TREEFEST 2017 — WITH THANKS
DURING A SUNDAY EUCHARIST
SERVICE in February a cheque
was presented by Revd Dan Tyndall
to Lee Williams, CEO of Young Bristol.
In introducing the presentation, John
Viney, of the Treefest Committee,
said, “Treefest 2017 was a fantastic
success — more decorated trees,
more visitors and more donations.
Many thanks to the hardworking
Treefest committee, with particular
thanks to Marcus Ashman, who is
standing down as the Chair of our
committee, for his guidance over
past years. Thanks also to the hardworking
team providing tea, coffee
and cakes during Treefest week, to
the Day Managers, their Stewards,
the SMR office, the Vergers and, of
course, all our visitors.”
The Treefest Charity Partner for
2017 was Young Bristol, a Youthdriven
Charity that works to offer a
choice of opportunities for all young
people, believing that every young
person has the right to discover
what they are capable of. Treefest
was enhanced by the presence of
Young Bristol not only during Treefest
week but throughout the year with
Lee providing an active contribution
on our committee.
The net proceeds of donations from
Treefest are divided equally between
St Mary Redcliffe Church Outreach
and Young Bristol. The cheque for
Young Bristol amounted to £2,920.22
which, together with a direct donation
from GWR, gave a final total of
£3,170.22.
— IT’S TIME TO GET YOUR ENTRIES IN !
TREEFEST IS NOW A WELL ESTABLISHED EVENT on the church
calendar, raising money for charity through a celebration of the
many different groups and organizations which are active in the city
of Bristol. Last year the event attracted over four thousand visitors and we
raised over £5,000, which was shared between our chosen charity, Young
Bristol, and St Mary Redcliffe’s own outreach projects.
Our chosen charity this year is
Bridges for Communities, which
aims to connect people from
different cultures and faiths,
giving us the opportunity to build friendships and understand one another
better. The charity runs a range of programmes to achieve this, including
B.friend, which provides one-to-one support for refugees and asylum
seekers; peace feasts, which bring people together around food and conversation;
sharing festivals, such as Ramadan and Christmas; refugee social
events; cultural exchange trips; and cultural awareness training. Bridges for
Communities aims to build a more cohesive society where people are
