Why we stopped exports from
Calabar—C/River shippers boss

Ogodo, has blamed
stoppage of export through
Calabar port on the
absence of shipping lines
at the port.
In an interview with
Vanguard, Ogodo
explained that though they
still export cashew nuts and
other items, they have to
first move such goods to
Lagos where the
consignments are shipped
out.
He added that former
governor of Cross River
State, Mr Donald Duke,
when in power, initiated
the development of
TINAPA, which was a very
big project and at the same
time there was the Lafarge
project.
According to the SACRS
boss, “when Duke came
into office, he initiated the
development of TINAPA,
which was a very big
project and at the same time
there was the Lafarge
project. So, those two
projects were going on side
by side in Calabar and that
attracted Maersk Line to
Calabar port every two
weeks. It was bringing in
imports for those projects.
“By the time Duke left
and Liyel Imoke came into
office, of course TINAPA
project had been
completed and Lafarge was
almost done and Maersk
Line gave us notice that in
six months, they would be
leaving, that they were no
longer going to make these
calls.
“So, we cried to Liyel to
help us talk to the people
to make it monthly instead
of a fortnight ship calls. So,
Maersk Line came, we had
meeting with the governor
and they told the governor
that they were going to stop,
that they had enough
export from Calabar but not
enough to bring in to
Calabar.”
Ex-party chairman, exco members, others
dump APC for PPA in Delta

the state, Chief Felix Ekure;
other executive members
and party chieftains, have
dumped the party for
Peoples Progressive
Alliance, PPA.
Ekure, who addressed
newsmen in Agbarha-Otor,
Ughelli North, said he left
the party with his people
because they had seen
light on the other side of the
tunnel, adding that he was
not interested in
condemning Great
Ogboru, Ovie Omo-Agege
or Otega Emerhor over
their leadership tussle, but
reminded them that no
house divided against itself
can stand.
Assuring his people that
come 2019, they would
liberate Delta State from
further impoverishment
and shackles of bad
leadership, Ekure said it
takes a greater mind to key
into the prophesy of God,
pointing out that they have
seen Dr. O’diakpor Obire as
the Abraham that will
liberate Delta State.
Ekure noted that Obire
victory, come 2019, will
come like that of the former
Delta State governor, Chief
James Ibori, in 1999, who
amidst doubts, attained the
number one seat of Delta
State at a tender age until
he assumed the exalted
position of the number one
citizen of the state.
Receiving the former APC
chairman, Ekure and other
party chieftains to PPA, the
state chairman of the party,
Chief Fred Obi, said more
people were joining PPA
because they had seen
their governorship aspirant,
Dr. Obire, as a new brand
and a sellable one.

diligent and committed in
every programme of the
scheme.”

State’s support to the
programme without which
he said the successes
recorded at the camp would
have been impossible.
Ndokwa East councillors endorse Okowa, Osanebi

endorsed Governor Ifeanyi
Okowa for second term and
Deputy Speaker of Delta State
House of Assembly, Mr Friday
Osanebi, for third term in
office.
The motion for the
endorsement was moved by
Emmanuel Emiri ( Ward 7)
and seconded by Friday
Edemaya (Ward 6).
Reacting to what Emiri
called a supersonic motion,
members took turns to make
contributions from their
personal experiences and how
Okowa and Osanebi had
impacted Ndokwa people
and Deltans at large.
Leading debate on the
motion, Majority Leader of the
House, Prince Okwokwo, said
the combination of the two
leaders was divine and a
perfect match, to effect the
transformation and prosperity
of Deltans at this material time.
He noted that the prosperity
gospel of Okowa had been
adequately propagated to the
people of Ndokwa East, with
practical examples due to the
mediation and sacrifices of the

We must open our party
secretariat despite
vandalisation, Abe insists

PORT HARCOURT—A
governorship aspirant of
All Progressives Congress,
APC, in Rivers State, Sen.
Magnus Abe, has said
despite the vandalisation of
the new secretariat of his
party by suspected APC
hoodlums last Saturday, that
it will not stop its official
opening ceremony.
Abe, who represents Rivers
South-East senatorial district
in the National Assembly,
also called on the Inspector-
General of Police, Ibrahim
Idris, to investigate the attack
on the new party secretariat
and bring the perpetrators to
book.
Abe in a statement,
yesterday, in Port Harcourt by
his spokesman, Parry Benson,
after a special prayer session
organised by women of his
district at Bori, headquarters
of Khana Local Government
Area of the state, said: “Let
me say very clearly that today,
some people attacked the
new party office that the party
was trying to open on Aba
Road, Port Harcourt.
“The whole idea of bringing
guns into politics is to
intimidate people, create fear
in your mind, make you think
that no matter how many you
are, with one gun, they are
more than you. That is the
message they want to send.
“But let me stand here,
before God Almighty and
respond to them and let me
also say that when we don’t
carry guns, it is not because
we don’t know where guns
are. I have said it before, that
I buy computers for students
because that is what I give
my own children."

Lawmaker bags award, as

Patani/Bomadi Constituency
in Delta State House of
Assembly, Mr. Nicholas
Mutu, has been awarded an
honorary title on road
construction and human
empowerment in rural
communities in his
constituency by People
Democratic Party, PDP,
Bomadi Local Government
Area chairman, Mr Prince
Opuofoni.
Giving the honorary title
during a consultative visit of
the lawmaker to the party at
Bomadi, headquarters of
Bomadi council, Opuofoni
said the title was well
deserved.
He noted that considering
the lawmaker’s
developmental efforts for his
constituency over the years,
the party was 100 per cent
ready to return him
unopposed to the House of
Representatives in 2019.

Mutu as an outstanding

In his response, Mutu said
