Conquistas
e desafios
Chegamos a marca dos 20 anos! O
caminho percorrido até aqui não
foi fácil, mas está marcado por
grandes vitórias. Dominamos um
mercado nunca vislumbrado no
Brasil e, com determinação, hoje
somos a instituição brasileira com
o melhor desempenho. Um
negócio social altamente
profissionalizado e comprometido
com a sustentabilidade.
Comemoramos muitas conquistas,
mas a maior vitória é a
prosperidade dos nossos clientes,
que financiaram ou reformaram
sua casa, ampliaram seu negócio,
compraram um equipamento novo
e transformaram uma boa ideia em
um pequeno negócio rentável. Não
é de hoje que a atividade
empreendedora é um dos pilares
da economia, pois gera riqueza e
impulsiona o desenvolvimento,
capaz de tirar milhares de pessoas
da pobreza.
Atuamos em regiões com baixos
índices de desenvolvimento
econômico e social e acolhemos os
que o sistema tradicional não
atende. Financiamos mais de 1000
casas populares para pessoas que
viviam em condições precárias de
habitação.
ISSO É
IMPACTO
SOCIAL E
LUCRO
PARA
TODOS!
O microcrédito favorece a inclusão
social e quanto mais simplificado o
processo, mais abrangente será
nossa atuação, meta que
estabelecemos para os próximos
20 anos: ultrapassar as barreiras e
aumentar a cobertura de
atendimento, mantendo sempre
nossos valores institucionais.
Só chegamos até aqui com a
contribuição de muitas pessoas que
de alguma forma tiveram
participação fundamental e
continuam sendo protagonistas
desta linda história. A todas elas o
nosso eterno agradecimento!
Nosso caminho continua, e por
mais desafiador que possa parecer,
cada objetivo conquistado mostra
como é essencial ousar e permitirse
ir além. Estamos abertos para os
próximos 20 anos e para o universo
de novas possibilidades que o
futuro reserva para todos nós.
Vamos adiante!
Achievements and big challenges -
We reached the mark of 20 years! Our
trajectory up to the present days wasn’t
easy, but it was full of victories. We
conquered a market that had never been
explored in Brazil, and with determination
today we are the best institution operating
in the microfinance sector, setting an
example of commitment based on a high
professional level. We are celebrating
numerous achievements, but the most
important victory for us is the prosperity of
our clients, who financed or improved their
houses, expanded their businesses, bough
new equipment and transformed a good
idea into a small and profitable enterprise.
It is not recent the knowledge that
entrepreneurial activities are one of the
pillars of the economy, as they generate
wealth and drive development, reducing
poverty. We operate in regions that have
low social economic development indexes
and serve segments of the population that
are generally excluded from the traditional
banking system. We financed more than
1000 low-income homes for people that
were living in poor housing conditions.
This represents a social impact that
created benefits for all! The microcredit
favors the social inclusion and the more
the process is simplified, the further we
will be able to expand our outreach, and
we have already set a goal to the next 20
years: overcome the hurdles and expand
our services coverage, always in line with
our institutional values. No matter how
challenging the situation may seem,
each objective achieved is a proof of how
important is to be bold and go beyond. We
are open to the next 2o years and to the
universe of new possibilities that the future
holds for us all. Let’s keep moving ahead!
Isabel Baggio, president.

