Optional excursions for a extra day in Colca valley
Spend a day with a villager
The tour is designed for people who have an
extra full day in the Colca valley and would like to
spend it together with the locals and actively
share their daily life.
A Coporaque villager will take you to his home
and together the day-work will be planned. We
cannot exactly define what this day will look like
as it depends on the season and weekday.
However, the normal activities run among others
from support in the fields, herding animals, the
preparation of land for sowing, or harvesting.
This experience includes lunch with your host
family, whose main dishes are prepared with the
local products such as Qunioa (Inca rice), potato,
Oca, or rice. For your comfort the meal is
prepared with attention to hygienic conditions.
After lunch you and your hosts will visit the
natural hot springs of Coporaque, which are
regularly used by the people of the village. On
the afternoon your host will accompany you on
your way back to your hotel in Chivy town or
Coporaque.
Please note: Local people do not speak English,
so be prepared to use at least some Spanish
words along with your hands or to request a
guide for translation (extra cost).
Spend half day with a villager
Optional visit for a ½ day to a local family in
Coporaque. Free of charge for clients lodging at
Mamayacchi Lodge (Program Colca 3d/2n). For
clients staying out of Coporaque town, this visit
will have an extra charge (Costs of taxis service
from your hotel to Coporaque town).
Hike from Coporaque to Uyo Uyo.
Duration: 3 ½ hrs.
On this walk we pass through two archaeological
sites; Yuracaca (a pre-Inca cemetery from over
900 years ago) and San Antonio (an old
Collahua community). On the way we reach a
small gorge where we observe the various types
of plants, shrubs and cactuses and have beautiful
views of Yanque town. Heading forward we
arrive at Uyo Uyo, well preserved remains of a
place that was originally a Collahua village dating
back between 900 and 1000 years. The terrain
is a little bit hilly in some parts, but the trail is
kept in a good condition by the daily walk of the
locals. After the tour we will drive you to Chivay
or Coporaque town for lunch (lunch not
included)
Short hike from Canocota to
La Calera. Duration: 2 ½ to 3 hrs.
You are picked up from your hotel for the drive
to the Canacota village (3,550 m), where we will
start our hike. During the walk we will appreciate
a small Canyon, and later on –when we walk in
parallel to the Colca River- we can observe a
colorful variety of plants, shrubs, cactuses and
birds. With some luck we might even see the
“Giant hummingbird”. At the end of the tour we
will stop by the Calera hot springs to relax during
an enjoyable bath.
This hike will give you the opportunity to
become more familiar with the lifestyle of the
Colca-people, local products and to learn some
interesting facts about the formation of the
Colca Canyon. Please note: from the Calera hot
springs there is no transfer to the hotel included!
