Alleged serial burglar caught
Police to explore
if suspect is
connected to area
shootings

Local police believe they
found the man they have
been searching for in the
Malibu Canyon area.
Anthony Rauda, 42, was
arrested at 3:20 p.m. Oct.
10 on suspicion of various
Malibu-area burglaries, police
announced in an Oct.
10 press release.
Officials from Major
Crimes Personnel, the
Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s
Station, the LASD Aero
Bureau, and Malibu Search
and Rescue began their

search of the Malibu Canyon
area around 10 a.m.
Wednesday.
“After several hours, investigators
observed fresh
boot prints in the ground
leading up to a steep ravine
approximately a mile
from north of Mulholland
Highway and west of Las
Virgenes Road,” the release
states. “With the assistance
of air support, detectives
followed the boot prints
approximately 50 yards.
Shortly after, they heard
movement amongst the
brush, followed by observing
a male adult, wearing
black clothing, walking
quickly, who resembled the
suspect in the burglaries.”
The suspect, who police
contained to an area with
heavy brush, was armed
with a rifle, but police apprehended
him without incident.
“After a few tense moments
of communicating
with the suspect, he opted
to surrender,” police said.
“The rifle was recovered,
and the suspect was transported
to Lost Hills Sheriff’s
Station where he is being
booked for an active no
bail felony parole violation
warrant.”
Sheriff Jim McDonnell
said during an Oct. 10 press
conference that Rauda had
a criminal history that included
various weapons
violations and burglaries.
According to police,
Rauda is not directly wanted
for questioning in the
murder of Tristan Beaudette,
the 35-year-old man

their investigation to say
if Rauda had a role in the
string of seven shootings
which occurred between
November 2016 and June
2018 in and near Malibu
Creek State Park.
During the press conference,
McDonnell said
Rauda’s rifle would be used
in ballistics tests and other
scientific tests to determine
if there is a connection to
the shootings and/or Beaudette’s
murder. McDonnell
would not release the type
or caliber of the gun.
When asked by a reporter
if the suspect was the alleged
sniper, McDonnell

not showing Anthony
Rauda’s face so as not to
limit their investigation as
they explore what crimes
the suspect may have
committed.
