Histories are reconstructed then deconstructed in magnificent textures and styles to celebrate<br />

and reflect on the narratives of lives on the fringes: from Italian exiles on a remote island in the<br />

1930s, to British farmers in the early 21st century, to families and spaces intimately shaped over<br />

years by HIV/AIDS. As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of NewFest, we look back on the past<br />

three decades and even further <strong>–</strong> not only to remember but also to discover.<br />

An inclusive and vibrant collection of short films from around the world, providing access and<br />

empowerment for LGBTQ+ youth to see themselves on screen while promoting media literacy<br />

and encouraging self-expression. This program of shorts ranges from comedy to dramas, and<br />

varies in topics that cut across the youth experience, including interpersonal relationships,<br />

bullying, family, gender, identity, self-care, and cultural divides.<br />

Open exclusively to all students and staff within The New York City Department of<br />

Education, this event will be a specially-curated film program of Youth Shorts at NewFest's<br />

30th Annual New York LGBTQ Film Festival.<br />
