By Dr. Joseph Beeson
Dear Parents,
If you are like most of us around here, the phrase “I cannot believe the first quarter is over!” has been spoken
more than once. We here at school are excited about this next season - concerts, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and
class parties. However, as I think of that, I cannot help but think of the number of volunteers who help these
things happen. I want each of you to know you are appreciated.
If you would like to become a volunteer, please contact the Advancement Office at 330-877-2049, ext. 304. We
are always looking for more volunteers to help us at Lake Center Christian School.
By Mrs. Stock
Dear Families,
“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God” (Hebrews 13:16).
This week we had our first collection for our sponsored children. It was so good to see students give to those in
need. I am thankful for the impact that their giving will have and the ripple effect it will create in a country far
from ours. What an honor and a privilege it is to serve the Lord!
Just a few reminders;
• There is no school Thursday or Friday of this week.
• Please turn your Operation Christmas boxes in to Mrs. Stock (if you are bringing them to school).
• This is the last week to wear shorts to school until Spring.
• The fall concert for fifth and sixth grade is Tuesday, October 30 th in the Cafenasium.
Have an amazing week. Thank you for partnering with us!
In our high paced society there seems to be something scheduled every day of the week! This often hinders the
time families have to spend together. Research continues to show that eating dinner as a family is a major contributor
to children’s success and well being.
Studies have found that for young children, dinnertime conversation boosts vocabulary even more than being
read aloud to. The researchers counted the number of rare words – those not found on a list of 3,000 most
common words – that the families used during dinner conversation. Young kids learned 1,000 rare words at the
dinner table, compared to only 143 from parents reading storybooks aloud. Kids who have a large vocabulary
read earlier and more easily.
Older children also reap intellectual benefits from family dinners. For school-age youngsters, regular mealtime is
an even more powerful predictor of high achievement scores than time spent in school, doing homework, playing
sports or doing art.
Other researchers reported a consistent association between family dinner frequency and teen academic performance.
Adolescents who ate family meals five to seven times a week were twice as likely to get A’s in school as
those who ate dinner with their families fewer than two times a week.
