Discover the diverse regions of Switzerland on this 8-day
Grand Train Tour of Switzerland. It’s a great opportunity to
visit the very best of Switzerland on some of the most exciting
scenic trains.
ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival Lucerne
Individual arrival to Lucerne by train (included).
Lucerne, the gateway to central Switzerland,
sited on Lake Lucerne, is embedded
within an impressive mountainous panorama.
Overnight in Lucerne.
Day 2: Lucerne – Interlaken
(GoldenPass Line)
Today’s journey takes you over the Brünigpass
into the Bernese Oberland and passing Lake
Brienz. Interlaken lies in the Bernese Oberland
on an alluvial plain, between Lake Thun and
Lake Brienz. The vacation destination, which
is presided over by the three mighty mountains,
Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, is the starting
point for numerous activities. Overnight
in Interlaken.
Day 3: Jungfraujoch/Interlaken – Montreux
(Golden Pass Line)
Excursion to the Jungfraujoch, which is the
highest railway station in Europe at 3454 m.
Enjoy some breath-taking views of the Aletsch
Glacier. In the early evening journey on the
GoldenPass Line. Along the shores of Lake
Thun your journey takes you through wild and
romantic landscapes and scenic villages before
the panoramic view of Lake Geneva and
Montreux opens in front of you. Overnight
in Montreux.
Day 4: Montreux – Zermatt/Brig
Board the train in Montreux and make your
way to Zermatt/Brig. The rest of the day is
at your disposal. Zermatt lies at the foot of
the Matterhorn. The destination is a car-free
zone, has preserved its original character and
offers nearly unlimited possibilities as far as
excursions are concerned.The town of Brig
with its historic old quarter and the Stockalper
Palace lies in the sunny Upper Valais at the
foot of the Simplonpass. It is close to hiking
and ski regions and it also has its own thermal
baths, making it an attractive holiday resort.
Overnight in Zermatt or Brig.
Day 5: Zermatt/Brig – Chur (Glacier Express)
In the morning you take the world famous
Glacier Express for a thrilling ride in the panorama
carriage to Chur. Along the deep Rhone
valley, the Glacier Express travels through an
incredibly fascinating part of the Alps. The
train drives on over the Oberalp pass (2033 m)
and through the impressive Rhine gorge. Switzerland’s
oldest city Chur charms visitors with
its fine mountain setting, twisting alleys and
historic buildings. Numerous boutiques, restaurants,
bars, museums and galleries in the
largely traffic-free Old Town create a Mediterranean-style
atmosphere. Overnight in Chur.
Day 6: Chur – Tirano – Chur
(Bernina Express)
Board the narrow-gauge Bernina Express and
travel over circular viaducts and pass through
winding tunnels before reaching Tirano in Italy
which is the end of the Bernina Express
rail line. Have a quick lunch before taking the
Bernina Express back to Chur. Overnight in
Chur.
