Travel Guide:
72 Hours in Bali
Welcome to the Islands of God. If you will go to Bali anytime soon, this most
sought after tropical destination has everything that you could imagine.
By: Marky Gallibu
The island lies between the islands of Java and Lombok which
makes it more than just a physical destination.
I was thinking of Bali in my office desk every day until one time I
randomly booked a roundtrip ticket to see and experience their
human, natural and spiritual world.
Any traveller could relate if I say that where on Earth can you do
all of these things?
Be a sun worshipper in Kuta, admire every artisan’s handcraft in
Ubud Art Market, walk through the rice paddies in Tegalalang,
bike your way to an all original Nasi Goreng or Bobi Goling, go
temple hopping and interact with monkeys, ride a fast boat to
Nusa Penida. Most especially the most loved activity that I enjoy
is to eat my heart out in a buffet breakfast that our hotel offers.
Let us start the journey!
Ubud
Ubud is a two (2) hour ride from Ngurah Rai
International Airport where the cultural capital
is located. It is where art lovers unite and a place
where you can speak your soul through arts. This
part of Bali is huge. A place where you can be so
up-close with nature at the same time experience
arts.
Head on to a Balinese restaurant and refuel with
a local cuisine in Teba Sari, a popular restaurant
in all of Ubud. I grabbed my personal favourite
the Nasi Goreng special consist of a mouthwatering
seafood fried rice, crispy chicken, trio
of satay, fried egg, sambal, chili-soya pickles,
and shrimp crackers all in one plate.
After that, coffee is calling and so you must go!
I always support local every time I travel. A visit
to an agro-tourism site like the Uma Pakel to try
the Kopi Luwak - the most expensive coffee in
the world is a must. As you enter the site, local
guides will assist you to an all exclusive coffee
testing for FREE, but of course Kopi Luwak has
a fee of 240 pesos only. We grabbed a cup of it
so to have a bragging rights that we could afford
this type of coffee. After all we satisfied our
cravings first.
After this, roam around the site to either
experience the Bali swing or have a picture in the
nest. Make sure to travel slow, stop for a while
and appreciate nature as its finest.
Should a green background is needed on your IG
feed, Tegalalang Rice Terraces got it covered.
With picturesque background and a dramatic
view, tourist can stop for a while and take a
photo. A farmer was not bothered and gamely
posed for a while. While the terraces alone can
be a highlight on your visit here, souvenir shops
abound along the roadsides.
When the sun is about to set, we told our
driver to drop us in Ubud Art Markets there we
bought rattan bags that costs double here in the
Philippines.
Ubud Art Market
Coffee Tasting at Uma Pakel
Kopi Luwak
Ulun Danu Temple
I recommend you to go in the morning as it has
less crowd and offer the best price. Trust me, you
can always ask for the cheapest and lowest price.
Just do it in a nice way. Just ask.
We checked in at 7pm in Ramada Bali Sunset
Road Kuta. Originally, I booked a regular hotel
room and I sent an email to the hotel after
booking it asking for a room upgrade. And yes it
was upgraded to three (3) bedroom suite which
I was told before checking in. That was possible
because of my Wyndham Rewards Gold
membership.
We were exhausted and tired for a long day
journey in Ubud so ending a night with a bangthat
us because of bed for the night is just as
awesome as their service was.
We also took advantage of its free breakfast and
some amenities in the hotel. I just wished we
could have stayed longer at this property.
From check in to check out all were invoked the
spirit of the island.
For bookings check their website and enrol to
their free hotel loyalty program at
Bali Swing
Ubud Art Market
Nusa Penida
At 7 AM, we headed to Sanur Beach harbour to
head on to Bali’s prime beach destination--Nusa
Penida. The voyage took us about 45 minutes
from the harbour to Nusa Penida. Wether you
stay for a day or overnight, there are many things
to do in this secluded island. I found a good deal
online that costs 2,600 pesos which include
hotel pick-up and drop-off from Bali, lunch, boat
transfers, entrance fees, driver in the island and
tour guide.
