Lagos demolishes illegal nine-s<strong>to</strong>rey building in Lekki<br />

demolished a nines<strong>to</strong>rey<br />

building at Osapa<br />

L<strong>on</strong>d<strong>on</strong> in Lekki area of<br />

Lagos for allegedly<br />

c<strong>on</strong>travening building<br />

plan regulati<strong>on</strong>s.<br />

The General Manager<br />

of the Agency, Mr.<br />

Olalekan Shodehinde,<br />

said the demoliti<strong>on</strong> w<strong>as</strong><br />

also because the<br />

building had no certified<br />

plan approval.<br />

Shodehinde said the<br />

building w<strong>as</strong> detected in<br />

2017, following which an<br />

investigati<strong>on</strong> w<strong>as</strong> launched,<br />

stressing that the<br />

building had nine floors,<br />

while the m<strong>as</strong>ter plan of<br />

Osapa, the area it w<strong>as</strong><br />

situated, <strong>on</strong>ly allows for<br />

a maximum of four<br />

floors.<br />

According <strong>to</strong> Shodehinde,<br />

the structural<br />

stability of the soil could<br />

not carry such a highrise<br />

structure, adding<br />

that the state<br />

government had given<br />

approval or order for the<br />

building <strong>to</strong> be pulled<br />

down.<br />

He noted that the<br />

exercise w<strong>as</strong> being<br />

carried out <strong>to</strong> curb the<br />

incidents of incessant<br />

building collapse in the<br />

state, pointing out that<br />

the state government<br />

would not fold its arms<br />

Rao disclosed this at the inaugurati<strong>on</strong><br />

of two additi<strong>on</strong>al ultra modern exclusive<br />

tile showrooms <strong>to</strong> the network of<br />

Royal Exclusive Showrooms in Aba and<br />

PortHarCourt recently.<br />

The launch of the showrooms in Port<br />

Harcourt and Aba marks respectively<br />

the 10th and the 11th showrooms in a<br />

roll since the company rolled out the<br />

Royal Exclusive Showroom initiative, a<br />

strategic manufacturer-dealer partnership<br />

framework that h<strong>as</strong> seen the setting<br />

up of several showrooms in major<br />

commercial cities across the country<br />

which includes Kano, N<strong>as</strong>sarawa, Jos,<br />

Osogbo, Enugu, Lagos, Abuja and<br />

most recently Port Harcourt and Aba.<br />

According <strong>to</strong> the General Manager,<br />

in Port Harcourt, the company partnered<br />

with Marchambers Int’l Co. Ltd.,<br />

a major building material dealership<br />

located al<strong>on</strong>g the stretch of E<strong>as</strong>t-West<br />

Road in Rumuigbo while S. Nnadi<br />

Commercial Ent. Nig. Ltd., courted with<br />

the company <strong>to</strong> set up the showroom<br />

al<strong>on</strong>g Faulks Road in Aba, Abia state.<br />

He revealed that the partnership<br />

which aims <strong>to</strong> support government’s efforts<br />

in reviving the manufacturing sec<strong>to</strong>r<br />

and encourage patr<strong>on</strong>age of locally<br />

produced goods, would afford builders,<br />

project owners and other professi<strong>on</strong>al<br />

stake<strong>hold</strong>ers in the housing sec<strong>to</strong>r the<br />

opportunity <strong>to</strong> reduce risk, lower the<br />

and allow loss of lives<br />

and destructi<strong>on</strong> of<br />

property.<br />

Shodehinde who said<br />

several notices had been<br />

served <strong>on</strong> the owner of<br />

the structure, but<br />

allegedly failed <strong>to</strong><br />

comply with the order,<br />

said “Though, the<br />

building does not have<br />

approval plan, what we<br />

are talking about goes<br />

bey<strong>on</strong>d approval plan,<br />

because if the developer<br />

applied for approval of<br />

nine floors in the area, it<br />

would not have been<br />

granted.<br />

“When LABSCA<br />

discovered the building<br />

in 2017, a S<strong>to</strong>p Order<br />

Notice w<strong>as</strong> served. In<br />

Oc<strong>to</strong>ber of the same<br />

year, when it w<strong>as</strong> at its<br />

fifth floors, the agency<br />

cost of projects and enjoy a <strong>on</strong>e-s<strong>to</strong>p<br />

shop experience of tile applicati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

through the showrooms which also<br />

serve <strong>as</strong> experience centres bey<strong>on</strong>d sales<br />

outlets.<br />

“The Royal Exclusive Showroom initiative<br />

is a resp<strong>on</strong>se <strong>to</strong> support government’s<br />

efforts in resuscitating local producti<strong>on</strong><br />

through effective distributi<strong>on</strong><br />

network <strong>to</strong> ensure that products are<br />

available at the right time, right place,<br />

and at the right price.<br />

“It also ensures the delivery of the<br />

products in a way that encourages the<br />

c<strong>on</strong>sumer <strong>to</strong> cultivate and sustain the<br />

‘Buy Nigeria’ behaviour because they<br />

do not just buy the products but the collective<br />

experiences of product quality,<br />

affordability, reliability, product knowledge<br />

and applicati<strong>on</strong> <strong>as</strong> well <strong>as</strong> unmatched<br />

Once an illegal<br />

building h<strong>as</strong> been<br />

demolished by the<br />

government, the<br />

owner would be<br />

given 90 days <strong>to</strong> pay<br />

the demoliti<strong>on</strong> cost,<br />

failure <strong>to</strong> do so means<br />

the government<br />

would c<strong>on</strong>fiscate the<br />

landed property”,<br />

LASBCA GM stated.<br />

campaign. He called <strong>on</strong> architects, builders,<br />

experience the various tile applicati<strong>on</strong>s. He<br />

said that the showroom is equipped with applicati<strong>on</strong><br />