UM
SONHO
REALIZADO
A dream come true

Uma história
de fomento aos
micronegócios
A DÉCADA
desaceleração no desenvolvimento. No
cenário local, a BR-282, de chão batido nos
trechos que se aproximavam de Lages,
talvez fosse o maior símbolo do que a cidade
foi durante estes anos. Mas a situação não se
resumia ao pó da estrada. Após uma clara
ressaca decorrente do fim do ciclo da
madeira, segmento que havia impulsionado
a economia regional nas décadas de 40, 50 e
60, o município vivia um período de inércia.
O panorama implicou na grande
periferização da cidade, em problemas
urbanos com a falta de moradia, o
desemprego, e a desigualdade social.
A history of fomenting and
supporting small enterprises -
The 80’s were for Lages a
period of economic downturn.
The city was a reflection of the
reality all around the country,
which seemed to fall behind due
to the high inflation, interest
rates that hampered investments
and a clear slowdown in
development. In the local
scenario, the highway BR-282 still
had dirt roads in the stretches
that connected to Lages, and that
was maybe the most emblematic
SÔNIA ALBUQUERQUE
ANDRADE
Primeira gerente do banco
Valeu a pena!
Pois tudo isto aconteceu, e me fez sentir muito
symbol of what the city was
during those years. But the
situation was far worse than the
bad conditions of the roads. After
the clear deceleration of the
economy cause by the end of the
timber cycle, a sector that had
been the flagship of the economy
during the 40s, 50s and 60s, the
city seemed to be going through
a period of economic inertia.
The scenario resulted in the lack
of housing, unemployment and
social inequality.
SÔNIA ALBUQUERQUE
ANDRADE First bank manager
- “The establishment in Lages
of an institution that worked
with microcredit in 1998 was
something almost unthinkable
and challenging, because even
in my case, and I had worked
at the Banco do Brasil for more
than 14 years, I couldn’t
understand how a loan of only
R$ 200,00 could make a
business grow and improve the
quality of life of the family
running that business. But it
was worth it! But look how far
the idea has gone! That makes
me feel very accomplished
because I bought into the idea
and did everything within my
reach to help create, establish
make Banco da Mulher grow,
which later changed its name
to Banco da Família”.
8
chegaram a mudar o cenário econômico.
prosperarem!
In the 90s the situation seemed to be improving
after the paving of the highway BR-282. Lages
was one of the fi rst municipalities to launch the
concept of rural tourism in Brazil. The fi rst tourism
establishments were having a very good start
and the activity soon spread to all the southern
region of Brazil. Despite the pioneering concept
of the idea, these tourism farms weren’t enough
to change economic scenario. In an initiative to
convince the population that the city was on the
way of development, several billboards were spread
all around the city with the slogan “Lages is going
to work”. The entire society was calling for more
progress and development. Entire families were
under stress due to the lack of opportunities, many
of them even at the risk of extreme poverty. The
only alternative they had left was to start working in
their own homes and sell their products in their own
neighborhoods, and that is how they were able to
make a living but always facing many diffi culties. At
that time, 98% of the companies of Lages were very
small, operating in the informality and most were
family businesses. It was urgent that actions were
taken to offer growth mechanisms. On the second
half of the 90s, and after observing the scenario
in the neighborhoods of Lages, the Department of
Economic Development and Regional Integration of
the city of Lages, in a partnership with Sebrae and
the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Lages,
started to think of alternatives for entrepreneurs
operating in the informal market. It was the beginning
of a revolutionary action that would give these
micro-entrepreneurs the chance to professionalize
their enterprises. It was also a chance for the poorest
segments of the population to prosper.
That project was named “Neighborhoods that
Work” (BQT) and was launched in May 1997 with
three initial stages: Identifi cation of people working
informally in their own homes, such as artisans,
O Projeto BQT recebeu
posteriormente premiações
nacionais e se confirmou na prática
um sucesso, alcançando índices
expressivos, tanto no atendimento
As pessoas
microempreendimentos.
manicures, seamstresses, mechanics, etc. and to that
a census was conducted in all city neighborhoods;
the next step was to offer professional training
courses; and the fi nal stage was the extension
of small loans for the purchases of machines,
equipment, working capital, renovations, among
other investments. The objective was to give them
free of costs the chance to gradually improve their
lives and qualify these workers and prepare them to
make, sell and manage their businesses. The stages
1 and 2 reached successful results. “The project
received later on national awards and the idea was
proven to be very effective, reaching expressive
results, both in the service to 800 micro-businesses,
and in the reduction of business mortality during
the two fi rsts years of operations, dropping to 6%,
while the national average was of 80%”, explains
the mayor of Lages at that time, Décio da Fonseca
Ribeiro. But there was one challenge to be
overcome. People had good ideas and were willing
to work hard to prosper, but they lacked the fi nancial
resources and the project didn’t have the money to
lend. “The business community was pressuring us
about the loans ans they were right to do so, we had
promised but we didn’t have the resources”, recalls
one of the consultants, Marcio Oliveira da Silva. A lot
was done to help these people the opportunity to
improve their lives. Simultaneously to the BQT, other
initiatives such as Acil Sectorial centers, Chamber of
the Businesswomen and Sebrae were working for the
development of Lages economy levered by these
micro-enterprises.
Uma luz no
fim do túnel
CRIAR
UM BANCO
DIFERENTE DO
SISTEMA
(ONG) ligada à Rede Mundial Women’s World Banking
especializadas no setor microfinanceiro, apoio e
captação de empréstimos.
Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Salvador
e Curitiba tinham filiais e Lages seria a próxima.
A light at the end of the tunnel - The breakthrough
was made at the Chamber of the Businesswomen,
from the idea of creating a bank that operated
differently from traditional banks, focused on small
businesses. It was an original initiative because
it was originated from an organized group of civil
society and not from public agencies. After several
studies and regional, state and national meetings,
the decision was to create an NGO in partnership
with the Women’s World Banking (WWB), at the
time headquartered in New York and with offices all
around the globe. Among other reasons for choosing
to partner with WWB was the possibility of having
an internationally connections, exchanges with
other continents, technical support from consulting
companies specialized in the microfinance sector,
and financial support for the extension of loans. Rio
de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Salvador
and Curitiba already counted on WWB branches and
Lages was to be the next city to have one. “I remember
that several representatives from the Chamber of the
Businesswomen and I were participating in a seminar
when we were introduced to representatives from the
WWB Uruguay, and they suggested we contacted the
WWB office in Rio de Janeiro”, explains Isabel Baggio,
at the time president of the Chamber of Commerce
and Industry of Lages (Acil).
“Banco da Família was created with purpose of granting
loans to small businesses, which are the primary source
of income for a great number of families. After
overcoming big challenges, the consolidation was only
possible thanks to the contribution and determination of
tomar forma e a felicidade contagiou a todos. O
projeto foi apresentado ao Banco Nacional de
Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES)
que considerou a iniciativa desafi adora e
inovadora.
O BNDES acreditou na brilhante ideia e
se comprometeu em aportar recursos, se a
iniciativa privada local aportasse também. A
A empolgação tomava conta!
Banco da Mulher in Lages started to become a
reality for wide-spread satisfaction of all. The project
was submitted to the Brazilian Development Bank
(BNDES) which considered the idea innovative and
challenging. BNDES believed in the idea and would
provide its fi nancial support, but only if the local private
sector committed to help fund the project. It seemed
to be a very easy task, as the new bank would help
thousands of people and bring many benefi ts to Lages
and to the entire region. Everybody was certain that
local business owners, industries, trade unions and
other entities would support the innovative bank. We
were also very motivated! Every day, Acil members
would visit companies to show them the project and
ask for their partnerships. “Entrepreneurial initiatives
are very important for the sustainable and economic
development of a country or region”. And Banco da
Família, through the provision of the microcredit in
the Southern region of Brazil, gave access to credit
to small businesses entrepreneurs, as well as follow
up support and guidance, helping them to reduce
the business risks, increase their income, and also
contributing to the creation of jobs and improving
their quality of life. Banco da Família has for 20 years
worked hard to consolidate this successful trajectory”,
says Carlos Eduardo de Liz, manager and advisor.
O empreendedorismo é
muito importante para o
desenvolvimento econômico
e sustentável de um país
ou região. O Banco da
Família através da oferta
de microcrédito na Região Sul
do Brasil abriu portas para
que os empreendedores de
pequenos negócios tivessem
apoio e acompanhamento,
ajudando-os a reduzir
riscos em seus negócios,
aumentando sua renda,
contribuindo na geração de
empregos e melhorando a
qualidade de vida. Banco
da Família há 20 anos
consolidando esta trajetória.
Muitos prometiam participar, mas os
meses foram passando e o dinheiro entrava
a conta-gotas, minguado! A incredulidade era
espantosa!
primeiras tratativas, apenas R$ 30 mil estavam
começavam a ameaçar o otimismo.
Mas, “a persistência é amiga da conquista”,
como disse Bill Gates. Convictos de que aquele
cenário mudaria, as lideranças intensificaram
o trabalho. O discurso precisava tocar o
coração! Meses se passaram e cerca de R$ 100
mil foram arrecadados, era o suficiente para
começar a operar.
autoridades regionais, estaduais e nacionais.
A oficialização aconteceu com a posse dos
conselhos Consultivo, Deliberativo, Fiscal e
diretoria.
15
microempresas.
Os resultados virão muito rápido porque
o Banco da Mulher está respaldado na
iniciativa privada e pública.
Isabel Baggio, que foi conduzida
à presidência da diretoria do
Banco da Mulher.
Many companies and other entities had
promised to help, but after some months
the contributions had been scarce, there
wasn’t enough money coming in. The
initial estimation was that the bank would
raise R$ 300 thousand from the private
sector and another R$ 300 thousand from
the city government, which had committed
to invest R$ 1,00 for each R$ 1,00 received
from the private sector. In July 15th 1998,
one year after these agreements, the bank
had only raised R$ 30 thousand, and had
visited approximately 40 businesses. The
work and efforts started to seem pointless,
raising uncertainties and many didn’t seem
to be as optimism as in the beginning. But,
“Persistence is a friend of conquest”, as
said by Bill Gates. we were convinced that
that scenario would chance and everybody
started to work harder. It was necessary
to fi nd an approach that would chance
people’s minds! After some months we
were able to raise R$ 100 thousand and
that amount was enough to start our
operations. Mayckon Michelotto was one
of the businessmen that believed in the
project and contributed with donations.
“We, of the Michelotto family, are proud
to have helped to create the bank, and
because we had the opportunity to
invest in an idea that foe many seemed
unfeasible. I believed in it from the start.
We all want to see things change for
better, and the initiative must fi rst come
from ourselves, and I also believe we
shouldn’t only wait and complain about
governments”.
And it was with a lot of enthusiasm
that Banco da Mulher de Lages opened
its doors in October 20th 1998, in a
big event held at Serrano Tênis Clube
with the presence of the business
community, regional, state and national
authorities. The institution was offi cially
registered after the elections of advisory,
deliberative, fi scal boards and the board
of directors.
“What we are doing is the beginning
of an idea that was only possible due to
the support of the business community,
and I am sure that we can count on them
now and in the future. Without them
we wouldn’t have reached so far, we
wouldn’t be here as a great alternative
for the promotion of small businesses.
The results will come very fast because
Banco da Mulher is supported by
both the private sector and the public
administration”, says Isabel Baggio,
conducted to the chairmanship of the
board of Women’s Bank.

ALIADO A UMA
DIRETORIA
e equipamentos.
A grande
como tudo o que é bom e faz bem
precisa ser copiado, o desejo era
que o Governo do Estado
reconhecesse e oficializasse esse
modelo como um agente de
fomento em Santa Catarina,
fortalecendo o trabalho já
desenvolvido e contribuindo para a
implantação em outras cidades.
(Hoje outras instituições operam
com o mesmo sistema, sendo o
único Estado do Brasil a ser 100%
atendido por uma instituição como
o BF). O trabalho por trás da
instituição na busca por mais
recursos não tinha terminado. Até
aquela data, havia cerca de R$ 200
mil como fundo próprio (R$ 120
mil de empresários e R$ 80 mil da
Prefeitura de Lages).
Foi quando a instituição recebeu
a maior prova de confiança. O
BNDES e o Badesc aportaram
juntos mais de R$ 1 milhão, em
solenidade realizada dia 8 de junho
de 1999.
O repasse representava o maior
prêmio para o empenho e a garra
daquele seleto grupo de pessoas
que preocupou-se com a condição
de vida precária das pessoas de
baixa renda.
Operationalization - With a staff
composed of consultants in the
neighborhoods that work together
with an active and volunteer board
of directors, Banco da Mulher was
opened on the Presidente Vargas
Avenue, in a space granted without
any costs by Sebrae and Badesc,
who also provided the necessary
furniture and equipment. The daily
operations represented the beginning
of a new reality. Any amount lent
- even as small as R$ 100,00 or R$
200,00 – brought the possibility
for a housewife to make bread to
sell and help to increase the family
income, for a seamstress to buy a
new sewing machine and for the
tire repair man to buy new tools..
The big number of people looking
for information and the extension
of small loans were clear signs of a
gradual transformation taking place
in Lages. In December 1998, 15 loans
had been granted, totaling R$ 25
thousand, a money that was already
being used by the clients. And as
everything that is good needs to be
passed on and copied, the hope was
that the state government would
acknowledge and officially adopt the
successful model as a fostering agent
in Santa Catarina, strengthening the
work that was being developed and
contributing to the implementation
of the model in other municipalities.
(Today there are already other
institutions using the same
methodology, and Santa Catarina is
the only state in Brazil to be 100%
covered by an institution such as the
BF. But the institution still needed
to find more supporter and raise
more money. Up to that date, it was
operating with R$ 200 thousand (R$
120 thousand donated by business
owners and R$ 80 thousand by the
City Hall of Lages). It was during that
period that the institution received
very good news. BNDES and Badesc
contributed with funds totaling more
than R$ 1 million, in a ceremony held
in June 8th 1999. The transference
of funds was the best proof of
recognition of the hard work and
determination of that small group of
people to help improving the quality
of life of low-income families.
EVANDA KWITKO. Consultant specialized in
microcredit - “There is still a widespread notion
that the microcredit means nothing more than
insignificant amounts of money, but the truth is
that for small entrepreneurs R$ 1.000 is a lot.
This is a social work, it doesn’t take sides in
politics. We need to see small entrepreneurs not
as a beneficiaries, but as a clients, because they
invest everything they have, they take the risks,
and it is our role to respect and support them
when they need. From the moment we believe
in people, respect their life history, that person
gets motivated to do his or her part.