Kelingking beach did not disappoint me. This
instagram famous spot leaves me surreal and
in awe. It was like a drone shot positioned from
above. Angel’s Billabong is just one of the finest
spot. Broken beach as its name suggest is an
incredible little cove on the island. As you can
see on the picture, the water flows inside and
outside from the ocean.
At exactly 4 PM, we headed back to the port and
back to the mainland Bali. For a hassle free trip to
this island check out Nusa Penida Tour Packages
on Facebook. I ran out of words to describe how
my experience in Nusa Penida should sum up.
What I remember after the trip while scanning
my phone were all those photos standing on
the T-Red cliff in Kelingking viewpoint. I just
remembered how I laid my eyes on the beach
down below.
This journey was also a hotel and resort hopping.
On the second night, we checked in to a stunning
hotel and beach resort in East Bali. The staffs of
Wyndham Tamansari Jivva Resort Bali welcomed
us at their property situated in a lush landscape
along the crystal-clear blue waters of the Bali
Sea. I used my 18,000 Wyndham rewards points
good for two (2) rooms, one is for a go fast and
go free. I used the same hack that I just did for
the first night. I booked two (2) regular rooms
that was available in my award wallet.
Once confirmed I immediately sent an email to
the hotel’s manager asking for a room upgrade
and viola they upgraded us to an amazing king
deluxe room. If you need the email template that
always work for almost every hotel in the world.
I just loved how our stay mixed with a modern
luxury and have enjoyed the sea breeze that kick
started our relaxing island day.
The next morning we enjoyed a Balinese buffet
breakfast in their beautifully landscaped
restaurant. Indeed, our stay was a complete stay
of mind.
We basked in the sun for two (2) days and it was
about time to go to South Bali as dubbed as the
coldest place in Bali. I experienced first-hand the
growing agro-tourism in south of Bali. Farmers
produce are found at their vegetable market.
The fog in Ulun Danu Temple never bothered
us anyways. It is one if the most famous Hindu
Temples in all of Indonesia.
While we traverse to Bedugul, traffic seemed
no end. But, it was okay beacuse of the cold
weather.
Bali Farmer
Tegalalang Rice Terraces
BALI INSIDER TIPS!
• Exchange your Philippine peso
to US Dollar at it has a strong
exchange rate to Indonesian
Rupiah.
• Do not forget to huddle prices
of goods and “pasalubong”.
Just ask nicely.
• Traffic in Bali can get worse
every hour so to come to
destination early to avoid the
crowd is better.
• Book a car rental in advance in
Klook.
• Travel slow!
Bali Handara Golf and
Country Club
Your pocket won’t hurt you when you pay
a minimal entrance to Bali’s most beautiful
Handara Gate and take a photo for your
instagram feed. The photogenic nests and swing
in Wanagiri Hidden Hills will never fail you. In
our last night in Bali we checked in an Airbnb
near the airport about 700 meters away for a
discounted rate because we used a coupon code.
Bali is an island that you are definite
to fall in love with. It has something
for everyone- great cuisine, laughing
faces full of joy of the locals, unreal
sunsets, and of course un-BALI-evably
beautiful beaches. One of the best
things about Bali is despite the fact
that the island is totally concentrated
on tourism, but has not lost an inch of
its vibrant culture.
YSA Skin & Body Experts'
RF Contouring &
Muscle Toning
By Lara Toldanes
YSA Skin and Body Experts is reflected as one of the
innovators in aesthetic medicine, well recognized in
the beauty and wellness industry. For more than 20
years in the industry, with a group of certified medical
professionals and well-trained skincare specialists
behind, it has gained a wide array of clienteles
through skin care, body treatments and aesthetic
procedures using state of the art products, machines
and technology.
