Breathtaking Vienna
After a couple of days in Prague, we move to Vienna by train arriving
in 4 hours to our cool hostel full of students and tourists from all over
the world.
Old world opulence mixed with modern sensibilities, that’s how I can
describe Vienna. While Prague was as dreamy as a fairy tale, Vienna
will show you how the royals lived back in the day with their endless
gardens, magnificent palaces and gothic style cathedrals.
All over the city, you see these buildings with gargoyles guarding
them, in here the devil was indeed in the details. As I was researching
for this trip, I knew I wanted to learn and be immersed in the past
and Vienna did not disappoint. Must see places are the Schönbrunn
palace, Stephansdom Cathedral and the Belvedere Palace.
The Schönbrunn Palace, is the top tourist
attraction in the city for good reason. This
summer baroque style palace is over 300
years old, and to say it is expansive is an
understatement.
Prague among other thing is
world famous for their beer, they
actually have the highest beer
consumption per capita in the
world, while I didn’t get to try all
of their beer, I was able to enjoy
one called Staropramen, and for
us Filipinos who love our SMBs,
this was a definite contender.
For the hippies out there who love a good
photo opportunity, check out the John
Lennon Wall. The wall is full of graffiti
dedicated to the famous artist and it the art
has been changing since 1988.
If you don’t have much time in your trip, Prague is highly
recommended as all notable landmarks are within walking distance
and transportation isn’t an issue with the tram and su`bway working
till late night.
Over the years, I have come to appreciate
architecture, especially places of worship
whether catholic or not. If you are like me,
the Stephansdom Cathedral, is a place to
see when in the city.