Broadly expanding - After
almost three years of operations
and the solidification of its
name in Lages and in the
emprestado. Tinha uma carteira ativa que superava R$
1,5 milhão e cerca de 830 clientes ativos. Até ali havia
emprestado R$ 3,3 milhões, beneficiando mais de mil
diferentes clientes.
ESPALHOU E
ULTRAPASSOU AS
FRONTEIRAS
cidades. Atingia, nesta época também, uma de suas
maiores metas: operar com mil clientes ativos.
region, Banco da Mulher was
still growing fast, exceeding
month after month the number
of loans extended. It had an
active loans portfolio of over R$
1,5 million and approximately
830 active clients. Up to that
moment it had lent R$ 3,3
million for more the 1.000
different clients. The vocation
of the bank started to spread
through the neighborhoods of
the city and reach people that
had never imagined they could
escape from extreme poverty.
The mission soon spread
to other municipalities, and
branches were opened in
Correia Pinto, Otacílio Costa,
Curitibanos and São Joaquim.
The benefits brought to the
population were immense
and the speed of the growth
was extraordinary, setting an
example to many other cities.
Around that period it also
accomplished on of its first goal:
operate with 1.000 active clients.
Cresceu
impressionantes 200 vezes, tornando-se entidade
referência do microcrédito no Brasil e na América Latina.”
PAULO CESAR DA COSTA. Vice-Chairman of the Board of
Directors - “The aim was to offer the microcredit to those
entrepreneurs that had been excluded from the traditional
banking system and were waiting for the opportunity to
improve their families quality of life. During that period,
thanks to the commitment of the staff, managers and
directors, the partnerships with public and private sectors, but
above all owing to the harmony and synergy with the clients,
its most precious asset, the bank became a strong agent for
financial and social inclusion of while promoting
development. Today the institution is 200 times bigger than
when it was created and became a microcredit reference all
around Brazil and Latin America”.
21
22
diferente!
EM 2002, A
CONSULTORA
INTERNACIONAL
DO WWB- BANCO
MUNDIAL DA
MULHER, MIRTA
STEIDL ESTEVE
EM LAGES NO
MÊS DE
NOVEMBRO.
toda a diretoria, conselheiros e colaboradores. O Banco
Its positioning in the financial
market was also acknowledged,
as the bank wasn’t afraid to
take risks. Delinquency rates
were very low, attesting to the
reasons why microcredit was
the best solutions for those
turned down by traditional banks.
Compliments started to come
from everywhere, and how could
it be any different? In 2002, the
international consultant of WWB
– Women’s World Banking, Mista
Steidl, came to Lages in November.
In her periodic visit she was
impressed by the diligence of the
entire board of directors, advisors
and the staff. Banco da Mulher
performance was still remarkable,
maintaining an extraordinary
evolution above 100%. She was
also fascinated by the social
impact on the communities with
the 4 thousand jobs created or
maintained. During this period,
the institution was the only one
in Brazil to have a permanent
consulting services from the
international network.
23
empreendimentos. Em maio de 2002, a
MARCA DE
NA SERRA
CATARINENSE
havia sido atingida. De forma fácil e sem
burocracia, e mesmo em uma economia
acirrada, o microcrédito se tornou essencial
para a saúde financeira das comunidades mais
carentes, quebrou as barreiras da desigualdade
e proporcionou direitos antes nunca
reivindicados.
SUELI FELDHAUS
In only 43 months, the Banco da Mulher grew
in big steps and it was confirmed as the best
alternative for small enterprises. On may of
2002, the mark of R$ 5 million loans in the Serra
Catarinense was achieved. In a easy way and
without bureaucracy, with even a tight economy,
the microcredit became essential for the financial
health of poorer communities and broke barriers
of inequalities and provided rights never before
claimed.
SUELI FELDHAUS. Member of Administration Board - “The
Banco da Família is an institution that practice the good and
helping the clients to recognize it’s potential, financing
projects and valuing them.”

PODEM VIR DE
HOMENS E DE
MULHERES, O
IMPORTANTE É
QUE TODOS POR
IGUAL TENHAM
Antes a marca
parecia restritiva, mesmo já atendendo todos os
integrantes da família. E embora a mudança tenha
informais.
Banco da Mulher grew and constituted a Family
- Indistintamente, any person has the right to
endeavour. Good ideas can come from man and
woman, and the importance is that anyone has a
chance. With this philosophy, the Banco da Mulher
change it’s name para Banco da Família, on march
of 2003. Before the brand looked restricted, even
if attended every family member. And besides
the change had occurred on the name and the
logo, the committed of the institution with small
business remained. The news name already born
strong e with expressive numbers: On the 4 years
of operation, lent over R$ 8,5 millions, in more
than 5 thousand operations, helping to maintain
and generate at least, 6 thousand workstations
in small formal and informal companies. Others
innovations were being implemented over time,
approaching even more institutions of partners and
population. With the insertion of the brand on the
internet, also in 2003, the website made possible
more access to a series of informations, products
and services, that were before offered only with the
personal assistance. Also with more transparency
and visibility to the institucional actions, enable
consultations and even, loan simulations.
Uma história
de sucesso
nacional
No Brasil, uma das muitas
formas de exclusão social é a
dificuldade de acesso ao crédito,
negado a maior parte da
população pelas instituições
financeiras tradicionais, que de
certa forma exclui a população
mais carente. Quando não são os
excessos de exigências para
conceder um empréstimo, as
taxas de juros são muito elevadas.
Com essa lógica, os que mais
precisam ficam no esquecimento.
Felizmente essa realidade vem
mudando. Passados 20 anos da
inauguração, o Banco da Família
está cumprindo à risca sua
missão, a de promover a melhoria
da qualidade de vida, atuando em
microfinanças como agente de
transformação social.
As conquistas durante todos
esses anos são incalculáveis e as
avaliações de desempenho
realizadas por instituições
internacionais de rating
comprovaram essa excelência
mais de uma vez.
O Banco da Família cresceu e
apresentou aumento exponencial
nos números de clientes e
valores emprestados, ultrapassando todas as metas
estabelecidas. Hoje, ocupa a posição de
MELHOR
INSTITUIÇÃO
PRIVADA DE
MICROFINANÇAS
DO BRASIL
Rio Grande do Sul e Paraná.
A story of sucess national
- In Brazil, one of the many
ways of social exclusion,
is the difficulty of access
to credit, denied for most
part of the population by
the tradicionals financials
institutions, that somehow,
excludes the poorer
population. When the excess
os requirements are wide
to grant a loan, the interest
rates are very high. With this
logic, the ones that need
the most, are forgotten.
Fortunately, this reality is
changing. 20 years after
the inauguration, the Banco
da Família, is complying to
the letter it’s mission, to
promote the improvement
of the quality of life, acting
in microfinances as an agent
of social transformation. The
achievements during all these
years are incalculable and the
evaluations of performance
made by international
institutions of rating, prove
this excellence more than
once. Banco da Família grew
and showed exponencial
grown in numbers of
clientes and borrowed loans,
surpassing all the established
goals. Today, occupy the
position of the best institution
of microfinances of Brazil
and is one the bests in Latin
America. We can consider an
epic performance among all
soty and obstacles faced until
present days. Contributed to
the success the volunteering
of social leaderships, the
comprehension board of
directors and managers and
the professionalism of the
team. With the ampliation
of the credit lines, beyond
the constant search for
innovation. Reference to
the microfinance sector in
Brazil, the Banco da Família
consolidated even more. The
institution grew a lot in the
south region of the country.
It accepted the challenge of
expanding its actions and
overcome Serra Catarinense
borders. With the head office
in Lages, it has nowadays
21 units, that reach over 80
cities spread through the
states of Santa Catarina, Rio
Grande do Sul and Paraná.
DÉCADA DE 80 E 90
ECONOMIA INSTÁVEL. A região
sofria com baixo crescimento
econômico e social. Havia
problemas de gestão pública,
qualificação técnica e comercial
das pequenas e médias
empresas para as quais o
crédito era inacessível.
1997
PROJETO INOVADOR. Observando
este cenário, a Secretaria de
Desenvolvimento e Integração
Regional de Lages, com apoio do
Sebrae e da Acil criaram o projeto
Bairros que Trabalham (BQT), com
o objetivo de identificar os
microempreendedores, oferecer
capacitação e conceder crédito. O
projeto foi um sucesso nas duas
primeiras etapas mas não tinha
recurso para conceder o crédito.
1997
FOMENTO PARA O
DESENVOLVIMENTO. Paralelo a
isso, outras iniciativas buscavam o
impulso da economia lageana. Foi
quando, dentro da Câmara da
Mulher Empresária, da Acil, nasceu
a ideia de criar um banco. Não
podia ser igual aos comerciais,
teria que ser diferente do sistema
tradicional financeiro e com o foco
total nos pequenos negócios.
Depois de várias sondagens e
viagens para outros países como
Itália e Alemanha finalmente
decidiu-se pela implantação de
uma Organização Não
Governamental (ONG) ligada à
Rede Mundial Women’s World
Banking (WWB) – Banco Mundial
da Mulher.
empresas e as entidades
para apresentação e
captação de recursos.
PRIMEIROS RECURSOS
CAPTADOS.
pessoas?
Empreendedores, na sua maioria informais,
excluídos no mercado financeiro convencional,
empreendedores, consumidores, profissionais
e toda sociedade, que direta ou indiretamente
participam do fortalecimento desta sólida
engrenagem.
iniciativas frente a toda necessidade. Ciente e
perceptivo aos impactos causados, o Banco da
na responsabilidade social e comprometido
em multiplicar estas experiências, aplicando
the number of clients served, but
how can we measure the impact
that healthiness or the freedom
Entrepreneurs, mostly informal,
excluded in the conventional
financial market, had the force
of a driving force that leveraged
their business, supporting the
generation of jobs that add up
to 52% of the entire workforce in
Brazil and much more important
than that, strengthening income,
fostering family stability and
development. In this way, Banco
da Família reinvests 100% of the
wealth generated by its activities
in the community itself, forming
a chain of development, bringing
to this wheel: financiers, suppliers,
entrepreneurs, consumers,
professionals and all society, that
the strengthening of this solid gear.
Much has been done, however,
there is much to be done. Despite
the pride in being able to celebrate
Missão
do banco
Para quem sobrevive de uma atividade informal,
vencer as dificuldades diárias é um imenso desafio.
João é um brasileiro “sobrevivente”. Habita um
barraco humilde, sem acesso à água potável e
a instalações sanitárias. Construiu a pequena