Being fit is not only to look good but also to feel
good about ourselves. Fat burning has been a time
consuming activity since it’s hard to insert “gym time”
on our hectic schedule between work and quality time
with loved ones. Nonetheless, YSA Skin and Body can
provide us a service that will cater our needs when
it comes to fat burning with the RF Contouring and
Muscle Toning.
RF (Radio/Relax Frequency) mainly focuses on antiaging
and to lessen the fats while the facial contouring
gives an anti-aging benefit. The RF treatment is not
only applicable to the face but also to different areas
such as the tummy, arms, legs, and love handles.
According to Ms. Ricca Marie Arizala, Branch
Supervisor at YSA Skin and Body Experts SM Cherry
Shaw branch, clients usually do the RF treatment in
their tummy.
“Most of the time, the clients' focus is on the tummy.
Then those that are interested sa face naman yun
naman sa anti-aging benefits. Some clients who have
an upcoming event, they do it to contour, iba yung
face pag may contour, visible sa camera,” she said.
The treatment is not invasive, it only uses a machine
with a plate which emits electrons. It burn fats through
heat. The process takes about 20-30 minutes for the
facial area and about 30-40 minutes for the areas
such as tummy, arms, and legs. The outcome will be
visible right after the treatment however YSA’s trained
experts recommend 5-8 sessions for the face and 8-12
sessions for the tummy area for best visible result.
Since the treatment is not invasive, the contouring
can be done for three consecutive days and then
the interval is three to four days. As for the muscle
toning on areas like the tummy, arms, and legs, the
interval is three to four days and a maximum of a
week for a better compliant on the treatment. The RF
treatment for the face is priced at P4, 000 per session;
however, YSA Skin and Body Experts offer promos and
packages every month so that the client can comply
with the treatment.
Although the RF is known in the slimming market, Ms.
Ricca cited how YSA Skin and Body Experts differs
from other aesthetic center, “We are different in the
treatment and the machines. Of course, [on] how we
render our services on our clients.” she stated.
YSA Skin and Body Experts thrives to continue
and deliver quality, proven effective treatments and
products to change lives throughout the country.
Mi-Yong Alliance:
The Pioneer Korean Beauty Academy in the Philippines
By Lord Harvey Monteroso
With all the hype for K-pop and the Korean culture,
nothing has left the Filipinos with a deeper impression
and distinct intrigue than Korean skin care. Tight skin,
clear complexion, and glowing presence that could
put porcelain to shame -- anyone would wonder how
our Korean friends maintain their freshness throughout
the day without looking like they’re even trying. And
let’s face it, there came a point in our lives while
watching our favorite K-Drama and we’ve thought
about what it feels like to have skin like theirs.
Wouldn’t it be nice to look in the mirror and just
swipe through the air and get the best filter? Different
experts have brought up several products and beauty
regimen, and it seems like something new comes up
every week. Beauty clinics with various promotions
keep popping up every now and again saying theirs
are the best techniques. Now the question really is
where did this all begin?
Enter Mi-Yong Alliance -- the pioneer Korean beauty
academy in the country. Its main office in Seoul,
South Korea was founded in 2013. It branched out
to Bangkok, Thailand by the end of 2013, and finally
reached Philippine shores in the 2nd quarter of 2016.
Well known for permanent make-up techniques, MYA
was the one who introduced the now trending BB
Glow (a semi-permanent foundation that makes the
skin glow and would last for months) and Lash Rebirth
in the country. They also have an innovation in the
works where the recipient gets a semi-permanent
blush that could last for 3 months. It’s called BB Glow
Blush, and it’s the first in the world. Talk about taking
the world by storm one blush at a time.
With their other pioneering skin care courses they
have introduced in the country like the 24K gold
therapy, Snow White IV drip, Carbon Therapy, Korean
Permanent Make-up, Micro-pigmentation, Scar and
Stretchmark cover up, and Areola Pigmentation, who
needs a filter now, eh? Their physical academy in
Greenhills accepts students for any of their several
available sessions.
