What it all means<br />
IGTV: a new app embedded within Instagram for<br />
watching long-form videos by other Instagrammers.<br />
Influencer: when a user has a large enough<br />
follower-base they can be sponsored by brands to<br />
promote their products, with the idea that they<br />
will influence their followers to buy them. The most<br />
successful influencers earn £ thousands per post.<br />
Instagram Stories/ Snapchat - My Story:<br />
users can link snaps or video clips together<br />
and instantly broadcast them. These are collated<br />
into a ‘story’ and appear to followers in a<br />
slideshow format. The story can then be viewed<br />
for up to 24 hours, after which it will vanish.<br />
Snapstreak: if a Snapchat user and friend/s<br />
have snapped each other within 24 hours for<br />
more than one consecutive day, they are said to<br />
be on a ‘streak’. Friends to compete for the top<br />
number of streaks; this can lead to obsession<br />
and meltdowns when streaks are broken.<br />
Snap Map: this feature tracks a Snapchat user’s<br />
location so that friends can find each other on<br />
a map. Each user creates their own ‘bitmoji’<br />
(a cartoon avatar) which makes them easy to<br />
spot. Users can disable the location tracker<br />
by updating their settings to ‘Ghost Mode’.<br />