PROMOVER A
MELHORIA DA
QUALIDADE DE
VIDA, ATUANDO EM
MICROFINANÇAS
COMO AGENTE DE
TRANSFORMAÇÃO
SOCIAL.
Missão Institucional
Bank’s mission - To promote the
improvement of the quality of life,
acting in microfinance as an agent of
social transformation.
For those who survive from an
informal activity, to overcome the
daily difficulties is an immense
challenge. João is a Brazilian
“survivor”. It lived in a humble shack,
without access to drinking water
and sanitary facilities. He built the
small dwelling on the outskirts of
the city, with what he found in his
raids through the streets, collecting
pieces of wood. The most consistent
plastic covering was a find - tied
tightly with a rope that surrounds
the entire shack, preventing water
from flooding its dwelling on days
of heavy rain. Waste picker, João
keeps a dream: to improve the place
where he lives, to have a little more
comfort, maybe to start a family.
He has been thinking more and
more about the subject, but when
thought comes, puts it aside because
life has already taught him that
dream is dream. It is a good thing
that he has health to go through
the surrounding neighborhoods,
where he collects what the residents
leave in front of their houses. João
does not even realize that with this
work he has contributed to avoiding
further damage to the planet. Still
does not know the extent of the
word sustainability, heard something
in the recycling cooperative, where
he delivers what he collects. Last
week took some time to do some
accounts: as it is economical, even
moderate, can save R$ 200 thousand
per month to pay a installment.
He has gained confidence and is
willing to ask for a loan to improve
his housing. Decided, he went to
the city center and looked for a
bank branch. After waiting in line
for hours, he felt bad for not being
dressed properly, comparing himself
to the other people who were there.
When he was finally taken care of,
the manager, in a hurry, handed over
a list of documents that João needed
to be able to compete for credit. At
that moment João felt once again
that he was on the margin of an
acceptable standard, felt that the
result of his work was not recognized
in this environment and that,
perhaps for this reason, he was not
worthy of the opportunity he sought.
46
Elemento
de inclusão
social
A origem do microcrédito data de 1970, no
país asiático Bangladesh. Desde então, milhões
de famílias no mundo reescreveram suas histórias.
Muhammad Yunus, professor de economia
da Universidade de Chittagong é considerado
o pai do microcrédito, sendo chamado por
muitos como o “Banqueiro dos Pobres”. Em
1976, constatou que ao redor da universidade
onde lecionava, as pessoas em situação de
extrema pobreza não tinham acesso ao crédito
nos bancos tradicionais para financiar suas
pequenas atividades produtivas, levando-as a
recorrer a agiotas. O professor começou a fazer
Grameen Bank, reconhecido internacionalmente.
Décadas mais tarde, saiu desta instituição
e fundou a Yunus Negócios Sociais, que atua
na missão de solucionar os problemas sociais.
Autossustentável financeiramente, a Yunus
Negócios Sociais não distribui dividendos.
No Brasil, o microcrédito começou de forma
embrionária e teve iniciativas do governo
federal e de ONGs. Surgiu pouco tempo depois
da experiência em Bangladesh e ganhou força
em 1990.
47
do Brasil.
Salvar
vidas
Brasil.
acesso à água tratada e a instalações sanitárias
completas.
civil.
Element of social inclusion - João’s
story is fictitious, but it could be that
of thousands of people living on the
margins of society. Thinking of people
like João, something revolutionary has
emerged in the world socioeconomic
panorama, the microcredit that has
been breaking the hard barriers
that still prevent millions of people
the right to life with dignity and
citizenship. A fundamental instrument
for social inclusion, it contributes to
the generation of work and income,
the elevation of self-esteem and
access to education and consumer
goods. The origin of microcredit dates
back to 1970, in the Asian country
of Bangladesh. Since then, millions
of families around the world have
rewritten their stories. Muhammad
Yunus, an economics professor at
Chittagong University, is considered
the father of microcredit, being called
by many as the “Banker of the Poor.”
In 1976, he found that around the
university where he taught, people
living in extreme poverty did not have
access to credit in traditional banks
to finance their small productive
activities, leading them to resort to
loan sharks. The teacher started
experimenting with his own money
and the students’ help lent $ 27 to a
group of 42 people, and he applied
a revolutionary system and proved
that the poor deserve credit. The
action thrived and in 1978 gave rise
to the internationally recognized
Grameen Bank. Decades later, he left
this institution and founded Yunus
Social Business, which works on the
mission of solving social problems.
Self-sustaining financially, Yunus
Social Business does not distribute
dividends. In Brazil, microcredit began
in an embryonic way, with initiatives
from the federal government and
NGOs. It emerged shortly after
the experience in Bangladesh and
gained strength in 1990. Microcredit
is currently granted in various forms
and presented in different designs,
but the It is important that the social
impact, although difficult to measure,
is admittedly positive. In this context,
the Banco da Famíla is born to
transform the reality of thousands of
people from the South of Brazil.
Save lifes - During its 20 years
of existence, Banco da Família has
encountered different situations
with which low-income people
live together, one in particular
has attracted the attention of the
institution and was responsible
for motivating the creation of a
pioneering project in Brazil. Today,
many families still suffer from the lack
of basic sanitation and treated water,
but this reality has been changing.
Banco da Família is the first partner in
Brazil of the NGO Water.org, founded
by actor Matt Damon and Gary White,
whose goal is to enable thousands
of families to access treated water
and complete sanitation facilities. The
project counts on the partnership
of companies that have pitched
the idea, such as Tigre Tubos
e Conexões, one of the largest
providers of solutions for the civil
construction sector.

Atendimento
sistema financeiro, promove a inclusão
social de homens e mulheres pela via
do empreendedorismo. Posiciona-se
diferentemente das demais formas de crédito
porque permite que microempreendedores
acessem financiamentos necessários
para melhorarem seus negócios e
consequentemente suas vidas.
É nítida e encorajadora a esperança que
emerge dos olhos destas pessoas quando o
Banco da Família informa, após avaliação, a
possibilidade de conceder um empréstimo
compatível com a sua renda. Mais que isso, é
emocionante contribuir para o crescimento do
negócio, proporcionar a reforma de uma casa
ou acabar com as condições insalubres de
moradia através do saneamento básico.
49
Humanized service - Increase the beauty salon,
accept more orders of cakes or buy a new sewing
machine. Any dream can become reality with
planning! An expressive slice of the population
demands small amounts, usually from R$ 500 to $
25 thousand to achieve its goals. Those who need
the most are those who have the least, receive an
extremely low salary and have no assets as collateral.
These workers are unfamiliar with such a complex
financial system. Banco da Família was created
precisely to serve these people. By offering small
loans, it contributes to the humbler people to carry
out their life projects, something unimaginable if
they depend only on the traditional banking system,
which work with a mechanized and bureaucratized
methodology, requiring unviable guarantees and high
interest rates. The sensitivity of understanding the
needs of others is what has made Banco da Família
run counter to this circuit for 20 years, benefiting
thousands of people with products developed and
adapted to the needs of customers, giving them a
new chance to progress. By focusing its efforts on
this segment of society that is excluded from the
financial system, it promotes the social inclusion
of men and women through entrepreneurship. It
positions itself differently from other forms of credit
because it allows microentrepreneurs to access
financing needed to improve their business and
consequently their lives. It is clear and encouraging
the hope that emerges from the eyes of these people
when the Banco da Família informs, after evaluation,
the possibility of granting a loan compatible with their
income. More than that, it is exciting to contribute to
the growth of the business, provide for the reform
of a house or end the unhealthy housing conditions
through basic sanitation.