Most people who enroll are either start-up
entrepreneurs and established beauty clinic owners
who plan to add MYA techniques and standards that
are definitely unique. Their reputation within the
beauty industry has been received so well that people
even from Visayas and Mindanao have enrolled in the
academy. Korean skin care has truly found a home
in the country where its people have accepted the
Korean culture with open arms (and pores).
Mi-Yong Alliance believes that skin care is an art
form. And as a form of art, it requires practice and
dedication. Skin care isn’t just about looking good --
it’s about feeling good and knowing how to maintain it.
So now we know where to go to get that one of a kind
Korean freshness. No more looking in the mirror and
wait for the next piso fair just to fly to South Korea just
to get the best Korean skin care experience.
Visit their clinics in Pampanga and Greenhills to
know more about their services and experience their
celebrated treatments first hand. You can also pick
up your phone and check out their training schedules
or clinic details via their Facebook (Mi-Yong Alliance
Philippines) and Instagram (@miyongallianceph).
Little Flour Cafe
Wildflour's Little Sister on the Rise
By Eden Morales of UncoveringEden.com
Little Flour suddenly became my go-to cafe for
the last two days. Though it’s usually flocked with
customers, it’s still my number one choice. Maybe
something about the way the whole cafe is designed
or maybe it has that certain jenesaisquoi—I am so
drawn to it—like a moth to a flame.
The Ensaimada Bread Pudding was the first to
arrive on our mahogany-painted wooden table. The
melting cheese oozed on the sides of the pearly-white
container. We decided to slice it at the same time
on both ends and had a mouthful of this tempting
dessert.
Mango Pavlova
Adobo Rice
It is situated in the lobby of World Plaza, a newly-built
building in Bonifacio Global City. One thing you’d
easily notice is the set of chairs hanging on the ceiling
which serve as their chandeliers.
Near the glass doors and tall windows is a counter
full of their pastries. This automatically puts me in the
mood. It feels like I have walked in on a random French
cafe—wanting to have a baguette for brunch.
The cafe is quirky yet comfy. Various chairs of various
colors hang on the ceiling and below is an industrialtype
setup that adds this somehow Neo-New York
feel. Large couches frame the corners with tall
windows that create a wider illusion of the area. It is
aesthetically ambiguous, it looks so chic.
Ensaimada Bread Pudding
Bicol Express
A spoonful can already make you feel a little full—it’s
that thick! The cream once poured into the mix can
make the ensaimada into a whole new experience.
The mixture of sweet and salty tugs all of the areas
your tastebuds can recognize. They have really
knocked this one out of the park. I can actually
imagine myself eating this every single day as dessert.
For our main meal this lunch time is their Sisig Rice
Bowl. At first, I was a little stoked to see it being
delivered to us. Then I realize, I can’t eat this much.
And that I might have gotten myself into trouble in
ordering such a huge serving for just two people. But
I love a good challenge so I cracked the egg open and
mixed it into the bowl then started eating this large
serving.
This is quite different from all the sisig that I have
tasted. Finally, a sisig that has not a very oily feel
to it. With pieces of chicharon, this meal is a total
powerhouse. As we delved into our conversations, we
unknowingly scooped the bowl until there’s no more
left to cherish. I guess what made me love it so much
is because of its crunchy meat paired with the soft
brown rice. Now, I get the reason why its their famous
dish. Two out of two. Little Flour has really surpassed
my expectations.
My next encounter happened the next evening.
Everything is a lot quieter now. No office rush hour
madness, just us under the softly lit room with subtle
music playing in the background.
Sisig Rice Bowl
I don’t usually eat rice for supper but Little Flour has
gotten me under a spell—to make things short, I gave
in. First meal we ordered for the cold night was this
Bicol Express Bowl. It doesn’t look like the usual dish,
which normally is covered in white coconut sauce.
