Uma luz no
fim do túnel
CRIAR
UM BANCO
DIFERENTE DO
SISTEMA
(ONG) ligada à Rede Mundial Women’s World Banking
especializadas no setor microfinanceiro, apoio e
captação de empréstimos.
Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Salvador
e Curitiba tinham filiais e Lages seria a próxima.
A light at the end of the tunnel - The breakthrough
was made at the Chamber of the Businesswomen,
from the idea of creating a bank that operated
differently from traditional banks, focused on small
businesses. It was an original initiative because
it was originated from an organized group of civil
society and not from public agencies. After several
studies and regional, state and national meetings,
the decision was to create an NGO in partnership
with the Women’s World Banking (WWB), at the
time headquartered in New York and with offices all
around the globe. Among other reasons for choosing
to partner with WWB was the possibility of having
an internationally connections, exchanges with
other continents, technical support from consulting
companies specialized in the microfinance sector,
and financial support for the extension of loans. Rio
de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Salvador
and Curitiba already counted on WWB branches and
Lages was to be the next city to have one. “I remember
that several representatives from the Chamber of the
Businesswomen and I were participating in a seminar
when we were introduced to representatives from the
WWB Uruguay, and they suggested we contacted the
WWB office in Rio de Janeiro”, explains Isabel Baggio,
at the time president of the Chamber of Commerce
and Industry of Lages (Acil).