Acompanhamento
51
A melhor do Brasil
do Brasil e ocupa o quarto lugar no cenário composto
por instituições de microfinanças da América Latina
e Caribe.
transparência e fortalecimento do setor microfinanceiro.
Assistance and Orientation -
Before providing the value requested
by the client, Banco da Família makes
a prior analysis. The credit agent visits
the home or the microbusiness to
learn the conditions of living, housing
and family income. He obtains this
information through conversation
and observation and this allows him
to identify the needs and evaluate the
customer’s possibility of payment to
lend the credit in a far measurement.
The values never pass the safety
margin of payment. The agent’s job,
with his expertise, is to explain the
risks of getting into debt by taking
out a loan that he cannot afford. The
responsibility of Banco da Família
on the conscious use of values is
what makes its performance unique
and stands out over the traditional
financial system. The orientation and
assistance methodology contributes
to a good business management and
in the identification of opportunities.
The impact caused in the life of these
people is priceless. There is no secret!
What exists is serious and exemplary
work, committed to the people and to
the change that Banco da Família can
offer by granting a trust credit.
The best in Brasil - Banco da
Família is the best microfinance
institution in Brasil, occupying the
fourth place in a scenario composed
by microfinance institutions in Latin
America and the Caribean. This is
proven by a company specialized in
evaluation of performance and risk,
MicroRate, sited in Washington (USA).
For many years the organization
performance has been tracked by
this company and the results are
reflexes of a compromised work
with the regional development.
Through these evaluations, Banco
da Família ensures objetivity and
quality in management, promoting
transparency and reinforcement in
the microfinancial sector.

ver, verdadeiros objetivos de vida! A singular
e duradoura experiência que vivo, desde a
concepção do Banco da Família, me levam a
ter convicção de que projetos ou mesmo
sonhos, - efetivamente planejados,
construídos com esforço, com capacidade e
sabedoria para rever e melhorar trajetórias
– resultam certamente na fórmula do
sucesso, principalmente quando o alvo é
colaborar com meritória parte da
humanidade. Parabéns e gratidão ao Banco
and durable experience that I have lived, since
the conception of Banco da Família, bring me
the conviction that projects or even dreams
– effectively planned, built with effort, with
Pautado na filosofia de aprimorar as
potencialidades da equipe de colaboradores,
engajando-os no desenvolvimento e inclusão
social e qualificando-os para o mercado de
microfinanças, o Banco da Família implantou
em 2014 um centro interno de capacitação
denominado Academia BF. A trilha de
treinamentos foi estruturada considerando
melhores práticas de microfinanças que
potencializam o poder de transformação
social nas comunidades. A organização
acredita no potencial de quem busca
aprimorar suas competências e investe
fortemente na qualificação de seus
funcionários.
Exemplo disto é a história profissional da
Diretora de Mercado Elaine Amaral
Fernandes que iniciou sua carreira na
instituição como operadora de Caixa e há 13
anos colabora para o crescimento e
desenvolvimento da instituição.

Minha trajetória evidencia
a importância dos
investimentos em capacitação
para o desenvolvimento
dos colaboradores e as
oportunidades de crescimento
ofertadas pela instituição,
a percepção sobre este
a alcançar outros níveis,
assumindo novos cargos e
responsabilidades, contribuindo
para a transformação social e
sustentabilidade do Banco
da Família,
afirma Elaine. Ao desenvolver a excelência
humana e profissional de seus funcionários,
o sucesso da Academia BF levou o Banco
da Família a receber o Prêmio Citi Melhores
Empreendimentos, em 2014.
Human and Professional excellence - Guided by the philosophy
of enhancing the potential of the employees team, engaging
them in social development and inclusion and qualifying them
for the microfinance market, Banco da Família established in
2014 an internal qualification center denominated Academia BF.
The training path was structured considering better microfinance
practices that enhance the power of social transformation
in communities. The organization believes in the potential of
those who search to upgrade their skills and invests heavily in
qualification for its employees. An example is the business history
of Market Director Elaine Amaral Fernandes, who started her
career at the institution as a cashier and for 13 years collaborates
in the increase and development of the institution.
“My path confirms the importance of investments in
qualification for the employee’s development and the
increasement opportunities offered by the institution, the
perception of this backing tied to the continuous learning,
capacity for adaptation to change and dedication, propelled me
to reach other levels, assuming new functions and responsibilities,
contributing to the social transformation and viability of Banco da
Família”, says Elaine.
In developing the human and professional excellence of its
employees, the success of BF Academy led Banco da Família to
receive the Citi Melhor Empreendimentos Award in 2014.

profissionais engajados na luta
contra a desigualdade social.
Eles são a energia que faz a
engrenagem funcionar e a
Together by the same cause - Banco da Família 20 years
energy that makes the gear function and the change happens,
they wear the shirt of the organization and embrace the cause
for the people in situation of vulnerability. Working at Banco
da Família is to be part of an environment that is inspiring,
consequently evolve in their career.
Nobre
A missão dela começou
“Me
acrescenta Karina.
UMA HISTÓRIA QUE MARCOU
A TRAJETÓRIA DE KARINA
55
documentos, roupas, sonhos e projetos.
Imagine perder tudo! A dona da casa nos
procurou com um pedido de socorro.
Atendemos aquela família com a linha BF
Casa e a gratidão deles conosco foi algo
que não consigo descrever em palavras. A
tristeza deu lugar a alegria de recomeçar. A
apenas a ponte.
Noble purpouse - From the group that compouse
the winning team of Banco da Família, the credit
agent has a noble job, since it requires a singular
social perception and sensitivity. The function held
by Karina Matos is an example that being a credit
agent is more than filling a role, it is a life task. Her
mission began in 2002 and since then has been
written in Guarujá neighborhood and adjacencies
in Lages. Come hell or high water, she is in front of
a house or a small business to speak with residents
and microentrepreneurs. The gratitude for providing
the enhancement in the quality of life is what made
Karina fall in love so much by this job. “I identify with
the stories and the dreams and I am very grateful to
be part of their day by day. We contribute to make
people happier, have a decent job and allow them to
have the pleasure of acquiring a personal good. Not
everything is in the numbers, it is necessary to see
beyond that! The people are who open the doors of
their houses and share with me their plans. There is
nothing more rewarding than helping them” adds
Karina.
A history that marked Karina trajectory - In June
2017, a heavy rain fell on Lages and the water
destroyed the house of a family and their neighbors
who lived near a stream, reaching two meters high,
destroying furniture, objects, documents, clothes,
dreams and plans. Imagine losing everything! The
owner of the house came to us crying for help. We
assisted that family with the BF Casa line and their
gratitude to us was something I cannot describe in
words. Sadness gave space to the joy of starting over.
The bank made possible the house purchase, but the
reconstruction was only possible with the strength
of their work, who went through that phase with
tenacity and determination. We were just the bridge.

Saúde financeira do
microempreendedor
É comum os pequenos empreendedores
enfrentarem difi culdades e assumirem dívidas,
resultando na perda de crédito. Gerenciar as
EDUCAÇÃO É A
57
Por meio de uma capacitação técnica, treina
empreendedores de baixa renda e auxilia a estruturarem
seus empreendimentos em suas comunidades,
contribuindo para aumentar o índice de empregabilidade
e geração de renda. Os cursos também visam o
desenvolvimento pessoal, o empoderamento e o
empreendedorismo.
O aplicativo fornece
The microenterpreuner fi nancial
healthy - Usually, small entrepreneurs
face diffi culties and take on debt,
resulting in the losing of credit. Managing
the fi nances of a microenterprise or a
house can become a frustrating task
if the person has a small control over
their income and spending, cash flow,
investment, and the overall economy.
Education is the key to change! In this
context, the Banco da Família promotes
free training lectures through the Financial
Education Program, to guide people
in managing their money responsibly,
consciously and effectively. The meetings
aim to clarify the importance of fi nancial
planning, especially regarding control
of the family budget, reduction of waste
and the importance of saving. Through
technical training, it trains low-income
entrepreneurs and helps them structure
their enterprises in their communities,
contributing to increase employability and
income generation. The courses also aim
at personal development, empowerment
and entrepreneurship. The lectures are
given by volunteers, collaborators and
advisers of the institution. From 2008
to August 2018, 235 lectures were held
impacting more than 35,848 people. This
is also an opportunity to distribute family
budget books are so the participants can
register all their fi nancial operations and,
in this way, monitor how they are using
their money. In addition to the meetings,
customers are provided with application
that has the fi nancial management
functionality, where they can enter the
revenues, expenses and the savings
reserves and follow this movement.
Resulting in a month-to-month overview
of the results by means of graphs and
Respirando
aliviada
sucesso. “Me davam muitas desculpas, mas
Fui ouvida, orientada e
voltei para casa muito feliz,
com um empréstimo de R$ 3
mil para realizar meu sonho.
Até o cachorro, que antes
dormia próximo ao esgoto,
hoje tem um cantinho
especial no terreno,
“Hoje posso
fazer minha comidinha com a janela da
cozinha aberta e meus netos podem
brincar fora da casa”.