It however looks like a different Filipino dish called
pinakbet. Maybe it’s a fusion of two and we curiously
tested how it tasted. To our surprise, it tasted so
delicious. The perfect mixture of crispy pork belly,
french beans, eggplant and tomatoes have created
this balance of sourness and saltiness that lingers in
your mouth and your tastebuds will surely crave once
eaten.
It felt we needed one more meal just to celebrate the
week away. We again held the menus and debated
which one to order. In the end, we agreed to order
their Pork Adobo Rice. Once the plate was served,
I initiated to mix the egg onto the rice. There’s
something relaxing when I do this. I am not exactly
certain on what it is. Maybe it’s the aroma or maybe
the colors forming gradually as the ingredients are
mixed in together.
The pork adobo strips are so tender and crisp at the
same time. It’s like eating two different meats, all at
once. The egg added texture and introduced a new
flavor to the mix.
And to top off everything, we ordered one last time.
Mango Pavlova looks a little like Brazo de Mercedes
(another favorite cake variant). Once in your mouth,
bursts of meringue and mango bits explode and give
you this awesome tug of flavors of sour and sweet. In
a matter of five minutes or less, we have devoured the
whole slice of this pure deliciousness.
Over the course of two days and two meals, Little
Flour has definitely won my heart. It has perfected the
trifecta of an astounding restaurant—great location,
great food and great ambiance.
The presence of fame in every eye’s shallow
reach is unsurprisingly blinding. These inviting
glitters create a different version of the existing
flavor, which greatly harries the flow and range. Thus,
entertainment industry is dicey and grandly dramatic.
This August 2018, Village Pipol gives importance
to the confidence and conviction within every bold
representation. In this issue, our cover girl, Sue Ramirez
embodies the truth and the sincerity of spotlights’
riddles in both sides of the parallel.
She is undisguised and relaxed. The beauty of this
22-year-old actress is effortless and unrivaled, mixing
with her unfeigned aura within the confines of delightful
showcase.
She is fearless but excites with the gentle nature.
“I’m a daughter, ako’y kapatid, ako’y kaibigan. Si Sue
'pag nakikita niyo sa TV doon lang po ako artista, pero
‘pag wala na po ako sa TV, I’m just my normal self lang,”
she firmly pronounced.
Being part of the industry where survival plays within
the grasp, Sue impressively connects in bare and smooth
panning. Nevertheless, she stands out in the sphere of
pure competition and rare applause through daring stir
of the current formula.
“I am trying to get through life like everybody else.
Ang gusto ko lang sana is for people to understand that
pare-pareho lang tayo, the only difference is you see us
on TV and the job itself,” she said.
She is authentic and finely exquisite. She personifies the
dazzling beauty and liberating characteristics of a true
empowered woman.
There’s nothing more authentic than a person who
celebrates good things and understands the bad things.
Unlike any other actress of her age, Sue is confident
in her own skin and appreciates her flaws in complete
sheer.
sabihing hindi tayo affected sa negative
comments, but sometimes we are. I’m not affected
“Mahirap
in the sense of what they say against me. It’s
just, nalulungkot ako sa fact na bakit nila yun sinasabi,” she
confessed.
“So more than being affected of what they say against me,
I’m affected of what the world has become because of social
media,” she continued.
Ultimately, Sue is artless and unbreakable.
On the other hand, Sue is set to star on the upcoming film
Ang Babaeng Allergic Sa Wifi, which is an official entry to
this year’s Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino. The said film festival
features eight local films, which are scheduled to run in
cinemas from August 15-21.
Can you describe you role in the movie “Ang
Babaeng Allergic Sa WiFi?”
I’m Norma. I’m a normal teenager who’s like
everyone naman, typical millennial, mahilig
mag-social media, mahilig mag-internet and
one day she wakes up knowing she can’t be
on the internet anymore. It turns out she has
this rare disease called EHS Syndrome (Electro
Hypermagnetic Sensitivity), so allergic siya sa
lahat ng may radiation. So kahit anong may
radiation, laptops, cell phones, especially Wi-Fi
off course. So eto yung journey ni Norma, na
how to go through life without social media,
without internet and just living her life with just
the people who really matter to her.
