can be seen through
their consistently high performance
on standardized
tests, high school entrance
exams, scholarships awarded,
academic competitions,
and honor roll. The professional
and experienced St.
Jude faculty also takes pride
in providing not only to the
academic growth of our students,
but also to development
of the whole person.
St. Jude offers instructional
and competitive volleyball
and basketball for
boys and girls. Other activities
include, band, guitar,
school choir, crochet
club, small engines class,
STEM activities, reading
incentives, Battle of the
Books and science fair.
Of course, central to our
faith-based learning community
is the participation
of the students in many
service-related projects
and parish activities. St.
Jude students belong to
the Helping Hands Club,
which participates in many
service-related activities
throughout the year,
such as volunteering at
the soup kitchen, making
ornaments, visits to veterans
home residents and
collecting food for food
drives.
Each school day begins
with a school-wide prayer
and emphasizes developing
as servant leaders. One
day a month is a Focus Day,
which the students devote
time, talents and treasures
to a charity or community
group. Students are prepared
for their sacraments
not only by their class but
by the school community
as a whole. Students prepare
and celebrate mass
together on a weekly basis
and participate in various
prayer services throughout
the year.
Technology at St. Jude
is at the forefront of developing
strong 21st Century
learners. Students use a
fully equipped computer
lab and each classroom
has an updated Smart
Board. Students in grades
5-8 participate in a oneto-one
laptop program,
and a class set of iPads are
available for grades K-4.
School staff uses the latest
educational programs to
enhance instruction, such
as Discovery Education,
Edmodo and Dojo. Our junior
high students produce
a daily podcast that reports
information about school
and parish events, news,
student-related discussion
topics and more.
Our new pastor, Father
Robert Basler, is committed
to the role our school
plays in the parish and is a
strong advocate to our parish
school. He can be seen
frequently visiting and
interacting in the school
and guiding our students
in their spiritual development.
Our new principal, Mrs.
Kathleen Winters has a
lifelong commitment to
Catholic education and
comes to us with more than
15 years of experience in
teaching in all grades from
preschool through college
age. Together along with
a strong school staff and
parish support, St. Jude
School will continue to