Maria da Graça
Ventura, 64 anos,
São Joaquim (SC)
A relieved breath - The open
sewage streaming next to the
house was a big problem for Maria
da Graça, apart from the bad
smell, the lack of basic sanitation
brought serious health problems
for the whole family. The hope of
putting an end to this situation and
living better became more distant
each day, because she looked for
a loan in some bank agencies and
was unsuccessful. “They gave me
a lot of excuses, but they did not
authorize the credit,” she recalls.
Living only with retirement income,
a monthly minimum wage, and
sharing the house with four other
people - the daughter and the
grandchildren, she did not have
the money and the conditions to
acquire the necessary materials
for the sanitary facilities. She
renewed her hopes when, at the
beginning of 2018, she heard
on the local radio station an
advertisement from Banco da
Família and decided to pay a
visit to the agency. I was listened
to, guided and I returned home
very happy, with a loan of R$ 3
thousand reais to fulfill my dream.
Even the dog, who used to sleep
near the sewer, now has a special
little spot on the terrain, says
Maria da Graça, feeling emotional
when she remembers the day she
conquered the loan that changed
her family’s life. “Today I can make
my food with the kitchen window
open and my grandchildren can
play outside the house.”

Um salto
ousado
Ouvi no rádio que o Banco
da Família tinha crédito para
ajudar em situações como
essa e procurei as meninas,
Urubici é um município da Serra
Catarinense com grande potencial
turístico, que atrai visitantes de várias
regiões do Brasil e exterior. Nos últimos
anos, a procura por hospedagem em
pousadas aumentou consideravelmente e
setor agrícola e apostou no setor turístico,
abriram a Pousada Morro do Campestre e,
com a ajuda de amigos, cadastraram a
pousada no Booking.com, uma das
maiores empresas de e-commerce de
viagens do mundo. A procura foi grande! A
pousada tem apenas dois chalés, que
estão sempre ocupados - um acomoda
cinco pessoas e o outro, seis.
Com a demanda crescendo, o trabalho
aumentou.
As
crédito e a atendente. O crédito foi liberado
rapidamente e a máquina de lavar nova
comprada. Animados com a experiência
do crédito facilitado, planejam agora obter
novo empréstimo para construir mais dois
chalés, aumentando assim a renda do
A risky leap - Urubici is a city
located in Serra Catarinense with
great tourist potential, that attracts
visitors from various regions of Brazil
and abroad. In recent years, the
demand for hostel accommodation
has increased considerably and José
Eloi and Aldonei have identified a
business opportunity for the family.
About three years ago, the couple
migrated from the agricultural
sector and bet on the tourist sector,
opening an inn called Pousada Morro
do Campestre and, with the help of
friends, registered it at Booking.com,
one of the largest travel e-commerce
companies of the world. The demand
was great! The inn has only two
cottages, which are always occupied
- one accommodates five people
and the other, six. With the growing
of demand, work has increased. The
couple and their two daughters, 18
and 20 years old, take care of the inn
activities. They offer daily Breakfast
and lunch and dinner are available
on request. Bedding, table and bath
requires frequent exchanges, for
this reason the washing machine,
gradually, started showing signs
of weariness. “I heard on the radio
that Banco da Família had the credit
to help in situations like this so I
looked for the girls”, says Aldonei,
referring to the loan officer and the
attendant. The credit was quickly
released and a new washing machine
has been bought. Encouraged by the
easier credit experience, they now
plan to get a new loan to build two
more cottages, thus increasing the
income of the enterprise and further
improving the business and the
quality of life of the family.

presentes.
Adquiriu a Wine House poucos dias após
o filho falecer. “Um ato de sobrevivência”,
resume. Desde então, tem se dedicado
para fazer de seu empreendimento um
ambiente aconchegante para receber as
pessoas.
reformas: paredes receberam pintura nova,
a fachada foi melhorada e o espaço
ampliado.
As
meninas nos atendem com
muito carinho e o processo
não tem burocracia. Hoje eu
Our family bank - Even in a difficult phase, Marilene
did not let herself down and found the strength to
continue her life. With so many dreams ahead, she,
who lost her son about three years ago, relied on
her work to avoid getting depressed. She bought
a wine, souvenirs and gifts shop. She purchased
Wine House a few days after her son died. “An
act of survival,” she sums up. Since then, she has
been dedicated to making her business a warm
environment to welcome people. The store, over
the months underwent renovations: walls received
new painting, the facade was improved and the
space was expanded. For all the building, she had
the support and credit of Banco da Família. They are
truly the bank of our family. The girls serve us with
great affection and the process has no bureaucracy.
I only rely on them today. Her plan is to create
an environment where customers can ûndergo a
sensorial experience in the store: taste a gourmet
coffee, produced by them. An innovative idea that
will attract even more customers.

the support of Banco da Família,
her partner and financial advisor.
When necessary, she resorts to
the staff of credit officers to raise
funds for the purchase of knits,
working capital and even for the
needs of the home. With the last
credit, she managed to renovate
the bathroom and her next step
is to expand the sewing room
to optimize the resources and
increase production. Geni does
not think about stopping work too
soon, sewing is what keeps her
active. “It’s my passion, I will only
stop when God allows me.”

Sempre
a construir a casa própria.
moram, reformando a cozinha e o banheiro.

It is always possible - Salete and João form
a united couple! They are a beautiful family
with four children and, despite living a very
humble life, they were able to educate and
keep them with love and dignity through their
work. They had a dream of helping their eldest
son to build his own house. The difficulty came
from the low availability of resources, since
there was little left over from the income of
diarist and builder. The search for the credit
opportunity was not an option given the
impossibility of proving income from both
informal activities and the lack of connection
with the traditional financial market. It was
through a conversation with a loan agent
from Banco da Família that Salete and Joao
had access to the support they needed. They
felt embraced by the opportunity of realizing
their dreams. They received a credit to help
their son and from responsible analysis on
the payment capacity, they have taken the
right installment for their income conditions.
Happy and empowered by a transforming
force, they pay their loan strictly on time and
with the support of Banco da Família, they
are already planning to improve the house
where they live, renovating the kitchen and
bathroom. Today, Salete and João are part of a
development context and can achieve better
living conditions.

fortalecimento do negócio.
melhor as máquinas, aumentar a capacidade
that they could increase production
and needed financial support to buy
a machine. That is when they meet
Banco da Família, who extended its
hand and believed in the potential of
that entrepreneurial family, enabling
another important step towards
strengthening the business. The
activity was going well and they
sought growth, deciding to build a
could distribute the machines better,
important achievement, Itamara had
the support of Banco da Família and
with this advance contributed to the
occupied by women.

make a very important reform with this
support, building a wall of contention in
the back of the residence, since it had
a risk of collapsing because it is located
on Rio do Peixe’s edge and with this,
living more relaxed because she knows
that her safety and the safety of her
family is guaranteed. She is currently in
the eighth loan, which has allowed Dona
Maria to make small restorations and
thus make her home even cozier. She
takes care of all the details, the flowery
glasses in the windows, the kitchen ties
and the colors in the living room. It is
impossible to not be fascinated by such
love for her home.

Criatividade e
sustentabilidade
novamente retornou a Santa Cecília e decidiu retomar
reciclagem, sustentabilidade e preservação do
meio ambiente.
Criativity and sustentability -
His 21 years of experience as a
shoemaker/tarpauliner prepared
him to make very rich works with
canvas and other materials, what
would be discarded, in his hands
they become articles of the
highest quality and are marketed
in several municipalities of
Santa Catarina. However, the
road until here was not easy,
for personal reasons he left his
city and had to work in other
professions, but the passion for
sewing canvases was still latent
in his living. When life changed
again he returned to Santa Cecilia
and decided to return to his old
passion, this is when he set up,
with little recourse, a very simple
structure covered with canvas,
there the first products created
form, but on rainy days he could
not work. “It was raining harder
than outside, so I used to cover
the machines so they would not
spoil but I could not work,” says
Adenir. When he came to Banco
da Família he understood that
building the shed was essential
for the continuity of the business.
With the credit, he raised the
walls, covered it with tiles and
painted it with the color he
craves, now he wants to complete
the payments of the parcels and
is already programmed to make
the gate and build the floor,
because it is still made of barren
earth. In the new space he makes
hats, backpacks, truck tarpaulins,
and other repairs. Lagartyxa
Lonas is the only one in the
region that manufactures articles
with canvas, a job of recycling,
sustainability and preservation of
the environment.