So what are your preparations for your role in
the movie?
It was actually pretty hard for me to channel my
inner Norma, she’s very sweet and I’m kinda not
sweet. Hindi ako sweet pero super sweet lang
talaga siya so medyo nahirapan ako sa part na
‘yun kasi medyo edgy ako, medyo boyish talaga
yung personality ko. So, sometimes Direk would
have to cut and tell me na “Sue, mas sweet
pa” and sobrang sweet na nung ginawa ko,
hindi ko na alam kung pano ko pa patatamisin
yung eksena. So with the help of Direk Jun off
course, naitawid naman namin yung pelikulang
na maganda.
How do you differentiate your role as Norma
to other roles that you have portrayed?
It’s very very different actually. Norma is
super millennial like she just take pictures
of everything, she likes to document her
memories kasi, not naman for likes but she just
like keeping memories talaga. Iyong ibang roles
ko siguro, I don’t know, title pa lang ng movie
eh it’s really very different talaga and sino bang
makakaisip nun diba? So ayun, siguro that’s
what makes it different – I’m a girl allergic to
Wi-Fi.
What is your message to your generation
in regards to the usage of internet specially
social media?
I think if you’re gonna start using social media,
you should accept that there are different
opinions. Ang tama para sa akin ay para sa
'kin lang, yung tama sayo ay para sayo lang
and hindi natin pwede yon ipilit sa isa’t-isa.
I think what we should do is we should talk
about something that we can – we should find
a common ground siguro so we can just talk
about things na mapagkakasunduan natin
instead of just you know, going on debates
and fighting online about things that we don’t
get along with. Maghanap na lang tayo ng
mapagkakasunduan kesa mapag-aawayan.
What is your biggest challenge in portraying
Norma?
It’s trying to be super involved with social
media siguro. Kase ako syempre kelangan natin
maging active online for my work kasi that’s
how I connect with the people who follow
me. I have to keep in touch with them din but
siguro feeling ko kung hindi ako artista, hindi
ako masyadong mahilig mag-social media. I’m
more of the – I actually hate it when my friends
are on their phones when we eat out, even my
family, I hate it super talaga. So siguro yun,
Norma’s super into social media, ako hindi
masyado siguro.
How was it working with award winning
director Jun Robles Lana?
“Oh my God, he’s amazing. Wala akong masabi.
I’m actually so honored to be working with him
and sobrang honored din ako kase sa dami
ng magagaling na artista ako yung pinili niya
to play Norma. I’ve learned a lot from him,
he’s very professional. Super bait ni Direk Jun
and wala akong masabi, ang galing niya lang
talaga. Hindi na tayo magtataka kung bakit siya
award-winning kasi nung naka-trabaho ko siya
talagang hands-on.
In this day and age newbie stars are joining
the show business, in your opinion, what
makes you stand out from the rest of them?
Siguro, I’m very real - actually lahat naman
siguro ng mga bagong artista. There’s this one
thing about them that makes them stand out, 'di
ba meron tayong something na mas magaling
tayo kesa sa iba. I can’t say it for myself but
I think lang maybe, it’s my way with getting
along with people. It’s not only yung galing mo
eh, being in the industry is not only if you’re
good, you’re amazing at acting, I think it’s more
important that you know how to mingle, siguro
yung pakikisama. As much as I can I try to get
along with everybody not only my co-actors but
everyone talaga behind the cameras. Actually
yun ang kailangan, pakikisama siguro.
Speaking of pakikisama, how do you interact
with you fans?
Actually, I’m really good friends with my fans.
