The Spy Who
Dumped Me
A Laugh-Out-Loud Funny, Action-Packed
Homage To Spy Films By Sylvester Sy
eally funny comedies are hard to come by
these days, but Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon
Rarrive to save the day this August in the movie
“The Spy Who Dumped Me.” The pair are getting
intertwined in a bit of old fashioned espionage, and it
looks like we're in for some good laughs.
Even though the story kicks off with a breakup,
viewers should know upfront that this is not a love
story. The two BFFs are the main relationship in this
movie.
The Spy Who Dumped Me follows two thirty-year-old
best friends in Los Angeles Audrey (Mila Kunis) and
Morgan (Kate McKinnon), who unwittingly become
entangled in an international conspiracy when Audrey
has recently been dumped by her boyfriend. As if
things aren’t bad enough, it turns out her ex Drew,
played by Justin Theroux who is a CIA agent shows up
at her apartment with deadly assassins on his trail.
Since Audrey and her BFF Morgan have become
targets as well, the duo unwittingly jump into action
and decided to help Drew by delivering a package. As
they head for Europe, a group of lethal assassins give
chase. The girls get intertwined in an international
conspiracy that involves crazy car chase, gun fights
and explosions as the pair try to save lives, and their
own.
The film is a loose parody of the Austin Powers film
:The Spy Who Shagged Me," which was itself a parody
of the 1977 James Bond film "The Spy Who Loved Me"
with a female protagonist.
The female centric movie aims to show that you don't
have to be a superhero or an actual spy to stop bad
guys. If you like a not so serious spy movies then The
Spy Who Dumped Me is perfect for you.
The Spy Who Dumped Me is directed by Susanna
Fogel and stars Mila Kunis, Kate McKinnon, Sam
Heughan and Gillian Anderson. The film was released
last August 1 in local cinemas.
Alexander Soltes
a.k.a. Lil Savage
Meet Half-Pinoy Jiu Jitsu Champion
By Karla Mae Domingo
Small but terrible, would be the most cliché yet the
most accurate phrase that describes 11-year-Filipino-
Canadian Jiu Jitsu champion Alexander Soltes,
popularly known as ‘Lil Savage.’
It was in 2015 that he had fallen deeply in love with
the sport when he decided to sign up for Brazilian Jiu
Jitsu in October. Since then, he balances school with
training, gaining more and more confidence and skill
developments. On a rainy day, you can also find the
young boy tending to his other interests: soccer, golf,
and video games.
Alex’s dedication for Jiu Jitsu has already led him to
places. Currently, he represents Academix Academy
in Burlington, Ontario, under the tutelage of Professor
Dan Hale, under the Cobrinha and Alliance affiliation.
As early as 2016, he started bagging recognitions after
recognitions on various competitions around their
state.
Through the years, the shelves of Alex’s home
now have piled shelves of bronze to gold medals.
Something that the young boy’s parents hold as pride.
In an exclusive interview with Village Pipol, Alex’s
proud parents Jon and Sabrina Soltes, shared how
they adore him and how his supporters do as well.
“Alex has always been a loving, caring, and
compassionate boy and that has carried over into
his Jiu Jitsu,” Sabrina recalled. “He is the smartest,
funniest, straight shooter you will ever meet.”
His parents both attributed Alex’s success to his
charming attitude paired with impeccable discipline
for sportsmanship. However, they admit they couldn’t
dismiss the struggles they’ve been through before
getting to where they are right now.
According to Jon, they’ve encountered financial
problems and have allotted a great part of their time
for Alex’s sport and passion. “Ensuring we maintain a
balance of Alex’s training, school and just being a kid.
At the end of the day, all that matters is he’s enjoying
his journey.”
At the end of the day, Jon and Sabrina like all other
parents, wishes the best for their child. They agree
that there are values Alex still needs to learn and they
make sure to be there every step of the way. The most
important advice they want to impart for Alex is to
always be humble in his wins and learn from his loses.
Lil Savage most recent win was on June 23 at the
Canadian Jiu Jitsu Nationals where he finished
earning the Gold.