Os dias melhores
chegaram
Em uma casa danificada, com as paredes
de madeira, muitas frestas e pouca
estabilidade, moravam Zilda, a mãe
Sebastiana e a filha Fernanda. A moradia,
A esperança
dali o novo lar estava materializado.
morar no novo lar.
No interior, cada cômodo foi pensado para
oferecer conforto e alegria.
me ofereceu”.
Antes, nem sala eu
tinha, e hoje, estou
sentada neste sofá que
desejava comprar.
The better days have arrived - In a
damaged house, with wooden walls,
many cracks and little stability lived
Zilda, her mother Sebastiana and
her daughter Fernanda. The house,
without any security, was a source of
sadness for the family. The minimum
wage income was not enough for
a reform, even less to buy a new
home. The hope of better days came
when a friend of Zilda talked about
Banco da Família. When she was
discovering the products offered
by the institution, one in particular
caught the attention of Zilda: BF
Casa, an affordable financing for the
acquisition of popular homes. The
dream came true when she received
the visit of the credit agent who
advised and affirmed the possibility
of changing her life, the loan was
granted and from there the new
home was materialized. Nowadays,
the family lives in a new residence
with a living room, kitchen and
bedrooms. Her mother, who was
92 years old then, passed away two
years later, but had the pleasure of
living in the new home. Inside, each
room was designed to offer comfort
and joy. The house has pictures
hanging on the walls, the new shelf
is decorated, and Zilda can sleep in
a comfortable bed. “Before, I did not
have even a living room, and today
I’m sitting on this sofa that I wanted
to buy. I pray every day, thanking
God for the gift he has given me. “

Presente em
todos os
momentos
empreender continuou e Priscila e Eduardo
abriram uma auto-elétrica. As incertezas no
início eram grandes e a loja ainda não estava
concluída. O apoio do Banco da Família
mais uma vez foi fundamental. Com o novo
empréstimo o casal comprou o balcão de
atendimento, prateleiras, mercadorias e
fizeram a instalação elétrica. Agora sonham
em aumentar o estabelecimento, construir
uma cobertura, pintar as paredes e colocar
piso.

Present in every moment
- Banco da Família has been
accompanying the couple Eduardo
and Priscila for about two years.
The institution came into their lives
when Priscilla was selling lingerie
and bedclothes and needed the
credit to buy new goods, which was
the key for improving sales. Shortly
after, the news that Elson Bastos
Pereira’s father had throat cancer
took the family by surprise and
some private medical procedures
were necessary, that was when,
for the second time, the financial
support was primordial to help the
family in such a delicate moment,
through the BF Família line, the
continuity of treatment was
guaranteed and they were able to
overcome this difficult phase in
the families lives. After some time,
the will to undertake continued
and Priscilla and Eduardo opened
an auto-electric. There were many
uncertainties at the beginning and
the store was not yet complete.
The support of Banco da Família
was once again fundamental,
with the new loan, the couple
bought the service desk, shelves,
merchandise and did the electrical
installation. Now they dream of
increasing the establishment,
building a roof, painting the walls
and setting up the floor. There is
still a lot of work ahead and this
motivates the couple to walk with
determination, trusting Banco da
Família.

Inovação
e sucesso
lugares. Ela percorre a cidade e visita,
inclusive, os municípios vizinhos para levar
mais beleza e conforto às suas clientes. “O
futuro! E com apoio da instituição sabe que
pode realizá-los brevemente.
criar um espaço de beleza
que fosse até as pessoas, pois
com a agitação do dia a dia,
tudo o que é facilitado, é bemvindo.
O crédito concedido pelo Banco da Família,
fez o projeto virar realidade. A Kombi foi
adaptada e, com criatividade, o espaço
interno do veículo foi transformado em um
charmoso salão móvel de manicure e
pedicure. “O carro é um mimo, tem um
pequeno sofá, tapete cor-de-rosa e até um
frigobar para as clientes se sentirem ainda
mais especiais”. Curioso é que Jacqueline não
dirige. Seu pai, Valdenir Pereira, de 57 anos,
Innovation and success - A
young innovator is making a lot of
success with the Mobile Nail Studio
- a colorful Kombi that attracts
attention. The bold idea took a few
years to be matured and put into
practice. Jacqueline dreamed about
her own business, time passed
and she had the idea of creating
a beauty space that was up to the
people, because with the rushing
of everyday life, everything that is
eased is welcome. The credit granted
by Banco da Família, made the
project come true. The Kombi has
been adapted and, with creativity,
the internal space of the vehicle has
been transformed into a charming
mobile manicure and pedicure
salon. “The car is really cute, it has
a small couch, pink carpet and even
a fridge for customers to feel even
more special.” What is curious is
that Jacqueline does not drive. Her
father, Valdenir Pereira, 57, takes
the micro-entrepreneur everywhere.
She covers the city and even visits
surrounding cities to bring more
beauty and comfort to her clients.
“Success is contagious,” concludes
Jacqueline, who has even bolder
plans for the future! And with the
support of the institution you know
you can do it soon.

Nova fase,
vida nova
Anos depois constituiu família e montou a própria
empresa, a Estofaria Almeida.
New phase, new life - Who lived with the
microentrepreneur João, knew a history of
struggles, suffering and, finally, overcoming.
For many years, he was involved with drugs,
causing dramatic consequences in his life
and even making his weight go to 40kg. At
that time the doors of the job market were
closed, he had no more friends and the family
distanced itself. His mother was the only one
who believed in his recovery and insistently
tried to get him out of this situation by placing
his son in several rehabilitation clinics. One
day, he realized that he needed to stop. After a
year in Curitiba (PR), he moved to Curitibanos
and attended Casa de Recuperação Água da
Vida (Cravi), where he worked and improved
himself in the making of upholstered furniture.
Years later, he formed a family and set up
his own company, Estofaria Almeida. Banco
da Família believed in the entrepreneurial
potential of João Carlos and was part of this
new phase of life, the loans made possible
the construction of a space in front of the
house, the purchase of an automatic sewing
machine and a Beetle, which helped a lot the
activity to become a reference in the city. His
intention is to make a new loan to build a room
in the house, to set up tiles in the store and
to change his car for a bigger one, helping
in the transportation of materials and his
products. “Facing challenges with courage was
primordial in getting where I am today.”

Um
sonho
a mais,
não faz
mal
O maior investimento ela guarda no papel, é o
One more dream is not that bad -
On weekends, the small shop of the
microentrepreneur is the meeting
point of friends and families.
Treats like ice cream, churros, hot
chocolate, crepes are plentiful, and
the kids do not even know what
to eat. On sunny days, she installs
toys like a bouncer jumper and
ball pit. The fun rolls loose! Adults
can enjoy a delicious hot drink or
an espresso, accompanied by a
warm snack. In addition to sweet
and savory, she also sells natural
products. When she opened the
doors of the establishment, she only
sold products like flours, teas, grains,
spices, cereal bars, among others.
The range of products has expanded
and currently serves all types of
customers. Rosangela knows that
she can count on Banco da Família
for her needs, such as credit for
working capital and the purchase
of equipment, like the ice cream
machine. The largest investment
that she is still planning, is the dream
of opening a kids space, with cultural
and entertainment activities, cinema
room, library and leisure space.

the businessperson, popularly
known as João do Ônibus.
The affectionate nickname is
no coincidence, since he was
a bus driver for 10 years and
transported students to study
in Lages, but due to his wife’s
health problem, he decided to
work only with the cafeteria.
Seu João has been a client of
working with transportation.
At that time, with the support
of the institution, he bought
one of his buses, built the
and bought the furniture.
In addition, he obtained
credit to pay two surgeries,
he also used for working
to good results generated a
Felicidade
Lopes.
A felicidade
Happiness that is transmitted - In
a small, 20 square meters, wooden
house, deteriorated by time, lived
the Lopes family. Father, mother
and two children shared three
rooms: two bedrooms and a kitchen.
One day, in January 2017, Mother
Soleide heard on the radio the
announcement of Banco da família
talking about microcredit. One of
the products, BF Casa, caught her
attention. Full of hope she visited the
agency in Guarujá neighborhood.
Soleide was employed for only six
months and her husband worked
with recycling. This reality, in
addition to a great desire to improve
their living conditions, was enough
for the credit agent Karina realizing
the enormous transformative
potential of this family, who, after
receiving guidance on the use of
credit and being sensitized about
the social importance of staying
in a good relationship with the
institution, could in less than 15 days
have their new house built. Their
children, Thiago and Ismael, now 10
and 6 years old, were excited about
the new house. The happiness of the
family was spread to the people who
lived in that street, like the neighbor
Éder Felipe, who was inspired by the
history of Soleide and also decided
to improve his life - he approached
the agency of Banco da Família and
requested the BF Casa. In that same
month, his registration was approved
and the dream of his new house
became a reality. Still motivated by
the change that Banco da Família
brought to her life, Soleide took the
13th salary and painted the walls,
giving a new look to the home. Her
plan is to renovate and expand the
kitchen, as soon as possible.

