As students head back to<br />
school, the Mokena Community<br />
Public Library District encourages<br />
parents and students to stop in and<br />
see what their library has to offer.<br />
“Our library provides students<br />
with the tools they need to succeed,”<br />
Executive Director Cathy<br />
Palmer said.<br />
Resources at the Mokena library<br />
are available to anyone<br />
who has a library card. Students<br />
can turn to the library for reference<br />
materials and services that<br />
support academic achievement.<br />
The library houses thousands of<br />
titles in print, a large collection<br />
of eBooks and numerous online<br />
subscription databases available<br />
in the library and remotely. The<br />
library selected these online resources<br />
for you, so people know<br />
they can trust that the information<br />
is accurate. Students can<br />
access free reference resources<br />
24/7 online at www.mokenali<br />
brary.org. They will have access<br />
to literary criticism, science and<br />
technology, language courses,<br />
readers’ advisory and much<br />
more. These resources include<br />
Gale Virtual Reference Library<br />
with more than 300 research<br />
books and Tutor.com for students<br />
in grades K-12 and college<br />
students. Access to Tutor.com is<br />
available 10 a.m.-10 p.m., seven<br />
days a week. Explore the many<br />
ways the library can help find the<br />
answers anyone may need.<br />
Come check out the exciting<br />
technologies at the library for<br />
STEAM education. Our 3-D<br />
printer class teaches participants<br />
to create objects designed on a<br />
computer and print them out using<br />
3-D printing technology. The<br />
virtual reality computer allows<br />
users an interactive learning<br />
experience. Learners can travel<br />
the solar system or be shrunk<br />
down to microscopic levels and<br />
explore the human body using<br />
the VR station. The library also<br />
meets a wide range of other<br />
technology needs of the student<br />
with internet and Wi-Fi access,<br />
public computers, printers, Wi-<br />
Fi printing, scan station and an<br />
Intel Reader to assist those with<br />
dyslexia or others who may need<br />
assistance with reading.<br />
The library also has numerous<br />
programs and activities for<br />
students throughout the year. By<br />
providing school-age children<br />
with engaging programs and<br />
amazing collections, students<br />
from all backgrounds become<br />
excited and enthusiastic readers.<br />
This school year, we encourage<br />
students to open the door to a<br />
world of possibilities and sign up<br />
for a library card today. We are<br />
also promoting reading to newborns,<br />
infants and toddlers with<br />
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten.<br />
This program does encourage<br />
parent and child bonding<br />
through reading.<br />