Sinusubukan kong kilalanin talaga sila isa’t-isa,
to know their family, to know what they are
going through. Siguro 'pag dumadating na yung
point na yun, hindi na nila naiisip na maging
intrusive with me kasi they don’t treat me na as
an idol, they treat me na as one of them. Parang
barkada na kami, so they can come up to me
anytime na kailangan nila ng kausap or if they
have problems that I can help them with, hindi
na sila nag-aalinlangan to talk to me.
“SUE'S MESSAGE TO
HER FANS:
“I hope I make them happy. Everything
I have people who love me like they do.
that I do, not only for myself, not only
for my family especially ginagawa ko din
yun para sa kanila. I’m very thankful that
Yun lang masaya lang ako na madaming
sumusuporta sa akin kahit na- siyempre
hindi naman tayo mga perfect na tao and
may mga nagtatanggol sa akin against
people saying bad things about me so
masaya siya – parang fulfillment siya na
may mga taong nagmamahal sayo.”
A
story is not is a good story without
the sass and the spice that a villain
is incorporating. Even though
this character receives hate and despise
from the viewers, it only proves that they
have given justice to the characters that
they are portraying. What adds flavor to
the protagonist is the struggles that the
Philippine
Designers
Gala 2018
A Diversity of Showcase
By Francesca Santos
As the future unfolds, more Filipino
designers paved their way into the
Fashion Industry, whether the designs
are classy or edgy, there’s no mistake that
Filipino designers possess a true eye for
fashion. This year, the new generation of
Filipino designers all around the Philippines
have gathered for the most magnificent fashion
event, the Philippine Designers Gala 2018.
The Philippine Designers Gala 2018 has set
their way to give adequate exposure to young
talented fashion designers and internationally
recognized designers. It created a networking
channel between the established designers,
fashion journalists and enthusiast, trendsetter
and consumers.
The highlight of the event was the diversity
when it comes to the fashion style of every
designer’s showcase. As the event slipped
through our eyes, we have gathered the three
best collections that will surely sweep you off
of your feet:
EP. 03 LOVE on the
BRAIN Collection
A collection that tells a story of a woman who
fell utterly, madly in love; and as a result, it blurs
her reasoning and judgement. It presents an
unapologetic and unorthodox interpretation of
love, from being purely untainted, to slowly being
consumed by its passion and finally yielding to its
frenzied sentiment.
A mix of elegancy and craziness, his collection
stands out from the rest. Being hard working,
dedicated and passionate is what keeps his
collection very unique from others, from a pure
outlook to the first piece with a bang of craziness
to the last.
“In the fashion industry you should work hard, have
determination and passion. Because if you are very
hard working and passionate about what you’re
doing, you will succeed,” Ron shared.
details that won’t sacrifice the fairy tale effect.
A modern-vintage collection that tells a story of
sacrifice, dedication and hard work; a collection
that is all about elegance within reach.
“Kung gusto niyo talagang gumawa ng mga
damit, kailangan eager kayo to learn, accept
criticisms from other designers because
makakatulong iyon sa inyo to become a better
designer, 'wag kayong mag-alinlangan,” Jan
Louie stated.
Ralphie Joseph
MNL Collection
Ralphie’s collection is provocative and has a
figure flattering design.
With delicate accentuation of embroidery and
silhouette patterns, it made this gowns more
ostentatiously extravagant. The collection is
inspired by clothing of Miss Earth - Air 2017, Kim
De Guzman. Ralphie created a collection for
the gala that shows more femininity and class
that can represent the country in prestigious
pageants. A mix of see-through and mesh
fabrics that makes the gowns comfortable to
wear without compromising the elegance and
class.
Ralphie stressed out that creativity is a natural
thing that every person has. In order to achieve
what you want, you must be eager to learn, you
must find your own time and your own pace.
“Creativity is something that is innate to all
of us, you just have to learn, find your time
and find your own pace and you’ll get through
everything with your goals,” he emphasized.