Nestes cinco anos, Dione fez quatro
financiamentos.
clientes. É desta forma que consegue manter a
liquidez necessária para a saúde e crescimento
do seu pequeno negócio.
these, Dione counts with the support
of the institution for the exchange of
is how you can maintain the liquidity
necessary for the health and growth
of your small business. “Banco da
Sonhar,
pedreiro, ergueu as paredes, fez a instalação elétrica, o
encanamento, o reboco e a cerâmica.
A instituição acompanha o projeto do imóvel desde

Dreaming, planning e
execution - Sirlei grew up in a
predominantly male environment,
where she learned techniques
from the construction industry
accompanying her father in work.
In adulthood, she lived in a wooden
house, with about 20 square
meters, but the experience she
acquired in life motivated her to
replace it with a masonry house.
With minimal knowledge, but
enough to risk and energy to put
herself to work, helped by a mason,
she erected the walls, did the
electrical installation, the plumbing,
the plaster and the ceramic part.
Sirlei takes one step at a time, does
not want to get involved in debt,
since the monthly income is fruit
of the informal sale of firewood
and her crafts. The return is small,
but it was not an obstacle for
Banco to Família to find the right
way to attend her. First Sirlei was
heard about her dreams, that was
when the loan officer realized her
potential and how much she could
do to help in achieving Sirlei’s
goals. The institution has been
monitoring the project since it was
only on paper and has already
granted three loans to Sirlei,
who now lives in her new home.
Her determination, strength and
character are reasons of pride for
the Banco da Família, on these
pillars a mutual relationship of trust
and development has been built.

condições do trabalho.
Microcredit for the small business - Leaving
the position of employee and becoming an
individual microentrepreneur is the dream
of many people, such as Osiel. Graduated
from a basic mechanics course and tired of
working in a workshop where his effort was
not recognized, he decided to open his own
company. The change was not easy, but it
received a little help: Banco da Família credit.
He rented a terrain and built a shed with the
first loan of R $ 4,000. He needed to invest
more than R $ 10,000 in documentation to
meet all the requirements of public agencies.
Osiel did not have all this value and depended
on the licenses to serve his customers. Once
again, he enlisted the support of Banco
da Família. With the money in hand, he
regularized what he needed and gradually
the number of clients increased. He currently
repairs an average of 70 vehicles per month.
Osiel also managed to build a house. “I could
only do with the loan from Banco da Família,
they are my foundation for finances,” he says.
The projects do not stop and his next plan
is to reform the facade and finish the walls.
He also wants to buy a lift truck, car lift and
improve working conditions. Banco da Família
is proud of Osiel’s trajectory and continues
to provide the support and confidence for
this entrepreneur example to strengthen his
productive potential and achieve results for
better days.

Conquistando
o mundo
internacional. A Santíssima Catarina, genuinamente
microempreendedoras precisavam. A Santíssima
Eu
achei o máximo, decidi usar nas festas. Fez o maior
aumentaram a produção. Foram seis meses
trabalhando na informalidade, depois abriram uma
Microempresa Individual (MEI).
acompanhou. A marca Santíssima Catarina explodiu e
Conquering the world - In
less than 7 years, the company
that started inside a small shoe
store today makes international
success. Santíssima Catarina is
genuinely from Lages and has won
the attention of the public who
likes innovation, good taste and
sustainability. Banco da Família
was the financial base that the
microentrepreneurs needed.
Santíssima Catarina was born in
2012. “One day my mother took a
used espadrille and glued a sequin
over it. I found that amazing, and
decided to use it at parties. It
made the biggest success and all
my friends asked for a model like
that, “Says Brianna. They risked the
fabrication of some pieces and then
increased production. They spent
six months working on informality,
and then opened a Microempresa
Individual (MEI). They could no
longer give up, it was a path with no
return, and success followed. The
brand Santíssima Catarina exploded
and consolidated, so much that it
stopped in the European continent,
in Spain. In 2014, they moved to a
shed, where they produce more
than 50 models of footwear, among
espadrilles, boots, sneakers, mules,
slides and Franciscan sandals, as
well as bags, calendars, and others.
It is important to highlight that the
brand works with craft processes
and with the reuse of raw material,
always concerned with applying
social, environmental and collective
responsibility actions.

Banho só
no chuveiro
elétrico
O sorriso estampado
no rosto do casal João e
Neuza oculta dias de muita
dificuldade no passado.
Criaram os seis filhos em
uma casa sem banheiro
e chuveiro elétrico. O
banho era dentro da bacia
e enquanto as crianças
se ensaboavam, a mãe
esquentava a água no
fogão. “Passamos muito
trabalho. Eles eram
pequenos, tomavam banho
rápido, mas nós adultos era
mais complicado”, conta a
costureira Neuza.
A família morava em
uma casa de madeira e
como se não bastasse
ainda apresentava
mais problemas. O
maior deles eram os
estragos provocados por
alagamentos, situação que
ocorria com frequência
quando chovia.
Há pouco mais de 10
anos, a família conseguiu
melhorar de vida quando
recorreu ao Banco da
Família, que concedeu
crédito para a construção
do banheiro e a partir disto
para outras melhorias da
casa.
As lembranças do
passado ficaram apenas
na memória, e hoje, quem
visita o casal consegue ver
o novo banheiro da porta de
entrada. Símbolo de saúde
e dignidade, o mínimo
que pessoas honestas e
trabalhadoras merecem.
Para o Banco da Família,
ter o seu João e a dona
Neuza como clientes é
uma honra, são pessoas
como eles que estimulam
e inspiram a instituição a
buscar o aperfeiçoamento
e a excelência no
atendimento todos os dias.
Apesar da gratidão que
demonstram pelo voto de
confiança que receberam, o
agradecimento da instituição
será sempre maior.

Only bathing in an electric
shower - The smile on the face
of the couple hides days of great
difficulty in the past. They raised
six children in a house without a
bathroom and electric shower.
The bath was inside a basin and
while the children were soaping,
the mother would warm the water
on the stove. “We’ve spent a lot
of work. They were small, took a
quick shower, but for us adults it
were more complicated,”says the
seamstress Neuza. The family
lived in a wooden house, and if
that were not enough, they still
had more problems. The biggest
of them was the damage caused
by flooding, a situation that often
occurred when it rained. Just over
10 years ago, the family managed
to improve their lives when they
turned to Banco da Família, which
granted credit for the construction
of the bathroom and from other
improvements in the house. The
memories stayed in the past, and
today, those who visit the couple
can see the new bathroom at the
front door. A symbol of health and
dignity, the minimum that honest
and hardworking people deserve.
For Banco da Família, having João
and Dona Neuza as clients is
an honor, people like them who
stimulate and inspire the institution
to seek perfection and excellence
in service every day. Besides the
gratitude they show for the vote of
confidence they have received, the
appreciation of the institution will
always be greater.

Novos
passos,
um mesmo
rumo
atendimentos. “Só através da inovação nós
vamos crescer. É um novo desafio, talvez tão
grande quanto o inicial, mas com outro
desenho”, afirma a presidente do Conselho de
Administração, Isabel Baggio.
O advento das novas tecnologias ajuda os
microempreendedores a superar as barreiras
tradicionais como a burocracia, e facilita,
inclusive, o acesso ao crédito e informações
que são fundamentais para o desenvolvimento
do próprio negócio.
A INOVAÇÃO
FACILITA, TRAZ
AGILIDADE,

New steps, the same path - There
are still plenty of challenges to be faced,
and if the obstacles in the first 20 years
were the search for new resources
and the prospecting of customers, the
next ones will be accompanied by the
new technologies with the challenge
of making the best use of them, to
guarantee to the clients the agility in
the processes and the quality of care.
“Only through innovation we will grow.
It is a new challenge, perhaps as big as
the initial one, but with another pattern,”
says the chairperson of the Director’s
board, Isabel Baggio. The advent of new
technologies helps microentrepreneurs
to overcome traditional barriers such
as bureaucracy, and even facilitates
access to credit and information that is
fundamental to the development of the
business itself. The innovation facilitates,
brings agility, security and inclusion, as
well as eliminates costs and gains time
to invest in ways of adding value to
business. The growth of entrepreneurship
is directly linked to the pursuit of credit
and technologies enter as an ally in this
scenario.
At Banco da Família, credit agents use
tablets to improve service, to facilitate
travel through GPS, and to manage data
and information. Faced with this new
scenario, the BF has already constituted
working groups that study strategies to
overcome the future.
