The ex-capital of the Inca Empire is the gateway to the imperial city of
Machu Picchu and the Sacred valley.
Cusco is one of the undisputed highlights of South America and looks
and feels like the very good definition of an Andean capital.
This city it's a fascinating blend of pre-Columbian and colonial history
and contemporary mestizo culture. The Incas made Q'osqo (meaning
"navel of the world" in Quechua) the political, military, and cultural
center of their empire, which stretched up and down the Andes, from
Ecuador through Bolivia and all the way to Chile.
Cuzco offers to all its visitors not only Machupicchu citadel, but typical
Andean countryside dotted with villages, high altitude hamlets,
traditional rituals and festivals, trekking for one to ten days and
majestic ruins on unexpected places.
In 1983 Cusco was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It has
become a major tourist destination in Peru and South America nad
our Constitution designates it as the Historical Capital of Peru.