The Spy Who
Dumped Me
A Laugh-Out-Loud Funny, Action-Packed
Homage To Spy Films By Sylvester Sy
eally funny comedies are hard to come by
these days, but Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon
Rarrive to save the day this August in the movie
“The Spy Who Dumped Me.” The pair are getting
intertwined in a bit of old fashioned espionage, and it
looks like we're in for some good laughs.
Even though the story kicks off with a breakup,
viewers should know upfront that this is not a love
story. The two BFFs are the main relationship in this
movie.
The Spy Who Dumped Me follows two thirty-year-old
best friends in Los Angeles Audrey (Mila Kunis) and
Morgan (Kate McKinnon), who unwittingly become
entangled in an international conspiracy when Audrey
has recently been dumped by her boyfriend. As if
things aren’t bad enough, it turns out her ex Drew,
played by Justin Theroux who is a CIA agent shows up
at her apartment with deadly assassins on his trail.
Since Audrey and her BFF Morgan have become
targets as well, the duo unwittingly jump into action
and decided to help Drew by delivering a package. As
they head for Europe, a group of lethal assassins give
chase. The girls get intertwined in an international
conspiracy that involves crazy car chase, gun fights
and explosions as the pair try to save lives, and their
own.
The film is a loose parody of the Austin Powers film
:The Spy Who Shagged Me," which was itself a parody
of the 1977 James Bond film "The Spy Who Loved Me"
with a female protagonist.
The female centric movie aims to show that you don't
have to be a superhero or an actual spy to stop bad
guys. If you like a not so serious spy movies then The
Spy Who Dumped Me is perfect for you.
The Spy Who Dumped Me is directed by Susanna
Fogel and stars Mila Kunis, Kate McKinnon, Sam
Heughan and Gillian Anderson. The film was released
last August 1 in local cinemas.
Alexander Soltes
a.k.a. Lil Savage
Meet Half-Pinoy Jiu Jitsu Champion
By Karla Mae Domingo
Small but terrible, would be the most cliché yet the
most accurate phrase that describes 11-year-Filipino-
Canadian Jiu Jitsu champion Alexander Soltes,
popularly known as ‘Lil Savage.’
It was in 2015 that he had fallen deeply in love with
the sport when he decided to sign up for Brazilian Jiu
Jitsu in October. Since then, he balances school with
training, gaining more and more confidence and skill
developments. On a rainy day, you can also find the
young boy tending to his other interests: soccer, golf,
and video games.
Alex’s dedication for Jiu Jitsu has already led him to
places. Currently, he represents Academix Academy
in Burlington, Ontario, under the tutelage of Professor
Dan Hale, under the Cobrinha and Alliance affiliation.
As early as 2016, he started bagging recognitions after
recognitions on various competitions around their
state.
Through the years, the shelves of Alex’s home
now have piled shelves of bronze to gold medals.
Something that the young boy’s parents hold as pride.
In an exclusive interview with Village Pipol, Alex’s
proud parents Jon and Sabrina Soltes, shared how
they adore him and how his supporters do as well.
“Alex has always been a loving, caring, and
compassionate boy and that has carried over into
his Jiu Jitsu,” Sabrina recalled. “He is the smartest,
funniest, straight shooter you will ever meet.”
His parents both attributed Alex’s success to his
charming attitude paired with impeccable discipline
for sportsmanship. However, they admit they couldn’t
dismiss the struggles they’ve been through before
getting to where they are right now.
According to Jon, they’ve encountered financial
problems and have allotted a great part of their time
for Alex’s sport and passion. “Ensuring we maintain a
balance of Alex’s training, school and just being a kid.
At the end of the day, all that matters is he’s enjoying
his journey.”
At the end of the day, Jon and Sabrina like all other
parents, wishes the best for their child. They agree
that there are values Alex still needs to learn and they
make sure to be there every step of the way. The most
important advice they want to impart for Alex is to
always be humble in his wins and learn from his loses.
Lil Savage most recent win was on June 23 at the
Canadian Jiu Jitsu Nationals where he finished
earning the Gold.
